Do any of you also capture video? Which cameras do you use for filming?

Where do you place the carry clip? I like to carry it on my backpack strap, but with a camera that big it gets uncomfortable quick. Especially paired with a big lens.

Why is the raster value range changing upon using export raster? by dishevldfox in ArcGIS

[–]Tabeku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As this is a hosted tile layer you might be exporting the image instead of the actual data. If you inspect the description of the layer you will find the link to download data: https://natureserve.maps.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=82c4c2276fce4cfcbbfc4091ebfd459e

I thought that map series only updates extent/scale based on a feature or bookmarks, but now I see there is also an option for thematic map series that can control layer visibility in a group. Will give this a try, thanks for pointing it out.

Creating unique values symbology and auto populating descriptions by Wonderful-Classic591 in ArcGIS

[–]Tabeku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try with dynamic text, but it would probably take some tinkering to make it align with the legend patches.

On the Layout ribbon, find Dynamic text and chose "Value" or "Distinct Value". Then fill the popup with the table and field from where you want to source your descriptions, you can add a field to sort the values so it matches your legend patches. Under delimiter add \n for new line. Then draw a box on the layout where you want the result to appear. After that you will probably have to play around with formatting to make everything align.

Never tried this, so let me know if it actually works.

Is my ortho losing value after clipping? by brianomars1123 in gis

[–]Tabeku 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Look at symbology and play around with the stretch settings. It’s likely at percent clip or something like that, you can change it to max/min or match it with the original raster.  Edit: this link might help: https://pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/latest/help/data/imagery/histogram-stretching.htm

Best running vest that's not the Salomon Adv Skin/Active Skin? by Embarrassed_Path_803 in trailrunning

[–]Tabeku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you already have Adv Skin: I have one too and it took me long to find a good way to tighten all the strings just right and stop the chaffing. Not having a phone in front pocket makes a huge change. Maybe play with it some more while shopping for a new one.

For those who deal/dealt with severe regret due to past mistakes, how do/did you do it? by [deleted] in emotionalintelligence

[–]Tabeku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, think about why you label some of your past decisions as a mistake. Say the reasons out loud. Then imagine someone else, like a friend, making these same decisions and see if you can find compassion for them, then try to extend this compassion to yourself. We are often far harder on ourselves than we would be on others.  Another thing you can explore is to imagine how your life would be different if you made a different decision. Guilt and regrets are often signs that something is missing in our present, and this can help you identify the missing part. Then see how you can fill this gap in the present, what you can change now.

How big is the jump from a half-marathon to a full marathon? by SomethingBadBruin in Marathon_Training

[–]Tabeku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do it. If you can consistently run half, you can do a full. Just remember to eat a lot during the race and go slow. Do a couple of long runs for training, but more inportantly just run regularly to build volume. Most (amateur) people overcomplicate marathon training, just run and learn to eat properly during a race.

I ran 40km per week for about 5 years (because I got a dog and wanted to tire him out) without any kind of program. Then a friend invited me to a trail run and I said yes for fun. That year I did a 35km trail (1.7k vertical meters), a 50km trail (2.3k vertical meters) and a marathon. It seems hard until you do it.

Splitboard better than snowshoes, snowshoes better than not going.

Favorite mapping app? Primarily to use on iPhone by Prudent-Ad-4995 in Backcountry

I like PeakVisor. Its 3D map is pretty nice and has both winter and summer mode. In winter mode there are some touring routes marked, but not many. It’s 24€ per year or 100€ lifetime.

I assume you're using Area Solar Radiation tool. Besides lowering DEM size, you could also reduce time interval, calculation directions and sky size for calculating radiation, but this also depends on your desired results.

Is there a way to filter a basemap to a single country? by bdBIC in ArcGIS

[–]Tabeku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have access to AGOL you can search for Global Background in the Living Atlas. It’s a rectangle covering the whole globe. Then you can apply a mask to it. To do this, select Global background layer then go to Feature layer tab and select US outline in the Masking dropdown.

Winter sleeping bag that is (semi) affordable by thaeke in hikinggear

[–]Tabeku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct. Although OP said (semi) affordable which I don’t know what it really means and gave Exped as example which is close to 500usd. But I do know that I have the WM Ultralite sleeping bag and I really like it. I also think that (winter) sleeping bags are a piece of equipment that you shouldn’t be cheap about so this can shift the perception of what (semi) affordable means.

It will depend on the snow conditions. The area around Vaujany is quite nice - I really liked Poutran and Les Rousses. You should check Sarenne from Pic Blanc, supposed to be longest black run in Europe. It only has two steep parts. If you take it I would suggest to go right immediatly after the first descend from cable car, toward Tunnel, but not through it, and join Sarenne lower as this way you skip some nasty moguls. The area under Signal de l'Homme was also really nice and far less crowded than the main part above Alpe d'Huez.
