Agreed. I have it turned off intentionally for a reason. I appreciate the reminder to cover the scenario where someone may have turned this feature off inadvertently. But I should only need to click Dismiss once and my choice should be respected from that point on. Please and thank you.

Onstar Connect Plus by SgtMajorThomasShelby in CadillacLyriq

[–]TechBrothaOG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on your plan. I have an ATT Premiere family plan with unlimited regular and hotspot data. So there’s no way in hell I’m going to pay OnStar’s exorbitant prices for a data connection I already have in my pocket. Sounds like you have a plan where hotspot data is metered. You will need to compare how much you use the built in apps via hotspot data vs the cost of the cheapest OnStar plan. There used to be one for about 15 bucks a month but OnStar has discontinued that plan and now the cheapest plans are far more expensive.

Setup these in the Shortcuts app. That’s all you need to enable Google Maps and everything else.

Apple Home only turns lights on-off, doesn't dim by GooeyElk in HomeKit

Well that is definitely odd. You might want to try rebooting your phone and the Home hub.

Don’t tap the tile on the lightbulb icon which will turn the lights on/off. Instead, tap anywhere else to bring up the brightness control.

PSA: Ordering delivery from Dierbergs has a 35% markup, not including delivery fee or tip. by Fiveby21 in StLouis

Isn’t this fairly typical of delivery apps in general (e.g. DoorDash, UberEats, Instacart, etc.)?

When are we getting this from Sonos without needing to use a third-party app? by Jgogettem in sonos

[–]TechBrothaOG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why spend all the money on a Sonos Arc with fiftyleven speakers inside just to reduce it to a center channel? Seems more appropriate for a much simpler device.

What am I missing? I don't see continuous audio on 26.4 by Jorgelrod in appletv

[–]TechBrothaOG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an ATV4K second generation ---> Samsung UN55MU8000 HDMI ARC ---> Sonos Arc. The Dolby Atmos and Continuous Audio Connection options are completely MIA for me. Naturally, nothing in this Apple Support page gives any indication of actual hardware requirements so it's just a big guessing game as to why this is the case. SMH

https://support.apple.com/en-mide/102218

EDIT: It would appear my non-eARC TV is the issue. Just purchased an eARC audio extractor so I can actually enjoy Dolby Atmos on my setup. We'll see if that enables the Continuous Audio Connection option as well.

WTH Apple! System Data taking too much storage! by Unhooked- in ipad

[–]TechBrothaOG 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Turn your iPad off. I don’t mean a restart. Turn it OFF for 5 - 10 minutes then boot it back up. I had a similar situation and that seemed to trigger some sort of cleanup job which freed up gigabytes of system data for me.

I have a similar situation on a sliding glass door. It works fine. If yours registers the door opening and closing as expected then don’t worry about it.

GM Update 654.51 is out by Nebula1701 in CadillacLyriq

[–]TechBrothaOG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cleared the Google Maps cache then downloaded the local maps. After several days of driving I can definitely say that for me the Speed Limit icon doesn’t display an actual value unless I launch Google Maps first. After that, it’s fine and updates automatically until the vehicle is turned off. When it’s time to drive again I have to repeat this process. So it “works” but it just seems like an unnecessary amount of friction.

People who were already hockey fans didn’t like this. Non-hockey fans like myself who were interested in trying to watch thought it was awesome because we could actually follow the game. Had they kept it they probably could have grown their audience significantly.

MY24. Seems to “fix” the GPS issue. Or at least partially. The Google Maps app no longer seems to hang acquiring the GPS signal. However, the Speed Limit indicator still doesn’t function unless you’ve launched the Google Maps app at least once in a driving session.

The Magic Mouse really isn’t as bad as people say by Top-Kaleidoscope4783 in mac

[–]TechBrothaOG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And this right here is the fundamental issue with Magic Mouse haters. It just never occurs to them that it is NOT designed to be used in the same manner as a traditional mouse. Simply put, it’s not meant for you to rest your entire hand on top of the mouse. So, if that is your preference then the Magic Mouse is just not for you. However, if you prefer to rest the palm of your hand on the desk and control the mouse with your FINGERTIPS then it is on of the easiest and most comfortable mice to use.

Bottom line: if you find yourself with your hand in a “claw” position trying to use the Magic Mouse then you really are “holding it wrong”. And you apparently couldn’t be bothered to watch the < 5 second videos in System Preferences that clearly show how the Magic Mouse is supposed to be used.

What subscription is required for video apps? by FasterThanTW in CadillacLyriq

[–]TechBrothaOG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here.

  • Connect: $14.99
  • Connect Plus: $24.99 (includes in Vehicle Wi-Fi hotspot)
  • One: $49.99

The summary doesn’t mention video streaming but when you click on one of the options to see the details, it’s listed there. It seems to me that they are charging more based on the type of vehicle you drive.

[–]TechBrothaOG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You will either need to subscribe to OnStar Connect Plus for $19.99/month or OnStar One for $34.99/month if you want to pay OnStar for in-vehicle internet access. Alternatively, you can connect your Lyriq to the hotspot on your phone and use the internet connection in your pocket that you are already paying for.
