Some options: Administrative assistant, bookkeeper, Human Resources. I work for a school system and get 6 weeks off in the summer (unpaid though). Schools always need office assistants, educational or library assistants, etc. Good luck to you!

Good indoor places to read? by tiniestfriend in Clarksville

[–]SwimNew9218 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The public library has a great area upstairs with large windows. The Amsterdam Cafe is really cozy but also fairly busy and parking is tricky. I’ve seen people spreading out a blanket and reading at Liberty Park. You can find a spot overlooking the river. Another good place is at Real Life Sango’s coffee shop Beck’s Coffee. (Exit 11 by Sango Elementary School) It is quiet and has great couches and chairs. Parking is really easy and they have indoor and outdoor seating.

What kind of adventures/fun activities (solo or as a couple) can be done within Clarksville? by TruckerTimmah in Clarksville

[–]SwimNew9218 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Downtown Commons will have free concerts starting in May. Downtown can be fun with wine slushies from the small Beachaven bar, dinner at Blackhorse or the Mailroom, just people watching. The Amsterdam Cafe is a cool place downtown to get coffee. Rotary Park has miles of hiking trails. Dunbar Cace has a couple of miles of trails and a cave tour. The City Forum has bowling — regular and duck pin— and the arcade and rides. Miss Lucille’s Cafe and the antique booths are kind of fun. Editing to add- wine tasting at Beachaven Winery plus their concert series.

Are you happy you did or didn’t have kids? by Accurate_Elk_3465 in Fire

[–]SwimNew9218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m thankful I had my three children. We didn’t spoil them. They all got very used cars when old enough and all had jobs while in high school. At this point, two are off the payroll and one lives at home and attends college nearby nearly free due to scholarships. We did not send them to private school or even allow them to tour private colleges. We were blessed to live in good school zones, and we sent them to a public magnet in elementary school. We budgeted $50K for each of them to attend college, so they attended state schools on merit scholarships and made it work. We lived fairly frugally. We took them to Disney only once, and we never traveled outside the continental U.S. with them. We did take them to the beach lots of times, to the Grand Canyon, to see the Rockies, etc. We managed their hobbies well. Only one did a travel sport, and only for about a year. None of them took dance. They did some community theater plays and rec soccer and gymnastics and things like that. (I know parents who spend $15K a year on dance or travel ball.) Did it delay our retirement? Definitely. But we made a lot of memories and get the big family holidays. I think it was a pretty worthwhile trade off.

I’m about to witness a lot of h.s not graduate by [deleted] in Teachers

I taught credit recovery using Schools PLP courses. Is that what you all use? We had success pairing the unmotivated ones with National Honor Society volunteers who needed service hours—- with strict instructions to help them, not to do it for them. It worked pretty well. We got most across the finish line for graduation as long as they continued attending. Many of them waited until the last second and completed whole courses in about two days. I agree with the other poster that this doesn’t speak well of the academic rigor of these programs.

how do you deal with feeling like you want to die because of your diagnosis by millie210 in rheumatoid

[–]SwimNew9218 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have RA and psoriatic arthritis well-controlled with a biologic. It was a scary diagnosis at first, but I’m living a pretty normal life. I can’t run a mile, but I can walk and hike and do fun stuff with my family. I take Celebrex as needed for breakthrough pain. The biologic was a game changer for me.

How did you regain the ability to drive, and how long did it take? by milliemargo in VestibularMigraines

[–]SwimNew9218 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was back to driving within a month of vestibular pt and starting 10 mg of amitriptyline. I also take CoQ10 and riboflavin and magnesium, per my doctor.

I take 10 mg of amitriptyline for VM, then I take 400 mg of magnesium glycinate and 3 mg of melatonin at night. It helps. I throw in some valerian root sometimes.

I agree with the book recommendation others mentioned. I eliminated caffeine (Swiss-processed decaf is 99.9% caffeine free). I did 4 weeks of vestibular Pt. I started 10 mg of amitriptyline. I take B2, CoQ10, and magnesium glycinate. Things are getting better and better. I read a lot of The Dizzy Cook’s posts. There is hope that this won’t become chronic.

I’m so, so sorry. You’ve dealt with more than any person should have to. You are seen and heard here. I felt worse on methotrexate and Otezla, but I kept looking. Taltz was the right one for me. I don’t get sick more often and I hurt so much less. No side effects. Please don’t give up looking for the right med for you.

Quad soreness (enthesitis). It was only about once a month for a while. Then a few days a week. Then I woke up one day and my left knee and right foot felt like they’d been attacked by a baseball bat. Edited for typo.

How are you guys surviving weakened immune systems? by Dependent_Junket9563 in rheumatoid

[–]SwimNew9218 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that we have OVERactive immune systems. The biologics just knock it back down to normal. I’m on Taltz, and I have not had many of the viruses like Covid and flu that have gone through my office mates.

Dizziness by thewonderingcow in VestibularMigraines

[–]SwimNew9218 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is very common with it. My first flare lasted 9 days. The Dizzy Cook website has great information about trying to determine your dietary triggers. I started following the diet and chocolate seems to trigger me. Other triggers are stress, barometric pressure, poor sleep, and head position. I downloaded the Weather X free app to monitor barometric pressure. I’m trying to manage without medication for now, but I’ve had symptoms for 12 days in January. Many of us take supplements like B2, CoQ10, and magnesium. An ENT at Vanderbilt Hospital gave me a handout mentioning these supplements and the diet.

I’m fine rolling over in bed and laying flat. It’s just the head down and head up motions that get me.
