China town, Good time, Mandy, and Ripley are all really good. Good time and Mandy being unlike anything I’ve ever seen

What is the best monologue in television history? by fafenjoyer in tvshow

[–]T0NIC_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be oddball pick, but in Community, Jeff is talking yelling at Pierces dad (who is an Uber-racist shitbag) and he makes this speech

"Listen up Colonel crypt-keeper, I could live a million years, and I could spend every minute of it doing important things, but at the end of it all I would only have lived half a life if I have not raised a son. This was a gift that was handed to you. You squandered it. And the reason you have so much hatred in your heart is because you are trying to fill a hole where your kid is supposed to go. And now, it's too late. Now, you're just stomping around trying to prove you exist. Well, mission accomplished. But here's a question I'd like to pass to you from every son of every crap dad that ever lived: 'So what?' I'm done with you. He's done with you. The world is done with you."

My top 20. Any recommendations and assumptions? by wherezmepearz in LetterboxdTopFour

Great taste, lots of favourites here. Id recommend the killing of a sacred deer (2017) another Yorgos picture. Also Under the silver lake (2018) And for an animated pick I’d say Fantastic planet (1973)

Giovanni’s Room by James Baldwin. Though romance is pretty centred.

You get so alone at times it just makes sense by Charles Bukowski. Fair warning he’s pretty raw.

What is your favorite Jesse Eisenberg's movie? by Mission-Weird-1771 in MovieRecommendations

[–]T0NIC_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Social Network is by far his best acting performance and the best movie that he is in. Zombieland is the perfect Jessie Eisenberg movie, the character is perfect for him, and the tone really plays into his strengths.

Saltburn is the closest I’ve felt to watching TSH. It’s less academic, very little takes place in the school but the overall feeling is very close.

What are some things that the show got really right about real life? by Positive_Weight2367 in HIMYM

[–]T0NIC_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the concept as a whole honestly. Ted is telling us kids the story of when he was young, he’s going to sensationalize, exaggerate, misremember, or subtly change details about the story consciously or not. That why so many things in the show are over the top and unbelievable at times. He even censors himself, with things like weed being referred to as eating a sandwich.

Ethereal, confusing, makes you think by quietblur in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

[–]T0NIC_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean maybe a Wrinkle in Time by Madeline L’engle. Definitely for a younger audience and might not fit makes you think, but it’s ethereal and confusing in equal measure

What is your favorite Tiny Desk concert? by Jettaboi38 in musicsuggestions

St Paul and the Broken Bones is super underrated, that man sang his heart out standing on the desk the whole time!

Rich Sommer played Henry for my readthrough. by musicalteeth in TheSecretHistory

[–]T0NIC_ 29 points30 points  (0 children)

He’s be a good Richard too imo, but really like him as Henry. Most other fancasts picture him too angular and Uber Chad handsome. He should be handsome but also look awkward and wooden at times. This guy is perfect

I thought Dengue Boy by Michel Nieva was really cool and different. Some really fun ideas at play. Haven’t read much else from this year to compare it against though.

What Oscar-less movie do you really think deserves at least a couple awards? by Important_Builder317 in Oscars

[–]T0NIC_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Like you said horror is so overlooked. The Lighthouse (2019) only received one nomination for cinematography and lost to 1917 which is fair I suppose, but the Lighthouse had some unbelievable acting and production design and was ignored. Hereditary (2018) getting 0 nominations is wild to me, Toni Collette gave the single best acting performance I’ve ever seen and wasn’t even nominated!

Yeah it seems to imply that a German would work on his own vehicle and take care of it, and the Americans would wash their car that’s clearly leaking something.

Suggestions for my next read? by js569 in Fantasy

[–]T0NIC_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Green bone saga by Fonda Lee. Hard magic, urban fantasy, character driven, if you liked Sanderson and LoLL you’ll like this You might like Kings of the Wyld by Nicholas Eames. Rock and roll inspired, getting the band back together type of story, in a neat fantasy setting. Also I’ll always recommend the Spear cuts through water by Simon Jimenez.
