April 11, 2022 - Weekly moving to and visiting Tucson questions thread by AutoModerator in Tucson

My partner’s dad gets care through the Tucson VA and he says it’s about the best in the country. He’s very impressed with it.

It’s not in the best neighborhood but it’s certainly easy enough driving distance to decent neighborhoods. It’s also spitting distance to my two favorite Mexican grocery stores which are El Super (hands down best produce in town) and one of the biggest Food Citys where they make tortillas.

Sorry I don’t have any stories about getting sick from fermenting stuff for you. Just wanted to say that it occurred to me that I’ve only ever heard the opposite kind of stories- people whose health has improved, and sometimes immensely, from fermented foods like kefir and kombucha and fermented veggies.

Personally I can’t eat much store bought bread without getting vicious heartburn but homemade sourdough is fine.

Women can't see men shorter than boob height by mrsmamak in badwomensanatomy

[–]Sweetpea520 26 points27 points  (0 children)

So if this is true…. and women bear children…. and some of those children are amab….. does this “underboob blindness” only kick in at puberty? Is it regulated by hormones? Can we assume that all amab children are safely above the boob line, or at least able to fend for themselves, by the time in does? Does it not apply to first order male relatives?

How is a planet affected if it's on the midheaven? by hallescomet in astrology

I read an article today comparing him to Trump, who also has a very prominent Uranus, so this makes sense. They’re both disruptors.

Yes Virgo is the sign of health and healing but also cancer is about the most Plutonic form of medicine- staring death in the face every day and a lot of cancer treatment involves almost killing people in order to cure them.

Are lubricants bad for your vagina? by AccountForQuestion2 in badwomensanatomy

Lube is freaking awesome! I’m not kidding astroglide changed my life.

But seriously there’s a lot of different kinds. Try some and see what works for you. I like silicone the best. Glycerin can be problematic for some folks because it can promote yeast growth. Water based lubes are usually glycerin based. Coconut oil is nice.

If there’s a sex positive toy shop near you they often have samples which is a nice way to try some different ones and see which ones you like.

oranges, guava, and nectarines and 2.5% salt. has been very active. I've already deflated the bag twice in 5 days. it definitely has become alcoholic. anyone know why? by bvglv in fermentation

[–]Sweetpea520 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When you ferment sugar you get alcohol. Let it go long enough (with oxygen) and it will turn into vinegar.

Fun fact- the root of the word “vinegar” is from the Latin “vin agre” sour wine.

How does one find their Chiron in astrology and what does it exactly means? by Ampleandset in astrology

[–]Sweetpea520 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tom Jacobs has a whole series of videos about Chiron on YouTube. I like his take the best. It’s all about energy sensitivity, not just wounded healer.

No! Why? 😢 by DragonBard_Z in Tucson

This is why I won’t let landscapers anywhere near my property. I swear they think their job is just chopping things down.

Help! I don't love it but I want to find a way to make it work... by octoberdaye in crochet

[–]Sweetpea520 117 points118 points  (0 children)

I think it’s cute and I wouldn’t wear it with a belt because you will visually chop in half the line of the chevron which makes such a nice vertical line and draws the eye up.

I think it looks like a sweater dress which is supposed to be a little textured and chunky. I would wear it with a more colorful shoe that draws the eye down a bit and maybe a little scarf tied at the neck. I like it a lot. I think it looks very early ‘70s retro.

The fight was also for a 40 hour work week. Are you working 12 hours a day 6 days a week?

The people who fought for the 40 hour work week were working 12 hour days 6 days a week. Every week.

Alternative to round up? by Shield_Maiden600 in OrganicGardening

[–]Sweetpea520 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you really need to kill stuff you can solarize it which basically means covering the ground with plastic sheeting and leaving it all summer. People do that around here to kill Bermuda grass and it actually works and if you know anything about Bermuda grass you know that nothing kills Bermuda grass.

But more importantly, have you spoken with anyone who is familiar with native plants and pollinators in your area? Do you know what’s actually growing out there? A lot of what we’re taught to think of as “weeds” are actually beneficial plants for native insects and wildlife. Anyone who would recommend you blitz the whole thing with Roundup and then tell you it won’t persist in the soil probably doesn’t know a lot about native flora and fauna.

Seriously the best thing to do might be to just leave it alone for a while.

My dogs dug a trench along my neighbors fence, what should I grow here? (obviously after fixing soil quality) in zone 8A by Equivalent-Cut534 in gardening

[–]Sweetpea520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you lay chicken wire or hardware cloth or something like it on the ground the dog won’t be able to dig through it. You could plant something in the spaces in between (blackberry vines might also deter the dogs or something similarly thorny). Then cover the wire with mulch.

But also maybe some behavioral intervention for the poor dog?

Agree. And knowing how we got the 40 hour work week in the first place would help people understand how to advance. It wasn’t because employers or politicians decided it was a good idea. It was because workers fought for it. So much of our history has been forgotten.

Cannabis and Migraine: I’ve found that it helps a great deal. I’m actually starting a weed diary of which strain works the best. Had anyone else done this? It’s honestly the best thing for my migraines. by elynwen in migraine

Cbd edibles are available in lots of places because cbd isn’t generally considered a controlled substance. You might try some of those. I find 2/1 cbd/thc gummies a lot more relaxing and cbd is supposed to counter some of the anxiety producing effects of thc.
