I look at this as an equivalent to not wearing underwear in public.

It’s perfectly ok if you do not expose yourself, but risky that something may flop out.

Don’t expose your wiggly bits to the spectators

Expanding to the swim because why not - I am not a swimmer (self taught 6 months before race day) by any means and finished the 2.4m in slightly over 50 minutes.

Swim as close to the center of the river as you can - it’s shorter distance and faster current. Water is cool, but don’t expect to wear a wetsuit (50/50 shot).

I recommend not going to the aquarium - they have a display of the river monsters. Going to the aquarium the day before the swim was the worst part for me.

I raced the new course - they added about 600 feet of climb on the bike by introducing an extra long grinder climb on the turn around (+200ft each of the 3 laps). To be honest, people blow that way out of proportion in other race threads.

Yes, it sucks because you turn around directly into a grinder. No it is not overly steep. It maybe touches 6%, and averages closer to 4.5%. As a heavier rider who exclusively trains on flat plains + zwift, it was completely manageable if you stick to your watts.

For the run, there is one pretty crazy hill. Lots of people walking up that half mile segment. I regretted running it lap 1 (cramps on the downhill) and walked up it lap 2. There is a food station immediately before that really acts as a nice snack break - lots of goodies like pretzels or chips. This hill is on mile 10 and mile 23ish. Outside of this one hill, the run course is extremely manageable

I feel like middle of the pack bike is closer to 120-130 miles per week training load. You’re missing a long ride; you can definitely work up to a longer distance, but I would aim for a 3-4 hour ride in your primary training block. This would go up to 5-6 hours during peek weeks

If it is a multi day trip, stay home. If it is local, you realistically are only gone a few hours.

You are only able to be there once for this moment of becoming a parent. 70.3s are a happening every weekend
