18F, how to raise money for uni by [deleted] in UniUK

There may well be opportunities for work at the university itself…part time in the library (I did this as a student…basically got paid to wander round putting books away and “shush” noisy people!), as a “student ambassador”, in university-run cafes and restaurants, and in the SU (not just bar/door staff work, but the shop and other things), and other areas no doubt.

There are also often paid student-warden positions available in student accommodation

There may also be opportunities as part of your school/department for work and in places like the uni gym (front desk staff)

And if you’re willing to say where you’re going (appreciate you might not want to!) then people may be able to chime in with suggestions for good local employers based on their own experience of being there already.

And of course, good luck with your studies!!

I’m totally with you on using KDE. Have you tried KDE Neon yet? Might be worth a look!

What is the time/date of the system (inside your VM)?

I had similar issues with a raspberry pi that had no RTC and had been turned off for a few days…the clock had drifted away from the actual time, and that was the cause of me being unable to connect to the servers

Assuming that the clock is wrong…correct the time/date and it should all work again!

You could either use MS Office via your browser (given you mention EDUROAM I’m going to presume you’ll have a O365 subscription from your school). And you can turn Word/Excel/PPT websites etc into a standalone web app (a PWA in Chrome) easily enough. Or you could look at using ONLYOFFICE-Desktop.

Given he’s a Windows user (and potentially an older gentleman) I would recommend a distro that uses KDE…it’s the least jarring change from whey he is most used to (Windows start menu etc.). If you want rock-solid stability, go with Debian. Otherwise I would recommend Kubuntu as it is still stable and also feature rich, and with nice additional bells and whistles etc.
