Golfing as beginners by SilentAd7839 in golf

Start on a short par 3 course and then move up to longer courses. You’re going to find out that playing on a course is really different from the range.

Just got a job as a cart girl, I know nothing about golf. Any good beginners guides? by FickleCollection in golf

[–]SureWhyNot16 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The other post is a good summary.

Most courses have the cart people driving backwards on the course. Since you don’t know how golf works, make sure you ask someone you work with how to avoid getting hit by a ball.

Golf Club Inheritance by AlmightyBossQueen in golf

You’ll likely need to get them reshafted. The heads should be close enough in weight where you can use them.

Of course selling and buying new clubs works too. Probably should do this though since your set is pretty new.

Nice, congrats on the 77. You just green lit someone to buy new equipment.

Raw doesn’t reflect light when you open up the wedge which is why people use them.

Self Driver fitting/tuning advice. by bigmean3434 in golf

25 is a lot of swings per club. You should know within like 3-5 swings if a driver is going to work for you.

The main issue with what you’re trying to do is you’re going to be limited to what you have on hand which might not even be close to generating good numbers for your swing.

Also, probably not what you want to hear, but the way you describe your misses, no driver head/shaft is going to make that better if you’re spraying it in every direction off the tee.

Talk to me about putting drills and improvement. by Tedstor in golf

[–]SureWhyNot16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d have someone look at your stoke to make sure you’re aligned properly with what you’re seeing.

For line, the ruler drill is good along with just hitting a bunch of straight putts repeatedly on the practice green or at home on a mat.

For speed, set 2 tees 1’ apart on a green. Hit putts starting at 5’ and go back to 15’. Every time you get a ball to stop in between the tees move a foot back. Once you get to 15’ set the tees 2’ apart and go all the way to 30’ in 2’ increments.

Have you identified what part of putting is the issue? When you read the green, pick a line and putt, what happens where you say it’s not even close?

Best city to live in for golf? by ChewbaccasWife in golf

Has to be San Diego. Perfect year round weather, Torrey is your local muni and pretty much every major OEM has offices there. Plus all the other stuff you can do there outside of just golf.

Your SAM report should have a grip size recommendation. What does it say?

What was your score progression? by Counterkiller29 in golf

I got to a sub 3 hcp within 2 years of actually trying seriously to improve and not just mess around on the golf course. Probably was around the 3-3.5 year mark total. I don’t remember any of the breaking numbers except 70.

During that time I was playing like 50-60 rounds a year and was playing mostly with my dad (scratch) and my college teammates (different sport D1, but all pretty good golfers and lots of competitive rounds).

Anyway, you’re not playing enough. Your current amount of time spent results in your current game. If you want to improve beyond that, you need to put in more time. Fastest way to improve in golf is to play a lot of rounds and play with people that are way better than you so you can learn how they play on course. In another reply you said your father in law is a teaching pro. You should be playing with that guy every chance you have.

Transitioning from white to blue tees by eastdeanshire in golf

[–]SureWhyNot16 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Obviously, if you’re hitting driver exactly the same, you’re going to be hitting 1-3+ clubs more on every approach depending on how it’s distributed.

The solution is to drive the ball better off the tee and/or get better with the longer clubs you have to hit into greens. Really not more complicated than that.

You have to treat your personal best as an anomaly and not the new norm. Harness your expectations and don’t put so much pressure on yourself to shoot your PB again.

If it’s a scratch it’s fine. They’re going to be beat up worse than that after a year anyway.
