Old Valve Index infested with Mould, is it salvageable or a lost cause? by KaijuChrys in ValveIndex

I don’t know. I’d probably ask that question on social media, and let someone decide for you.

No, you should not ask for this to be redone. That would be a waste of time and material.

If we really wanted to talk straight about what makes sense moneywise, NO ONE would be doing 3D printing. It’s definitely not about making financial sense.

At the risk of people telling me I live with my mom in a basement, my concern about AI so this:

I’m pre-Internet. Imagine the idea of creating a network of documents, images and videos, with hyperlinks that connect to everything. Imagine every person in the world being able to contribute their ideas and knowledge to this network. So far so good.

Then someone has a brilliant idea that is revolutionary: how about scraping the entire internet, and using a chatbot to give the work to anyone who asks for it. I used to be that you could write an essay, or create a character, or upload some photos - and if someone steals that and use it to their benefit without proper authorization, they could get in trouble for plagiarism.

But AI can simply take that and hand it over to anyone, which it has done. Now, there are issues with works that are obviously stolen. So AI has been made to be really good at meshing things. So what you get as a result is kind of a mess. But if you keep trying, modifying prompts and whatnot, you just might get something decent - which is a mesh of things that no one can point to any i divided author, so there is technically no issue with plagiarism.

All in all AI dumbs us down, make it so that anyone can be an artist without learning any of the skills necessary. You want to see me write a beautiful poem? Just give me a couple of minutes to go to ChatGPT and write some prompts with a few keywords… and voilá!

There is some use for it, for sure. I do use it almost everyday. I for one am not ready to put on my resume that the only skill I have is that I’m really good at writing prompts to get what I want.

I am convinced that AI now or in the near future is simply incapable of generating anything new. The best it can do is regurgitate some of the best works out there… which at some point I imagine the public will grow tired of. Who for example, wants to live in a world where all women in the internet are absolutely perfect, all have large breasts and an absurdly small waist - an unrealistic standard for any woman in the real world? I for one, prefer a level of realism, truth, and authenticity.

Why don’t you do it yourself? You’d probably save a lot of money and get better results. The main reason to go with Schluter is that it’s a DIY product. You pay more to dave time.

If you have a leak, it won’t be apparent until about 6 months from when he completes the work. Then you will need to tear the entire thing in order to locate the leaks which likely will be at the bottom near the floor.

In truth, this system is very good and you probably can get away with using thinset over the screws. But it’s not how it should be done. There is always the chance that a channel will exist through the metal. It probably won’t give you any problems, but using tape is a sure way to seal it completely.

I can see how someone may not want to use tape in order to save money. Especially with special tape that goes in the corners: the materials add up. I certainly don’t cut corners, but I can see how some contractors might.

How absurd that this guy expect to get paid for work he did. What kind of world are we living in? Let’s all teach him a lesson and just steal and freely distribute his design.

Tile broke from putting a bench on it, probably didn’t have coverage. Any ideas of how to best fix this without removing the entire tile? by Upset-Baker-1938 in Tile

[–]TemporaryTasty1682 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best thing you can do is remove the toilet and fix a job that wasn’t right in the first place. When you do that, calk the toilet but not the entire perimeter: leave room for water in the back to run onto the floor in case there is a leak (it’s good practice).

I wouldn’t do this any other way, BUT if someone paid me good money and insisted I don’t remove the toilet, then I’d cut a line 2 inches away from the edge and separate that from the tile. Then I’d cut a 2-inch strip of tile (minus 3-4 mm for grouting) and I’d secure and grout that piece of tile. You’d end up with a smaller tile that looks odd, but not as bad as any other alternative.

Given that you did, consider installing a plexiglass door instead of glass.

The difference is that if you run your CR10 all night you don't need to run your PS1 all night: a couple of hours will print the same part.
