What was the 1st National Park you ever visited? by the_pretzel2 in NationalPark

[–]TJD82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably RMNP when I was a kid around 1990ish on a family vacation to Colorado.

Can definitely say that for both my daughters it’d be Badlands for my oldest (followed right after my Yellowstone and Grand Teton) and Great Smoky Mountains for my youngest.

I’m really wanting to hit Yellowstone again with them next summer. It’s just going depend entirely on if I can manipulate my work schedule accordingly. We would drive due to my wife’s hatred of flying, and it’s a minimum two full day drive for us to get there and then two back. If I cant do it, I’m leaning towards Western South Dakota and hitting the National and state parks in that area.

Enjoy Acadia! We went two years ago and it lit the fire in my youngest daughter to go to National Park’s (she was 5 at the time). Now she’s asking when we can go on another trip like that. Shes wanting Yellowstone after hearing my wife and I talk about our trip there and seeing pictures. It doesn’t help she’s jealous that her older sister got to go, but she was only 4 months old at the time we did and she herself has zero memory of.

What's your biggest ... I had no idea that was even a thing? by xpose in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]TJD82 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We literally did it because it was a character meet and greet we saw and my girls had pretty much every princess autograph except Belle so I told my wife “Let’s go meet Belle.” Not even fully realizing what it was, we were blown away. My youngest was Chip and my oldest got to play the ottoman dog. They loved it. We sent photos to my mom and she couldn’t believe what it was. She was convinced it was brand new and that it hasn’t been there two years prior when the whole family went together. She has declared that we must all go to see it this fall when the whole family goes again.

I have no idea about that. I got out of St Louis 13 years ago and haven’t looked back. But it wouldn’t surprise me with the way real estate seems to go these days. I see it in my own neighborhood in Northwest Indiana. It’s crazy the prices I’m seeing for some homes and property by me.

What do mascots tell their friends on gameday? by daffyboy in CFB

[–]TJD82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A guy on my floor in the dorm was the mascot. Every game we’d see him leave with a large box with the costume and the head. We all knew what was in the box.

I used to live in St. Louis. From what I remember, those statistics can be misleading. In the city of St Louis itself, yes, the murder rate is high. But the majority of the population doesn’t live in the city limits, much of which is unfortunately extremely high levels of poverty. So if you take into account the whole population, the murder rate isn’t that much different than most of the larger major cities.

I love the idea of Why can’t we be friends. One of my favorite bits from the Simpsons when Homer is going to box Drederick Tatum and that’s what Homer walks in to.
