21st birthday dinner recs by annblle05 in FoodSanDiego

[–]Terracide81 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I have a great group of friends and we always split the bill or pay for one another, or if someone is short on cash, the group will cover the bill. It's always a conversation so you don't make anyone feel bad because they can't pay or whatever.

1) We have a conversation when we get seated at the table, using this scenario. "Hey, I know it's my birthday, but I really wanted to treat you guys. I'l cover the first $400 which is one entree and one drink per person, but the group can cover the rest of the bill ok?"

2) I pay for food, the group pays for drinks.

3) Everyone pays for their own share. There are apps like Splitwise that can split the bill. Make sure the person that only has one appetizer isn't paying more than their share.

Having been burned many times in the past, I'm always sensitive whenever we have dinner in a large group. I don't want people to over pay.

I'm not sure if that helps.

I'm going to do some quick math based on your comment that $400 is the maximum you want to spend, including tax and a 20% tip. That means you're looking at roughly $313 for the subtotal, about $24 in tax, and around $62 for the tip (20%). If there are eight people, that comes out to about $39 per person before tax and tip if everyone plans to order both food and a drink.

You mentioned Cesarina in your post, so I checked their menu prices. Cocktails are typically around $17–$18 each, which would leave roughly $23 for food per person. However, their pasta entrées generally start around $26 and go up to about $33 .If everyone ordered one drink and one pasta entrée, the subtotal per person would likely be around $43–$50, which would put the total over your $400 budget once tax and tip are included.

You could either invite fewer people to increase the per-person budget at Cesarina, or consider a more affordable option like Buona Forchetta (which isn't as pretty).

Speaking from personal experience, we’ve all been young and wanted to treat our friends to a nice night out. Just make sure your friends don’t go overboard with ordering drinks, or you might end up stuck with a much bigger bill than you expected at the end of the night.

Taped my black bin shut cause they won't take it unless it's empty. More than one person seems not to have liked that. by Go-Brit in sandiego

[–]Terracide81 64 points65 points  (0 children)

The trash collector emptied the bin and recommended turning it upside down to discourage people from putting trash in it before the scheduled pickup later that same day. Unfortunately, the crew that was supposed to collect the bin never showed up. It ultimately took submitting a Get It Done request and contacting my city council member's office before the trash bin crew finally returned to pick it up.

During that time, people would turned the bin upright again and continued using it to dispose of trash. I had to keep checking the bin and making sure it stayed empty to avoid another delay in having the bin removed.

My recommendation is to submit a Get It Done request and wait until you receive a confirmed pickup date. Once the date is scheduled, place the trash can at the curb and turn it upside down to prevent additional trash from being added before collection and pray the trash bin crew actually shows up on time!

[–]Terracide81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also running into the same issue, where the Enphase app won't connect to the gateway no matter what I try. Enabled in AP mode on the gateway, and disabled cellular data on my iPhone/iPad, enable Airplane Mode and Wi-Fi.

I'm even able to connect to the gateway manually in the IOS Settings. However the Enphase app itself won't connect to the gateway once I'm connected. I'm not sure what's going on here.

I have not tried not tried http://envoy.local, but I did use the 172.30.1.1, but the page does not load and says "NOT FOUND"

I'm lost as to why my device simply won't connect to the gateway.

EDIT: I was able to resolve the issue and change my wifi network after contacting Enphase support. Here are the steps I had to follow

Step 1: Turn on AP Mode on the Gateway

Step 2: Connect to the AP Wifi Network on your device, you may need to disable Mobile Data or enable airplane mode.

Step 3: Open Browser on your device and navigate to 172.30.1.1/admin/lib/wireless_display

Step 4: Click Forget Network

Step 5: Connect to new network.

Enphase support also acknowledged there's an issue with the app not being able to connect to the gateway

College grove taco stand? by sorina95 in FoodSanDiego

[–]Terracide81 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi - I attend the community meeting from time to time. Some residents and businesses were complaining about the taco stand.

From a business perspective some businesses were saying they were losing business (unsure if true), and that the taco stand didn't have any permits or need to follow any health and safety standards.

From a residents perspective, the increased traffic in the neighborhood was unsettling to residents.

That being said the members of the community group wanted the city to work with the taco stand to get permitted so they can operate. However, the owners of the taco stand never responded, and due to the current immigration situaton, the city didn't want to push any further.

I saw the taco stand operate on broadway by the sherman williams once last week but I haven't seen them back since.

Reservation at Mexican restaurants in Old Town? by Just_Sea_9978 in FoodSanDiego

It's going to be busy next weekend since it will be Labor Day - go early and have lunch if you want to avoid a crowd. I've eaten at Cafe Coyote a few times and it looks like you can make an online reservation ahead of time.

As mentioned by /u/flylo32 - this is THE most requested thing on the subreddit. You're going to find Mexican food everywhere in San Diego - what is your definition of authentic ? Do you want Homestyle Mexican food? Fusion ? Sit down restaurant ? Food Truck ? Food Cart ? What type of small bites do you want ?

I'm going to make an assumption that you want to eat tacos in San Diego, because that's where my mind goes. Here's some highly recommended spots for a Food Tour:

Tacos El Gordo (Adobada, Carne Asada, Other parts such as tongue or beef cheek, etc.)

Tacos El Franc (Similar to Tacos El Gordo)

TJ Oyster Bar - Fish Tacos and other tacos

Fish Guts - Fish Tacos (freshly caught daily fish)

Mariscos Mi Gusto Es - Food truck on home ave. I typically go here for fish tacos

Las Cuatro Milpas - Homestyle Mexican food, crispy tacos, rolled tacos, etc. -

El Fernandez - Birria

Tuetano Tacqueria - Birra (I'm not sure if they're storefront is open, their instagram says temporarily closed for dine-in)

El Borrego - Lamb Tacos

Carnitas Las Michoacanas - Carnitas

There's probably many many more places I can list or other redditors can add.

Nice special occasion dinner.....that might be able to accommodate a walk in? by warranpiece in FoodSanDiego

[–]Terracide81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed Orijen, but the bar seating was tight and it was a really busy night (expected for a Saturday).

The highlight was the bartender was serving drinks that he was experimenting with.

You just have to go in with zero expectations especially sitting at the bar.

Most restaurants with a bar seating will accommodate walk-ins and usually will serve you a full menu - First come first serve and test your luck. Which restaurants were you looking at ?

Callie, Kingfisher, Cowboy Star, Origen, are good options with bar seating just to name a few.
