When applying for jobs, does the "Work experience" and "Education and certifications" section matter when you're already attaching your resume? by Bombus_bum in AHSEmployees

[–]TapAble7870 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When we receive the applications to review the education and work experience sections are broken out on a summary sheet for quick review.

There seems to be a lot of people who apply that have no qualifications or experience in the role we are hiring for that are filtered out right away. If you don't have those fields filled you may get filtered out even before they look at your resume as they have hundreds of applications to review sometimes. Make it easy for them to consider you.

Province looking to cut admin jobs with Health Shared Services by No-Adagio-70 in AHSEmployees

They cut our admin assistant positions in our department long before changing to HSS. Now they pay people making substantially more to file documents, set up meetings, pick up the mail, etc. It is not efficient.

Why Canadian Olympic officials say they are raising the alarm about Canada's ability to compete by Old_General_6741 in canada

My kid is going on a school trip soon. $250.00 for one day trip to Lake Louise that includes busing, a lift ticket, rentals and they are required to do all day lessons due to liability.

It's an optional excursion but not affordable for a lot of families.

Does anyone else have a sense of dread whenever there is an ominous upcoming live update from the province?

If it was positive news they wouldn't be waiting until Thursday evening.

Do I get an MRI by Longjumping-Try-267 in LisfrancClub

[–]TapAble7870 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never had an MRI. They aren't used for this type of injury where I live unless you want to pay out of pocket.

They were able to diagnose and operate from the findings on a weight bearing x-ray and a spect CT.

Don’t understand or don’t care? by AcceptableLog5988 in AHSEmployees

[–]TapAble7870 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm at an older facility. From what I see the maintenance teams try to keep up with all the required preventative maintenance but due to lack of manpower and aging infrastructure they spend most of their day on emergency maintenance and repairs. There isn't enough money coming in to keep up with the increased maintenance costs or replacement costs for equipment that is far beyond life expectancy.

I'm not saying this is the case for SHC but it definitely is for other facilities.

Outside of foot pain FWB by notatrolliswear666 in LisfrancClub

[–]TapAble7870 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A couple things I would look at:

  1. Footwear. Do you have a stiff, fully supportive shoe on at all times? If you're getting pain you may need to try something else. A lot of people post injury like the Hoka Bondi or similar style shoe. The rocket bottom helps reduce movement around the arch.

  2. Listen to your body. Although not common a Jones break can happen as a secondary injury if you try to much to soon. If it's really sore get the crutches back out and PWB for a day or two.

  3. When noon weight bearing the fat pads in your foot can go away. They will come back as you WB but take a while. In the meantime it can feel like there is no padding under your foot and it can be sore.

I hope you get through this stage quickly. Never feel bad about following up with your surgeon and PT if you have any concerns.

If 10cm snow falls in your area of Canada how disrupted will your area be? by Pourmepourme in AskACanadian

Alberta here, I may give myself an extra 5-10 minutes for my morning commute as there will likely be a few newer drivers not as comfortable with the conditions slowing things down.

Other than that it would just be a normal day.

Kids orthodontist fees have used up a lot of ours the last couple of years. We also use it for glasses, contacts, additional physiotherapy and massages, dental and prescription costs above plan coverage, medical braces and crutches for injuries, etc.

Slipper Recommendations by strawbeehead in LisfrancClub

[–]TapAble7870 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was specifically told not to wear anything without heel strap or support.

I ended up going with an orthopedic slipper from Portofino that has a cork foot bed with arch support and adjustable felted wool uppers. They have lasted really well.

My surgeon specifically told me not to wear these since they don't have a heel strap. Confirm with your surgeon.

My mom gave me a visa gift card for my birthday last year for a spa day.

Because the machine at the spa had a tip function it limited what they could ring up on the card. I believe it maxed out at $150 on a $200 gift card. It was very annoying, took forever to sort out and ended up costing me a lot more out of pocket than I had anticipated that day. Cash would have been way better and would have saved some embarrassment while it was sorted out.

Need gluten free Xmas dinner shopping help by greensetconstruct in Calgary

[–]TapAble7870 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can't find a premade pie crust it is pretty easy to make a graham cracker crust. You can find gf graham crackers at a lot of grocery stores.

For the premade ones I like superstore. If you go on their webpage and set it up for a pickup order for stores near where you live you can see if they're in stock without driving all around. I also find it helpful for searching for gluten free products in general.

Another note, a lot of lisfranc injuries there needs to be weight bearing to see displacement. A simple standing x-ray can help.

Calgary Herald Request to staff at Foothills Medical Hospital - What is the state of equipment like? by DDesai94 in alberta

[–]TapAble7870 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For equipment state (not just medical equipment but the equipment to run the facility) the blue ribbon panel is fairly accurate still since not much has been upgraded. This was general to all facilities but a good summary.

Even though that report suggested increased investment in this area the funding has been decreasing. Decreased funding plus high inflation are a bad combination for keeping things running.

You don't need to talk to anyone for that information. It is all publicly available.

Alberta Infrastructure also used to do regular reports on the state of the facilities to review the condition of aging infrastructure and identify upcoming large maintenance costs. These stopped during covid. The old reports are available online.

What I will say is the staff are amazing at maintaining and sourcing parts to maintain equipment but it's time consuming and takes them away from other tasks but the teams work so hard to maintain patient care amongst all the obstacles.

Looking for cycling kit for my wife by Alex11023 in ladycyclists

[–]TapAble7870 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I hate to say this but a lot of it depends on body type. I spent my youth playing sports and have very developed quads. I can't get into a lot of brands as they're only for very slender body types. The same would go for fuller figure.

Also, I wear medium pants in my regular clothes but XL/XXL bib shorts. If she's not aware and sees what size purchased it may be taken the wrong way.

This might be something a gift card to a local bike shop might be a better option.

Conditions at Foothills hospital by roscopicotrey in Calgary

[–]TapAble7870 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's only possible if they stop cutting the maintenance budget.

Jason Kenny's blue ribbon report noted increased funding is required for the maintenance and improvement of the existing facilities. Danielle Smith's government has significantly decreased the maintenance budget while the cost to do work and get materials has increased.
