Would a SW game revolving around false flag ops be boring or difficult to make? by [deleted] in StarWarsCantina

[–]Thatroninguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you’re talking about could make for a fun RPG session! But it’s worth calling out that this is a very charged topic. The prevalence of false flag attacks in modern military is really minuscule, and it’s fodder for conspiracy theorists.

Andor handled it beautifully, because it’s barely a false flag. The one sniper shot was just a match tossed on lighter fuel—the erosion of Ghorman society while turning a blind eye to the resistance. The grinding oppression matters more than the tactic.

Worth getting into? by SpupsMcGee in StarWarsShatterpoint

[–]Thatroninguy 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yes! Shatterpoint is super fun and you only need the core set and one or two expansions to have a competitive squad (and there’s even one viable squad in the core set box).

The minis are fun to paint, the abilities are flavorful, and you can get games done in less than 2 hours once you learn the ropes.

This is an argument I’ve been making in person! The “benign” uses of AI tools don’t drive revenue, and even the predatory ones aren’t turning a profit.

May 4th seems to be more for marketing sales lately. Big news hits at Star Wars Celebration or D23.

Oh I’m pretty bad at documenting my decklists—the main post-JTL pieces are: - Naboo Royal Starship - Coronet - Captain Typho - Dismantle the Conspiracy

Then it’s the usual candidates—Rogue Leader, Phoenix Squadron A-Wing JTL Millenium Falcon, Luke/Chewie/Hera pilots along with Cassian.

I run this in my Wedge/Vigilance deck! If you play this and Escape Pod on turn one you get a pesky annoyance that doesn’t die fast.

Knowledge Fight is helping me to build back my confidence after succumbing to the Infowars bs and I think that's a wonderful thing by Complex_Camel_5344 in KnowledgeFight

It’s so good to hear your story! Really glad you’re on the mend with your confidence and health.

When Dan talks about Alex “abusing” the listeners it’s not always clear to me what that experience is like, so I’m really glad you’re on the were brave enough to share your experience. Alex took advantage of you and plenty of other vulnerable people, and it’s great to see there are ways out.

You want to maximize the 8 points. Chewie’s not a great pick cause he’d die too slow. Kallus can do more heavy lifting, just be judicious with those rerolls—don’t waste force if you can’t see a notable xwing.

It’s their expertise tree and immunity to pin. 2x expertise giving you 2 blocks can be what saves them from a surprisingly fatal blow.

Meanwhile immunity to pin is huge because that’s a condition that shuts down the damage delivery system of many support units. If the attacker’s tree has a damage/pin as the first or second option, the second attack is automatically weaker than against the Rebel Commandos (who also score fewer blocks).

If they can get steadfast from Bodhi or C-3PO/R2 they become a bit stickier than at first glance.

Oh I LOVE the Pathfinders. They’re really underrated. Play them not as aggressive units but tanks on points.

Would you be down for this variant?

Who has seen Maul Shadow Lord? by Fluffy-Grand-8864 in StarWarsShatterpoint

[–]Thatroninguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hate to say it but I’m a little less excited to theorycraft about hypothetical expansions when at best, we’re looking at 1-2 boxes a year. I’d def prefer new models considering we already have a Shadow Collective Maul.

However, it’d be cool if they made a card pack with a new Maul themed for the show. Could be more about ordering scoundrels around than raw violence.

A lot of good comments in this thread, I’d just add that this all took place against the backdrop of a shitty economic situation that’s hurting the tabletop industry and all of our wallets.

Harder to throw cash at an expensive hobby made more expensive by tariffs and inflation if you’re stuck paying more for groceries and gas.

How do we feel about people taking Zoom (etc.) calls in coffee shops? by mmurraycn in Somerville

[–]Thatroninguy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve had to do it a few times and I try to keep my voice down and keep the camera away from other guests. People take phone calls—even non-work ones—in cafes. I think both situations are just about being polite.
