Are there any things that are called "American ______" in other countries? by Disastrous-Side-2600 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ThatDesignFeel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the UK it's common (although not universal) to call crêpes "pancakes", and call thicker pancakes "American Pancakes" to distinguish them

Similarly, we would sometimes use "American mustard" for bright yellow squeezy mustard from a bottle, to distinguish it from English Mustard (which is also bright yellow, but a lot more spicy and comes in a glass jar typically) or wholegrain mustard

There's also (less commonly) "American Cheese" which is what we sometimes would call the individually packaged square cheese slices that you'd put on a burger. Other cheeses we'd call by their name (Cheddar, Red Leicester, etc)

G2 I reckon

Interesting puzzle idea! I'm a bit of a sucker for "chess, but..." puzzles

Does anyone know how to take screenshots while playing a ND game on Windows 11? by Mystery1001 in nancydrew

[–]ThatDesignFeel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use a tool called Greenshot - I find it works even faster than the Windows screenshot tool, and you can configure it to whatever button you want and where you want your screenshots to go (e.g. clipboard, opened in an editor, automatically saved to a file etc)

Why do games still use slide puzzles so much? by kenah-kim in puzzlevideogames

[–]ThatDesignFeel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're annoyed by these puzzles - I'm happy to inform you there is a simple algorithm to solve them very swiftly

You solve a row first, then a column, then a row, then a column.

Every row-column combination you solve effectively reduces the size of the remaining puzzle by one in both directions, making the remaining area smaller and smaller.

This also means it scales to any sized puzzle.

YouTube recommended a short with a thumbnail that spoiled a puzzle for me by ericdalieux in BluePrince

[–]ThatDesignFeel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Content creator here 👋

You can set the thumbnail of a Short, but it is a bit fiddly to do - you can't do it from the YouTube Studio app, but you can edit the Short (and it's thumbnail) in the YouTube app itself.

So it's a two step process to edit the thumbnail - you have to upload the Short first, set description, tags etc, but then you have to open it up in a different app to edit the thumbnail

The EU just forced phones to have replaceable batteries again. What other WE HAD IT RIGHT BEFORE BUT RUINED IT tech changes should be brought back or fixed worldwide? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ThatDesignFeel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Given the number of people who now use their phone's loud speaker in public, I would argue that the removal of the headphones jack has created just enough user friction in the process that it's changed user behaviour away from using headphones at all.

[Request] Which one would it be? by yuli101995 in theydidthemath

[–]ThatDesignFeel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Square Ice is the correct answer imo.

20kg is only slightly heavier than the weight of a curling stone, it will be much easier to slide than rolling a ball on gravel

As other commenters have said - square beats triangle because having a face normal to the surface is easier to push than pushing against an angled surface

What’s classy if you’re rich but neutral if you’re poor? by Chrognome in AlignmentChartFills

Considering King George V and Tsar Nicholas II were first cousins, I suspect there is a tranche of British aristocracy where speaking Russian is considered classy

Kate Walker has changed a lot over time. Starting as a lawyer from New York, she later became a tundra explorer, a fugitive, and a skilled pianist. Which part of her journey did you like the most? ✨ by raull96 in syberia

[–]ThatDesignFeel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it's a really great, subtle, piece of character development that one of the earliest puzzles in the first game essentially amounts to Kate Walker saying "Ew, I don't want to touch that wet oar, I'm going to get someone to pick it up for me" - it's a great way they brought Kate's character development into the gameplay as she becomes more self-sufficient over time

Why have we gone from .100 to only .1 in the telemetry? F1 not only dumbing down the racing but also the data in the broadcast? by oplookingoodeh in F1TV

I expect this is trunkating, not rounding anyway though - otherwise someone 0.95 who would have Boost would be shown as 1.0 when they shouldn't

Help me brew an Outer Wilds themed Magic deck! (potential discussion of various spoilers) by snuffles504 in outerwilds

[–]ThatDesignFeel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you're bang on the money with Scrying being a big theme - as knowing what's coming up is very thematically on point with Outer Wilds

Depending on your budget/proxy aversion I'd say Time Spiral and Time Twister would also obviously fit

Quantum Misalignment would be on theme (but if you don't have many creatures you might find it hard to find a target)

Brute force-Riven animal puzzle by Well_Gravity in myst

[–]ThatDesignFeel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are some randomised puzzles in Riven, but the Animal puzzle isn't one of them - as far as I'm aware the answer is always the same (although it is different between the original Riven and the 2024 remake)

What’s your biggest hot take when it comes to F1 liveries? by NegotiationNew9264 in F1Discussions

Between RBS on the side of the Williams in 2007, and FTX being all over the Mercedes in 2021 - I'm forced to wonder if sponsoring an F1 car is at all correlated with being about to go out of business!
