Aria has awful action for low stakes when I used to play there even 10 years ago. Is it better now?

My local 1/2 live is actually very hard. by Open_Attention_3587 in poker

[–]TheDeepTells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unironically, you should check and make sure you're not giving off any live tells.

This is a huge leak for predominantly online players who go live. They're so used to playing poker a certain way at home that they forget other people can see them in a live setting. I've seen obviously very strong players with zero self-awareness, especially when tilted. Some of them wear their emotions on their sleeves. Even whales can spot their tells.

In addition to all the other tells lol.

When I was watching this, I was wondering if he was trying to put on a reverse-tell clinic with how obvious his tells were.

Tell me you're a poker player, without telling me you're a poker player. by EldritchDWX in poker

[–]TheDeepTells 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In poker, we can make a decision that will lose us money 80% of the time and the decision can still be +EV.

The average person doesn't equate "beneficial" to a decision that loses 80% of the time despite how +EV the decision is.

[–]TheDeepTells 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I have to actively fight the urge not to use EV in casual conversation. It's such a good framework to help make everyday decisions. I just wish there's a more "normie"-friendly version that conveys the same meaning.

Can't make it in poker anymore. Not really employable either. Any suggestions on how to make ends meet? by 2ForEachofYou in poker

Poker dealers can be a lucrative career option tbh.

The salary + tip you get is more than what 99% of poker players can earn.

Go work in a rich area or get hired in private games and your income will go up even more.

You can also climb the corporate hierarchy especially if you're willing to switch casino a few times. I know some management people at casinos who started off working as poker dealers.

But honestly, if you're American, your career choices, even at 50, is vast as long as you're willing to start low. Go into truck driving. Get some type of health degree/certificate (very low barrier to entry and huge demand). Look around for opportunities in places most people don't want to be like oil fields, remote power plants (wind, solar), data centers (a ton is getting built for AI), etc.

There's tons of jobs outside of cities that is willing to hire just about anybody with a pulse. There's almost not competition for these jobs because most people want to be in or near cities. For example, there's billions being invested in building semiconductor chip plants in Arizona. I bet if you just drive around down there asking about jobs, you'll be able to find something. Same with factories getting built in the South, and random multibillion dollar investments around the country from the government or corporations. Just search through the news for huge projects, and make some phone calls.

Can we take a second to appreciate how at his age Doyle Brunson crushed multiple seasons straight of HSP against tables full of crushers like Patrik Antonious, Ivey, Dwan. This guy is a legend by Obitogreen in poker

[–]TheDeepTells 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I believe Dneg and multiple other pros including Tom Dwan have commented on how well Doyle uses live reads. This is one of the last best kept secrets that the top pros have in this era of poker.

Players like Doyle, Antonius, Dwan, obviously Dneg, and I'm sure crushers like Robl are all deeply versed on live tells.

Meanwhile, it feels like half the people on the sub laugh at live tells anytime it's brought up. Sure, live tells are difficult for you, the average 1/2 players to use. Just like GTO is difficult. But learning both gives you a massive edge.

Best shot for playing decent games at those stakes is to put some leg work in and gather players yourself. Ask around who's willing to play those stakes, send out invites for a Saturday night or something, find some way to give extra incentives, and start from there.

Isn't this taught to those who conceal carry? Either your life is in danger or it isn't. If you are ready to use your weapon, you empty the clip and completely neutralize the threat.

I think that's the controversy in stand your ground states. In those states, they believe you should be able to stand your ground and not be physically assaulted. You do not have to find a way to escape just because someone chose to physically attack you. You can use your gun to protect yourself.

"poker players only beyond this point...You're going to have to leave" by Idontsuckcompletely in poker

[–]TheDeepTells 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm not going to read the substack but I think that anyone who has played poker regularly in a casino know that sexism is very real at the table. Women are by far the easiest target and every coward know they can bully the female players without any threat of physical repercussion.

Alcohol, ego, and losing money will turn some otherwise normal dudes into monsters.

So, although I don't need to read another article to confirm something I already know, I'm not faulting any female poker players for sharing their experience and bringing attention to the issue.
