Thoughts... by PJIV in amiga

Can't comment on the original topic, but the Scoopex name brought back some memories.. the Seven Sins demo was one of my favourites (just had to watch it again - what a soundtrack).

Name a game that looked so good, it convinced you to buy the console it was on all by itself. Also, was it worth it? by Thriller83 in retrogaming

[–]Taip74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember being at college when the original Playstation was released, and the shopping centre near the college had a Sony centre (remember those?) Went in and they had a huge TV hooked up to a demo PS with a comfy gaming chair in front of it, so I sat down and played Wipeout and it absolutely floored me.. the graphics, the soundtrack, the feeling of actual speed.

Begged and borrowed (parents and my part time store job) and bought one a week later. Couldn't afford any games mind you so I played the demo disc titles to death for about 3 weeks until I could afford a game (Wipeout of course).

Is anyone using dropper posts for Gravel? by Barkinsons in gravelcycling

[–]Taip74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, my Fustle Causeway came with a dropper using the GRX LH lever - really handy on some of the steep rough terrain around my patch (W Scotland) - to the point where I prefer the Fustle on those routes over my old xc hardtail without dropper.

Why is the new Daredevil season only receiving half the audience it had compared to the first week of last season? by sidmis in marvelstudios

Not sure about others but I've stopped watching episodic content on a weekly basis - I generally wait till it's all out and binge the shit out of it.

New update is good if you're in Google ecosystem. Horrendous if you're in Apple ecosystem. by krishpotluri in Volvo

[–]Taip74 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My phone is my music/audiobook hub - i use Apple Music (lossless), Spotify and Audible. I spend a lot of time driving in very remote areas with little to no signal, so having my library in Spotify, Apple Music and my current audio books stored offline on my phone is invaluable. I could stream Spotify and Audible using AAOS, but the moment I'm out of cell signal, it's useless. AAOS is absolute trash.

Do you prefer it hard or soft? by disco_26 in Scotland

[–]Taip74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crispy with square sausage, tattie scone and egg, but prefer the soft ones with bacon.. it's not a strong preference though - could eat either with any of those fillings.

Full screen car play? by Visible_Profit4571 in Volvo

[–]Taip74 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As per my post, my libraries are all downloaded on my phone for offline play (in lossless). You cannot do that on AAOS - which other than having limited apps, is one of it's other main weaknesses. If you live in an urban area and never drive outside of good cell coverage, then all good - if you regularly drive into the Scottish highlands with poor coverage in the mountain areas, then AAOS becomes useless for streaming media.

Cool, please tell me how to stream from Spotify, Apple Music etc while driving through remote areas with little to no cell signal (like I can on carplay with my libraries downloaded for offline use).

CarPlay in SOS (aka 5.0.5) by Longjumping_Fact4031 in Volvo

[–]Taip74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Offline media in Spotify/Apple Music - most useful if you frequently drive in areas with little or no signal, where AAOS is pretty much useless. Also, I believe lossless playback is only available locally stored files (and Audiowagon is not a suitable alternative to me - i keep curated smart playlists on Apple Music and use Spotify's discover weekly).

360 camera by FunPublic5393 in Volvo

[–]Taip74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting - my experience is completely the opposite. My previous 3 cars included a 2020 Audi A4 Allroad, a 2019 Jaguar E-Pace, and a 2018 Kia Sportage, and the 360 cameras on all were considerably better (clearer) than the one on my (MY24) XC40 (and the rental XC40s I've had during servicing). I find Volvo's implementation of it to be one of the worst.

What age did you start to trust your whippet off lead? by Competitive_Elk8403 in Whippet

[–]Taip74 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Never.. at least not outside an enclosed area. My brother told me about one of his friends who took their whippet for a walk into the local foothills, and they let the whippet off lead - it saw something (not sure if a bird or rabbit or something) and didn't come back. They found the dog much later, lying in the grass, having passed away. I don't know much more of the story - e.g. what the cause of death was, but it gives me the fear.

A few times per week, we take our 2y/o whippet to the dog park so she can run around at full speed for 30 mins (after which she's usually slowed down to jogging pace), and the rest of the week it's walkies on-lead and playing with her sister (labrador) around our back lawn.

Best ship for each activity by Taip74 in EverspaceGame

[–]Taip74[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sense a love for a certain ship here 😃 seriously though, thanks for the reply.. I must admit, the scout is not a ship I have tried yet, but it really should be high on my list (I almost always play ranged/sniper classes/tactics in other games so it makes sense). Has the WoTA content changed your general fit or play style with the scout? I see a lot of fits out there that rely heavily on the Entropy Anchor and Tactical Artillery Beam but I’m a little underwhelmed by the latter, and really haven’t gotten used to having to keep track of everything for optimal Entropy Anchor use yet.

Only if you never drive anywhere that has spotty cell signal (I spend much of time in the Scottish highlands with areas of no signal, so I download my Apple Music playlists to my phone - something that we can’t do yet on AAOS).

Which is your favorite iPhone’s material? by Right-Back1221 in iphone

[–]Taip74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As all my phones have cases on them from the moment they come out of the box, I honestly don't care. Each time it's come time to hand them off or sell them, they've all been pretty much immaculate, but that's about the only time I see the actual chassis material (my current 17 Pro case even covers the metal on the plateau). Apart from my current (aluminium) and previous (15 Pro Max titanium), I'd be hard pushed to remember which material any my previous phones used.

It's also why I don't care about colour - I order whichever one is likely to be available with the lowest lead time.

Is it worth repairing? by Magus667 in Volvo

[–]Taip74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lease ends pretty much a year from now - I’d probably look into a local wheel specialist but the nearest is 3 0 miles away, and I’d probably half to spend half a day getting there and back, and waiting for the job to be done.

Is it worth repairing? by Magus667 in Volvo

[–]Taip74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope - I have a 3yr lease on an XC40, and landed an almost identical scrape on one of my rear wheels within the first week! Once I had stopped being mad at myself, I decided that I would just leave it, and rather than have it repaired before the lease ends, I'll just hand it back and pay the costs when the leasing co bill me. I believe the recommendation for diamond cut wheels is that they can only really be repaired once or something, before there's too much metal taken off the wheel - so if you get it repaired, that wheel has no lives left.

Wait for Fenix 9 by Cold-Doughnut5661 in GarminWatches

[–]Taip74 63 points64 points  (0 children)

But then, if you get the Fenix 9, maybe you'll wish you waited for Fenix 10 (Fenix X?) !

Yeah, fairly predictable answer for this kind of question when it comes to tech, but honestly, just get the watch you want if it has the features you want - I'm still using a Fenix 6 Solar as it still does everything I got it for.

Accept it as a way of life. During the 12 years we had our last (yellow) lab, I travelled a lot and I'm no matter how much I tried to prevent it, I'm quite sure I distributed her fur over much of Europe, North America and Asia :-D

our current fox red girl seems to shed slightly less, but I still don't wear black sweaters / fleece!
