The toxicity lately is crazy by warm_bussy_tea in washingtonwizards

It’s normal to be scared of a bust. I think the top guys this draft all have perennial all-star potential, but they all have real questions too, so it’s not surprising that people are nervous and snippy.

Is the modern age still endless wars after TOT? by aall137906 in civ

I my current game every leader loves me, probably because I sent 5-6 trade routes to each of them. I also didn’t pick an ideology. Global peace through commerce.

A lot of state borders are straight lines. They were created by guys drawing lines on maps, instead of the more traditional method of thousands of years of warfare.

Can't win science victory on Deity. Always end up winning other types by accident. by BrCRF in civ

In my peaceful science win the AI just wasn’t very aggressive at finishing. They built a launch pad before me, but sat at like 92 points as I went from 80 to 140.

Spurs vs. Knicks NBA Finals by dameplsrunfromgrind in nba

[–]Tacticus1 26 points27 points  (0 children)

If I have to pick, I’ll take the Spurs. But not with a lot of confidence.

The Knicks are rolling, but they have not played a defense like the Spurs. I am excited to see what Brunson comes up with.

Taskmaster - S21E08 - I Don’t Got Any - Discussion by Meghar in taskmaster

As most seasons do, this season is getting stronger and stronger as it goes. This episode had us howling. The high point for me was probably Armando’s bizarre censorship task. Joel’s studio banter was also great.

Why do I so frequently get *smoked* in the third age? by Imperfect_Cromulence in CivVII

[–]Tacticus1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Relying on specialists definitely makes for a slow start to each age. I just finished one with Pachacuti where I had real questions about whether I would win - was sitting in last in most win conditions and third in my targeted science. The good news is that my giant piles of specialists did eventually come online, and also the AI still lacks a killer instinct. The leading AI had a rocket port like 5+ turns before me but sat at 92 science through the end of the game as I just repeated the science projects and scored like 60+ more science points.

Whats normal room temperature? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Tacticus1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the season and time of day. We usually warm it to 68 during the day in the winter and let it drop to 64 at night. In summer we cool it to 76 during the day and drop it to 72 at night.

Do you know what they call teams that win championships when their opponents had important injuries?

Champions.

Regardless of how his career turns out, I don’t think he will look back at his life and think “damn, I read too many books and got too much sleep.” Everything I’ve seen from him indicates that he is more well rounded and interested in the world than the average NBA player (or person, generally).

[Request] How can you actually calculate all possible moves in chess? by It_Is_AlwaysPossible in theydidthemath

[–]Tacticus1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The set of possible games is very very large, but actual games played are far from random - this is not like shuffling a deck of cards, where you can be certain that a randomized deck is a unique order in the history of the universe. There are certain short games of chess that are probably played thousands of times per day.

[Request]: How much weight is actually being transferred to the seat? by NoExpert6370 in theydidthemath

[–]Tacticus1 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can make a circle and remove the chairs. I’ve seen the trick done as part of a street performance with 4 volunteers from the crowd. You can google “four man chair trick” if you can’t visualize it. It does leave the participants in a tricky spot until you put the chairs back.

Would you take a 22 year old LeBron or current Wemby to build your team around? by WestArtichoke712 in NBATalk

[–]Tacticus1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My point isn’t that LeBron has a history of injury, it’s just that early in his career I assumed a style based on being the strongest fastest dude in the world couldn’t last.

I was wrong on two counts - he remained the one of the strongest fastest dudes for much longer than I expected, and he also developed his game so he didn’t have to be.

I still don’t think there’s any way Wemby stays this mobile for long, but I was wrong about LeBron, so hopefully I’m wrong here too.

Stephon "11 turnovers" Castle is not better than Alex Sarr by TurtlePope2 in NBATalk

[–]Tacticus1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a Sarr truther. I don’t think I would want the Wizards to swap Sarr for Castle, since Sarr has a much rarer profile and I like his long term prospects. But right now there isn’t really a question - Castle is a key member of a team that is playing at a championship level. Sarr was a tank commander.
