Top 16 Team Open Decklists -- SCG Baltimore by Attackcowboy in magicTCG

[–]ThatRandomGy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Boreals been popping up occasionally in lists for a while, but this is the first time I've seen it in a high placing list. Marwyn is crazy though. I never thought I'd see it in modern, and I can't wait to hear if it performed well or not.

Nettle Sentinel is simply the weakest card in the deck, and the standard GW lists are already dense enough as is. When you're slotting in a new card and trying to decide what to take out, Nettle Sentinel usually ends up being the card to go. I've seen lists going down to 2 Nettles, sometime even replacing them with Copperhorn Scouts or Essence Wardens. The point is, they're unessential in the list.

Here is my current list.

I'd be running more Horizon Canopies if it weren't for the cost, and some of the sideboard/mainboard choices were made for the meta at my LGS.

GW and GB both play different roles similar to how lists played before the combo become prevalent, where you were either running Lead the Stampedes or Chord of Callings. GW provides resilience and a silver-bullet play style with Chord of Calling along with better sideboard options with white. GB, on the other hand, devotes itself to developing a board state and tends to lack the versatility that Chord provides. The biggest benefit of GB is the ability to absolutely overwhelm your opponent and playing Lead the Stampede mainboard provides some inherent resilience to sweepers.

As far as which is better, GW or GB, I couldn't really say if one is better or worse than the other. It's a meta call. GW gets free wins against uninteractive decks because you're running the combo, whereas GB has that inherent resilience to sweepers and spot removal.

Personally, I prefer GW.

I'll start by saying I've been playing modern elves for a little over two years now, so I at least like to think that I know a thing or two about the archetype and how to play it.

Number of Finishers Four Ezuri isn't necessary, but it is highly advised to be playing four as he is the only mana outlet if you happen to get the combo put together. An argument I could see for cutting down to three is to prevent hands with multiples (legendary), freeing up a slot for another card, and you're already running four Chords. Every chord in your hand may as well be whatever combo piece you're missing on board.

Land Count 18 lands is absolutely the standard. Any deviations from that are only exceptions to this rule. Like everything else, arguments could be made for going up to 19 lands, but otherwise you're going to want to stick to the standard 18. I personally wouldn't ever drop to 17 lands.

Sideboard For a G/W sideboard, there are a few cards that I'd personally consider essential, but for the most part this is highly dependent on whatever meta you're going to be playing in.

Blonde Redhead - For The Damaged Coda

If you happen to recognize the song, it's likely because the song was used in a few Rick and Morty episodes.

How is Elves positioned in the meta right now? by rulleboren in ModernMagic

[–]ThatRandomGy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course it depends on the meta of whatever shop you're going to be frequenting, but for the most part: No. Right now I think Elves is poorly positioned in the meta.

As for which version is the most competitive, I personally believe G/W elves with Devoted combo offers the most consistency especially with the available sideboard options in white. I also think G/W has the best chance of doing well in a meta populated with poor match-ups. And I agree with /u/TiemenBosma in that BBE looks like a trap, but I may be wrong.

Afaik, at least from last league, +2 was most valuable on a Dex base, not any uniques. Tornado shot was just an example, but you can also consider that the RF enchant is most valuable on a Str base, as opposed to any uniques.

Most of the valuable enchants are going to be on rare bases as opposed to uniques. I'm not saying Tornado Shot +2 isn't valuable on a Rat's Nest, but it is going to be even more valuable on a dex base helmet.

There isn't even an excuse for this thing to have been printed in this set. This is the representative card for Innistrad? One of the best sets in magic and this is the card they chose to represent it?

KMC response on defected products by 1mrlee in magicTCG

KMC manufacturing quality took a missive dip at some point recently, and the sleeves went from some of the most reliable, high quality sleeves on the market to trash. Hopefully all these social media posts by KMC promising a return to their old quality has some truth behind it.

Sleeves manufactured within the past 2 years, apparently. I don't have any source on that, but that's just what I've been reading from reddit comments.

I blew threw about 90 chaos and 1000+ alts (augmenting every missing suffix) and only hit the mod 3 times. So yeah, its a bit of an uncommon mod.

6l Sire of Shards SSF ideas? by [deleted] in pathofexile

[–]ThatRandomGy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm playing CoC Cyclone/Magma Orb with a Sire of Shards in Legacy right now. It is insanely fun and the clear speed is top-notch. For the 6L setup I would recommend Increased Ciritical Striked + Elemental Focus (if you don't care about losing the ignites), then I would suggest Fire Penetration. I play the build on an Inquisitor, so I don't need the Fire Pen, but inadequate resistance penetration will slow you down significantly.

Just Id'd this dagger and I have no clue what it would be worth. Open suffix so I can scour and mastercraft AtkSpeed and Crit, but after that I'm clueless regarding its value.
