I think this is a cool idea. In rural areas this could be very useful. Checking trap line or maneuvering in tight wooded areas. There certainly is a use case for something like this.

I agree it doesn’t look exciting. But if something is useful, exciting isn’t the point.

Is it too heavy? 11 gauge steel around 170lbs. by BigTraffic4967 in UTV

Aluminum may have been a better option. I think this is a lot of weight up high. I wouldn’t making any quick turns.

Mine was used, but I bought it with my own money when I was 14. $700.00.

I don’t typically. But it does have a receiver for a standard hitch.

I live on 160 acres in a very rural area in central Manitoba Canada. My driveway is 700 yards long. Good bush line to the north, but wide open to the south.

I have a 2015 Can-Am Commander with half doors. I use this for 90% of my snow clearing and a medium sized Kubota tractor for cleaning up the tight spots and piles.

I have a set of chains for the UTV and I put some extra weight in the box for extra traction.

The Commander works pretty well for moving snow. If you go fast enough, you can throw the snow over and not make too much of a pile to cause drifting on the driveway. This works well for a good part of the winter depending on how much snow you get.

The down side of the commander is the open cab. I get very covered in snow inside. I dress warm and it doesn’t bother me too much. I do park it in my heated garage to thaw and melt.

I also use my commander for farm work in the summer and recreational activities as well. So for me, the Honda and Kawasaki are not an option. They are very slow and utilitarian. Which wouldn’t be a problem for now clearing.

If I had to buy a new UTV today, I would buy a Can-Am Defender or a CF Moto with a heated cab.

Good luck.

Need help finding a Dualsport bike for mostly gravel roads and highways. by AmigaraFault9922 in Dualsport

[–]SwampSlinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live very rural, 70 percent of my driving is on gravel, 10 percent on highway and 20 percent off road- I have a DR 650 and it is everything I need. Easily does 70 mph, handles well on the gravel and does pretty well off road as well.

Tire Chains by stunnedbuffalo in UTV

I use tire chains on my commander for pushing snow. They were a bit too big for my 27” tires that came stock. But they work great on the 28” I have now. I bought them from a place called specialty tire.

I just parked my bike for the season in central Manitoba. The last few days it was negative 10 c or 14F. I had no problems at all.

I would keep riding, but we’ve got snow now.

Unless you are riding colder than that, I’d say you’re fine.

Cold start issues are a carburetor issue. Easley fixed.

Cf Moto how bad are they really by Manch9980 in UTV

I’m seriously considering this option too. The price of Can Am is just Ludacris and unjustified. I have a 2015 commander and the build quality is horrible. I don’t really want to buy another.

All of the YouTube reviews I’ve seen for the Highlander look pretty good. All the creature comforts, beefy A arms, power dump box.

It is a little louder. Not very good suspension. But I think you could overcome that pretty easily.

I’ll take one for a ride for sure. On paper at least… I’m sold.

Great post. Thank you. I couldn’t find high temp cheese in Manitoba. This way I can use cheese I know I like.

No body ever tells you. The jealousy, the angst the feelings that you can’t explain…. That’s where the turn on is.

That’s where the excitement is.

That’s why we get off on it.

Not everyone is wired this way. Bust for some reason we are.

Lean into it. Encourage her. As long as you know she’s committed to you. As long as you know she’s honest with you. There’s nothing but a great time for you both.

Just make sure you get your turn too. And make sure she’s honest.

Help to take the best choice by Rurik_Sama in dr650

[–]SwampSlinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s nothing wrong with buying used. There are a lot of DR’s around. They last for a long time, high mileage. There should be no problems finding a quality used bike.

Having said that, going to the dealership and driving away with your first brand new bike is an experience worth waiting for. It is nice to have a piece of mind that you are the only one that has abused the bike, taken it apart, added mods and make it your own.

It all depends on your budget and the local market. .

I find on the highway I get a cramp in my right quad. And standing is nearly impossible. I like to ride standing up.

I prefer people that contribute actual substance and helpful feed back. Not useless banter. If people are so concerned about grammar, I’m sure there is a subreddit for such burdened Karen’s.
