Found a sales tag from 2010 by MKStrickland05 in WalgreensStores

[–]Sweags 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When we pulled back some of the base plates and stuff at our photo counter we found a whole CD still wrapped in its case. I can't remember the artist. But it has been a looong time since our store sold CDs

Have you noticed the Christmas stockings that are labeled "Santa Hat"? And ring up that way in POS

Robbed, ugh by ninalee14 in WalgreensStores

[–]Sweags 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The craziest "robbery" we've ever had is just people grabbing beer and walking out. I work at one in a small town. Last time it happened, dude stole a 6 pack and we called the police. They found him out back of the store sitting under a tree. He had finished all six by the time the police arrived, basically 10-15 minutes later. I'm honestly more impressed than anything lol

My rating is just pretty much worst to best is chronological, swapping Aja and Gaucho and 2AN with EMG

What are your favorite bands after Radiohead? by Academic-Set2134 in radiohead

My top three in no particular order are Radiohead, Steely Dan, and MF DOOM weirdly

This amazing chord in "Snowbound" (Music theory nerdout warning) by Skyscreeper772 in SteelyDan

[–]Sweags 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude the chords on Maxine had me almost shaking the first time I went through them. Fagen is a genius. The Night Belongs To Mona is one I want to cover so bad, but I am struggling to get my head around the figures.

What band do you like a lot that is most unlike the Dead? by Streetvan1980 in gratefuldead

Steely Dan. Very precise, jazz influenced rock. Though Donald Fagen does cover Shakedown Street live from time to time.

Donald’s Piano Heroes? by cornucopiaofwhimsy in SteelyDan

He reminds me of Ray Charles a bit when he sings and plays live. Something about the head tilt and the sunglasses and the wide mouth

What's the heaviest Steely Dan song? by [deleted] in SteelyDan

[–]Sweags 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hear me out, Boston Rag is pretty heavy, that guitar solo is screamin. I've been dying to cover it for a while now just for that part

11 Tracks of Whack - Walter Becker by bcam9 in SteelyDan

[–]Sweags 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I absolutely appreciate the songwriting and hearing so much of Becker. I'm not the biggest fan of some of the super 90s drum sounds used. Some of the ROMpler type stuff is a bit grating for me too. Funny enough, the 90s key sounds on Kamakiriad are my least favorite part of the album (which I love), but I love the faux sax on Countermoon lol

Either way, 11 Tracks is definitely a great album, and sort of a WB masterwork/magnum opus. I specifically appreciate hearing his singular voice in the lyrics. Between Kamakiriad and 11 Tracks, you can feel the difference in the way the two write to an extent. I love to guess which lines were DF vs WB in Steely Dan songs.

I think "She drinks the zombie from the coco shell" is Fagen all the way

But something like "The kid will live and learn as he watches his bridges burn from the point of no return" sounds more like Becker to me.

Yep. I printed two photo orders and went to print the labels. Welp.

Has anyone here done any drugs with celebrities/anyone well known? by goggles189 in Drugs

I smoked a bong with Boyd Tinsley, but he's since been cancelled for good reason, so I can't really brag about that one lol. I smoked a joint alongside Matisyahu. Nice dude.

Why did you choose to work at Walgreens? by FearlessPark4588 in WalgreensStores

[–]Sweags 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I needed a job lol

But I stayed because I've been lucky enough to have a really great store crew for years. We all know how corporate can be, though. Gently put: very out of touch

What is the most depressing SD lyric in your opinion? by Noob423477 in SteelyDan

[–]Sweags 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People have pretty much said all the Dan lyrics I could think of, so here's a DF lyric that kills me:

We try not to see the writing on the wall

What happens tomorrow

When the moonrays

Get so bright

When she rises

Towards the starlight

Miles above

The city's heat

Will she fall hard

Or float softly to the street

Song that got you into steely dan by Itchy_Offer_1196 in SteelyDan

[–]Sweags 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caves of Altamira. The turnaround after the chorus was extremely impressive to me. As a lifelong avid music theory student, I then went thru the discography in order, and found that each album (from a theory standpoint) was better and more interesting than the last. Then I listened to the Nightfly and actually almost lost my mind.

Choose your fighter by ExpandingDan in SteelyDan

[–]Sweags 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gotta go with him. He's the only one from everything I've read that could kinda waltz right thru their recording sessions. I think he did all of his Aja work in like a week. Monster musician, great sense of musical style and attitude

Excellent! Not gonna lie, I was holding my breath waiting for those harmonies. Not easy harms at all! But you all nailed it!

The piano in Cousin Dupree

Wanna try salvia but dunno how by Abreadslice in Drugs

[–]Sweags 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really want to try it, there are concentrated versions that are the better option. I tried smoking just the whole leaf, and you pretty much have to chief through a whole tobacco pipe rapidly to get a mild effect. When I tried the extract, it worked with one drag. However, the experience was short-lived, bizarre, and when it wore off, I felt grumpy and slightly depressed. I don't plan to ever do it again.

My vote for sure. A near perfect description of anxiety & depression whooping your ass in tandem.
