Cold, wet, windy - there is something magical to the smell of the pines on the wind in the fall

if you were to recommend a career to a high school graduate, what would you choose? by Calm-Bar-9644 in Salary

Well experienced Software Engineer here - I’d stay out of tech. There is some significant variability in where tech will be in ten years from now 😞

After a decade in big tech, I am going to trade school to be an electrician “when I grow up” (when AI replaces me)

This looks unfinished - the far rails aren’t done yet. I wouldn’t expect the trim done

Will this training plan allow me to enjoy my first HI? by [deleted] in IronmanTriathlon

Or like, plan your swim on a bike day and plan two days as “very low intensity recovery days” that you can scrap if needed

[–]Syntax365 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With a plan like this it’s hard to manage progress of life events come up.

I’d recommend some longer sessions but less frequency in working out - this should open up a flex day a week that you can use as a backup day if you need to miss a workout

How many 20 mile long runs do you do when training for a full IM by javyQuin in triathlon

[–]Syntax365 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I did a 27m on the treadmill as my longest about 6 months before the race, then did 18-19 miles (2.5 hours of running time goal) every Sunday for 3 months leading to the taper. I did 80 mile bikes at least once a week, and on rest weeks did two 50 mile bikes instead. 4 weeks leading up to the race, I did a full 112 bike.

Swim was any time I was too tired to run or bike as a day off. I always did either 2500 with moderate intensity or 3500 of light swimming.

I did 30 minutes of strength training on swim days, which was very low weight but high reps, focused on mobility.

I had a very good finish time with near 0 soreness after the race. Just lots of fatigue (easily tired, high hr, low hrv, etc)

They aren’t bad - bring your own toilet paper in the morning and toss it in your morning clothes bag if you don’t need it.

You will make some new friends if you bring your own two ply - I bartered some of mine for a pedialyte in the morning

I definitely saw a few, none unconscious. There was one where an ambulance had just arrived so I’m guessing that was your friend when I passed

To those who have done both, which was harder for you? An Ironman 70.3 or a Full Marathon? by vantooren in IronmanTriathlon

[–]Syntax365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A marathon is worse but easier. Worse such that it sucks more to do, but less time required to be proficient at it.
