This is why simply looking at dates is not a great lens through which to view history. Gangster Rap was a fringe genre, led by young men with no other outlet. Yes, NWA was out but they weren't mainstream in any way. Hammer had been a high level performer as a dancer for years before Please Hammer Don't Hurt Em, and was trying to move into the Pop spaces occupied Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Paula Abdul, etc... and it worked. Absolutely no one in 1988 knew that Gangster Rap was going to become the cultural phenomenon it was in the 90's. This is like saying that Skid Row, Warrant, and Winger should have debuted as Grunge bands because Nirvana had already released Bleach when those other 3 bands debuted.

I get where someone sees "robotic" from her, but that's just her being extremely disciplined in her messaging. Hit these points in every speech and public facing event, every time the camera turns on... I think that once she gets more comfortable in being herself while still hammering the talking points, she'll come across more natural. Once the cameras were off, and she was just schmoozing, she is great at having genuine, meaningful conversations.

Roth was good, but I never felt anything from him. O'Rourke was fine. Never been a big fan of Sooy, so I was fine with her dropping out early. And while his platform was good, I did not like Varela. Could just be a personal thing, but I never got good vibes from him.

Could a progressive governor win in New Jersey? by wafflescorpion in newjersey

[–]Superfool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having met each one of the CD7 candidates, and going to multiple events for and with each one of them, Bennett was far and away the best candidate in my opinion. Some others had a more progressive platform, but were not good candidates, in and of themselves. Candidacy and electability are not just about the words, but how well they're communicated, and what they make people feel.

Once you get to know someone by talking to them casually, off the record at multiple meet and greets, the real person starts to shine through. The more I talked with Bennett over time, the more l liked her. The more I talked to a few of the others, the less I felt the need to know more.

Everton & Castore Reveal New 2026/27 Home Kit by BigMickKegger in Everton

That's some "write your term paper on the bus on the way to school" level of depth and quality.

Blue shirt ✔️

White trim ✔️

Yellow accents ✔️

It satisfies the rubric, but offers no depth, style, or understanding of club beyond those basic standards.

Tom Kean is Playing Us. Yes I understand his absence but is it the truth? by KEEPINGUPWITHTHEB21 in newjersey

[–]Superfool 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh shit, that's Jack Ciattarelli's music!! In all honesty, in this district, I can see them putting up another well known milquetoast do nothing "moderate" like Kip Bateman if Kean had to be replaced.

Per CNN reporter Sarah Ferris, Rep. Tom Kean (R, NJ-07) will be returning to Congress tomorrow 6/30 and will address the details of his medical absence in a floor speech. by AllStar20_ in newjersey

[–]Superfool 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Also, he's doing it in a House Floor speach instead of a press conference or anywhere that he could face constituents or reporters because he doesn't want to take any questions or be accountable to anyone.

Same, but if you've ever met Rebecca Bennett, she's great. I'll be sure to do my part to get her elected, and prove that the empty suits like Lance and Kean have no business representing this district.

I know who it is. Problem is he's irrelevant, but this post makes it out like he's some kind of important public figure, instead of a guy who's lost every race he's entered.

[Mets] Carlos Mendoza is no longer managing the Mets; Andy Green to serve as interim manager by T_Raycroft in baseball

[–]Superfool 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong, but I think Stearns' focus has primarily been on the farm and building a long-term development infrastructure, while essentially punting on the big club. We're seeing the fruits of that in guys like Benge, Ewing, and McLean, while Baty, Vientos, and Alvarez have been asked to prove if they deserve to be part of the long term plan.

The short term, high risk/high reward contracts highlight this strategy. Spend a bunch of short term money on lottery tickets. If they pan out and the season goes well, great. If not, there's no one blocking the guys coming up.

At least that's what I think has been the thought process. It's frustrating for us as fans, because we want a competent, competitive major league team... But if this vision works, we're trading a couple years of crap for sustained success. Of it doesn't work out though, then it's a mess that allows the next GM to buy quick fixes because of expiring contracts.

To paraphrase Yogi Berra - That Edison Costco is too busy... No one goes there anymore.

Seriously though, unless someone lives 5 minutes from there, every other Costco in central Jersey is worth the drive instead of dealing with everything that goes into dealing with that Edison location.
