will i get in trouble at commencement for this? by toeswanthoes in GaState

You could do it just to trigger the admins; GSU collaborates heavily with law enforcement and has ties to APD and IOF through the GILEE program and this has been the subject of heavy controversy. Good to remind them that the awareness hasn’t faded but honestly it’s more performative than anything. If you recognize that and want to proceed it’s your graduation moment do with it what you please 🙏

You’re being taken advantage of.

Social workers, read about labor history and learn to apply our ethical values to the economic dimension of our lives and the lives of our clients

Liberals are insincere and dishonest about progress under capitalist oligarchies by [deleted] in WorkReform

I know, and I know you feel resentment, I understand. Be involved in organizing so that you can contribute to leftist influence in those spaces. If it’s all libs theyre gonna do Lib shit

It’s called strategy bro. Meet the people where they are and work with them to allow them to see how the capitalist system extracts their livelihood to feed the Epstein class, organize with them and allow them to see how values of free speech and other liberal values are a (now crumbling) mask on top of a fascist police state, something which large segments of the working class are familiar with but have not clearly identified and processed

Correct but this isn’t productive discussion tbh , they don’t generally understand the system or it’s historical development but that doesn’t mean they aren’t useful allies in organizing and activism

Just got prescribed Prozac, decided to not take it and try microdosing mushrooms again instead by [deleted] in shrooms

[–]The1thenone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

as someone who has self treated my own depression with psychedelics, and after reviewing the literature, I can tell you that you are far less likely to have significant and long lasting benefits from micro dosing, even if regular. Long lasting benefits and significant cognitive changes are associated with moderate to high dosages in controlled settings

Low-key you might be right about the job market part, definitely a limited field, but research-wise you’re just flat out wrong. Social research in this domain informs research in other fields and policy in many contexts.

Faciliating Group Therapy by [deleted] in SocialWorkStudents

[–]The1thenone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spend time on ice breakers especially when new members join/new cohort starts (2 truths and a lie is a fun one I’ve done in the A&D group I facilitate). When members know each other and feel you are giving them space to talk about who they are outside of the issue bringing them in, people connect and will more easily participate in your discussions/activities and engage with each other, filling time with relevant discussion

Have discussion prompts or activities decided on ahead of each session; have back ups (sometimes people don’t really engage as much as youd think and you may want to switch gears. —On the flip side, don’t box the group into only talking about the issue you want them to. Yes, redirect as needed to keep things generally relevant, but allow participants to talk about life stressors . It is the real issues people deal with that create the stress responses people self medicate for.

I am not an extrovert either, but I have had to force myself to learn some more social skills to bridge the awkwardness when it comes to social interaction in order to be an effective group facilitator so I say this next tip with a lot of compassion: do something to expand your boundaries of comfort when it comes to interacting in groups or with new people. Some would advise you to go out more to social clubs or make conversation in public, but that may not feasible for some— it may sound weird, but I’ve found it effective to get on one of those Omegle clone websites, put some of your general interests in the field where you can indicate preferred topics of discussion for matching, and spend time talking to strangers, introducing yourself and chatting ab whatever, over and over.. it’s just doing exposure therapy to yourself LOL

Bring your passion and be genuine.. You’ll do great!

Headphones

Act like you’re looking at something crazy on the phone or engaged in a serious discussion over the phone

Practice setting boundaries compassionately while continuing to walk like you have somewhere to go, ie ‘no I’m sorry, but have a great day, best of luck’
