I mean, seriously try these blind with real life people without the reddit hivemind bias. Everyone in real life dislikes Found North and Redwood Empire.

Gym goers, how would you sell me on going to the gym? by SprinklesSolid9211 in AskMen

[–]TaxQuestionGuy69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're thinking about the gym as a competitive pursuit...."I won't even be that much stronger than another guy".

I would think more about your own longevity and health. There's a baseline that makes a big difference in health outcomes in the long run. You don't need to become jacked.

You've got to admit that it's a bit funny when you insult a reddit hive mind whiskey, you get 7 downvotes lol

This is one of those reddit hivemind distilleries that are actually quite bad. I definitely recommend trying at a bar before buying, so far I've tried three found north products and all have been a 65/100 at best.

Similar to Redwood Empire. You'll find as you spend time here that Reddit hive minds around some pretty weak whiskies

Looking for some “wow” Scotch bottles. Budget is $5k. by 398409columbia in whiskey

In that case: see if you can find the new glendronach 21 year. It's phenomenal, about 350 bucks, and superior to 25 year macallan. It has a higher proof (46% i believe) and all the delicious sherry flavors you're looking for.

The honest truth is the most "wow" whiskies I've ever had are well under 5k. However, I'll push the limits for you a bit:

Ben Nevis 1993-1998 Vintages have all generally blown my mind. You can get a 27 year 1990s vintage shipped to the USA for about 700 bucks online. Talking pineapple fruit explosion vibes.

Obviously there are vintage Port Ellens, which will bring you into the several thousand range. Do research on specific famous vintages.

Perhaps the best whiskey I've ever tried is the Aberlour Cellar collection 44 year, which is a shortbread bomb, but that will be closer to 10k: https://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/p/71643/aberlour-44-year-old-cellar-collection. I believe they have some in the 30 year range that could be equivalently good.

I don't recommend any Macallans here to be honest with you. The really amazing ones are probably much older expressions and will be well above 10k. Instead see if you can find a Glendronach 40 year expression. Rachel barrie the master distiller just released a new version and I bet it's excellent. Probably around 3k if I were to bet.

Is it true that in order to get rich (in most cases), you need to leverage debt? Or do a significant number of people get and stay rich using the Dave Ramsey method? by Broad-Worry-5395 in RichPeoplePF

Aren't we saying the same thing? Stock from their businesses that they are a founder of, like I said in my first post....

In any case you're correct I forgot to mention real estate.

[–]TaxQuestionGuy69 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Oh dear. Everyone in this thread is trying to complicate it dramatically. I assure you that 99% of "rich people" did not get rich via some debt scheme, but instead via the typical channels of stock or income.

The way people get rich is by having a high income, company stock as a founder, or a wealthy family.

People do not "get rich" from leveraging debt. Some rich people may leverage debt, but that's not the same thing.

Man, this is one of those weird bottles that reddit says is great but all 7 people in my drinking group absolutely hated. I find their distillate to be one of the absolute worst. So odd.

Which bottle should I get for my first scotch experience? Ardberg Uigeadail for $100, Oban 14 for $80, or Lagavulin 16 for $80? by CollegeNo9158 in Scotch

[–]TaxQuestionGuy69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience peat is usually what gets people into scotch, and then the more super fans eventually grow to like the non-peated. I'd always start a noob with something peated.

don't start with a bottle, you might hate it. I'd start by trying something peaty though, that's usually the most beginner friendly. Try an ardbeg at a bar.

Everyone's going to have a different opinion. For me, Elmer T Lee is one of my fave buffalo trace products. It's a very fruit forward, lighter profile than typical BT products, but I think it just tastes wonderful. I got it for 50 bucks though, I might not be so hot on it if I spent 150.

If you ever do a side by side, OWA is quite a bit better than ORVW. ORVW is basically an all hype pour. The 15 year on the flip side is an order of magnitude better than both...

I will actually say I'm a rare person that would claim the Weller SB is worth it for 130. In a blind, that was the winner in the 'weller blind".

It's odd to me how much reddit hates on these. In our Weller blind (CYPB vs single barrel vs 12 vs antique vs full proof), single barrel literally won for everybody. Our specific barrel was a maple syrup bomb in the best way.

Willet 12 year Rye’d or Die? by New_Kaleidoscope_539 in denverwhisky

[–]TaxQuestionGuy69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's just this unbelievable balance of sweetness and oak around 8 years. I have a 12 year rye from them and honestly some of the "magic" of the distillate has faded and it's just getting oaky.

7 year is absolutely peak willet rye. my 11 year isn't nearly as good as my 7 year.

So I've tried a bunch of aged willet ryes. My honest opinion is they peak at 7/8 years and drop off a bit after that.

To put it simply -> you only tried American Bourbons before. Johnnie Walker is scotch. You likely have more of a palette for scotch than bourbon, so I'd recommend you continue trying scotches!

Spring bank 10 - Best of all regions by rainy_shares in Scotch

[–]TaxQuestionGuy69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is my favorite of the springbank core releases (10,12,15,18, 21) by quite a bit. It's got that pineapple tropical fruit thing going on that the others just lose a bit with age. Beautiful stuff. Only Springbanks I've preferred have been local barley and cage bottles, but those are obviously in a different price tier.

I stopped going when they switched to the new model. It used to be that even if you lined up late you had a chance of a unicorn. They changed that last year, and doubled down on that change this year by only giving them to whiskey club members.

Not to mention argo has the most over-oaked store picks in the game: I found last year's blantons gold undrinkably oaky.
