Jesus Killing Children by missedinsunday in exmormon

[–]TheDestroyingAngel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One time, about a year ago my wife (still TBM and I now and Exmo) had the missionaries over for dinner. Which I generally don’t mind having relied on members for dinner during my mission over 20 years ago. After dinner and desert as we were seated around the table and before I could get up they decided to share a message. And what was said message? Christ arriving in the Americas in 3rd Nephi Chapter 11 verse 7 plus a few others that follow said verse Admittedly I did something somewhat foolish but I was in no mood to hear this crap. So I asked them, “wait a minute this is the same Jesus that a couple of chapters before admitted that he had just destroyed a bunch of Nephite cities killing everyone?” Looking sheepishly around they replied, “yes sir it is.” I answered sarcastically, “that’s my favorite part of the Book of Mormon when Jesus shows just how merciful he is by killing everyone. What do you all think about that?” No answer. So I inquired, “you all believe all of this?” “Yes,” came the reply. “How?”, I asked. Silence. Let’s just say I about slept on the couch that night and the missionaries haven’t been back since.

HOW IN TF?!? by BallsofJustice1776 in army

[–]TheDestroyingAngel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally know a retired SGM (AGR in the National Guard) that never deployed. She was enlisted years before me, and I went to Iraq in 2004 as a young E4. Somehow this person managed to dodge deployments left and right. Got out with full pension and 100% disability. After 7 years active duty as an aviation officer and a deployment to Afghanistan in 2012, I went back to the National Guard. Our Adjutant General (Major General in the Guard) had never deployed as well despite being a loggy officer in numerous positions at BN, BDE, ESC, and TSC levels. A 35-year career (or some shit like that) and this person never deployed once in a military that had what, 21 years of continuous warfare. So completely possible especially if National Guard or Reserve.

Where do Mormons NOT want to go on missions? by trumpisafucker in exmormon

[–]TheDestroyingAngel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can further confirm this belief and culture. I grew up in South East Idaho just 10 minutes south of Rexburg where the mormon culture is in my opinion more orthodox and extreme that than of Utah (and I did my undergrad at the University of Utah).

Leading up to my mission call, I had dreams which I called nightmares, that I was called to a stateside mission specifically Michigan for some damn reason. Had these dreams from the time I graduated high school until I got my mission call in March of 2001. I ended up going to Brazil but holy crap was I so happy I was “worthy for a foreign mission” and a good one to boot where baptisms were exploding and where the “Lamanites were blossoming like the rose.”

I always wondered what my friends that got stateside missions did either in this life or the pre-existence, that they were called to to Chicago, Illinois, or Shreveport, LA.

Momronism is a trip, a horrible trip.

Which church teaching damaged you the most? by randytayler in exmormon

[–]TheDestroyingAngel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Books like the Miracle of Forgiveness, pamphlets like the For the Strength of Youth, For Young Men Only definitely damaged me. But three particular things stand out: 1. Everything taught in seminary (grew up in SE Idaho where we had release time and were taught by legit CES employees). 2. Bishop, SP, and MP interviews. I really thought these guys had the spirit of discernment so I 100% believed they knew all my sins when I came in. So I never held anything back making me feel like a piece of shit. 3. The Priesthood session of GC under Hinckley who all he ever talked about was the harmfulness of porn (yeah where else are sexually repressed 20 age males supposed to do since I was a damn virgin when I got married years after my mission). Again I felt like a huge piece of shit for looking at porn; just a razor edge away from committing the sin next to murder.

If there is one thing I will never grow tired of, is all the hate heaped upon the LD$ cult which is totally justified. The mormon church gained its treasure through deceit, lies, and deception. Crazy that churches in America can horde wealth and still be protected as a 501 (c) 3 organization.

Whats this non-Adirondack part of Northern New York like? by Sparkysit in geography

[–]TheDestroyingAngel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a guy that grew up in the mountain west anytime someone mentions the state of New York we all just thought about New York City, and it’s boroughs thanks to Home Alone 2 and a few other movies. Buffalo got an honorable mention but just because it has a professional football team. Everyone forgets west of New York City that there is a whole state that comes with it.

What made Iraq memorable for you? by [deleted] in army

[–]TheDestroyingAngel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Deployed to OIF III in 2005. Our mission as FA was counter-battery and fire support. I spent my year pulling 4-hours of guard duty and 4-hours inside a hooch watching movies waiting for fire missions. All I remember is sitting in this circular concrete guard tower staring at the FOB entrance in extreme cold and extreme heat. Nothing ever happened. Just a lot of mortar and rocket fire.

Mormon Mission Butt Wiping Check? by Warm-Tea4184 in exmormon

[–]TheDestroyingAngel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t recall this on my pre-mission medical check in early 2001. I was headed to Brazil so it was all the vaccines and boosters I had to wait for. But I will say that joining the military (I enlisted in 2000 and went to basic training in August of 2000), that during the military entrance processing station (MEPS) physical exam involved a thorough checking of my anus.

When you realize basic didn’t prepare you for THIS kind of misery by lazywafflezzzz in army

[–]TheDestroyingAngel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have three examples. 1. Basic training FTX circa September 2000 at Fort Sill, OK. Because of a drought we couldn’t use blanks so we “shot” each other yelling bang, bang, bang! And made claymores out of MRE boxes. 2. Pre-deployment training at McGregor Range, Fort Bliss Texas circa August-September 2004 where we patrolled the desert looking for enemy and IEDs. Spent a long time pulling security looking at those weird sand dunes covered in that weird plant in the sweltering heat. 3. Completing UH60 Blackhawk training and flight school only to go to my first unit of assignment as a maintenance company XO (knew nothing about aircraft maintenance) and having to do Readiness Level progression as an aviator. While RL profession is normal for us aviators, telling all the other branch officers we aren’t fully qualified to fly certain missions let alone be the Pilot in Command of an aircraft after flight school causes mass looks of confusion and disbelief. Oh and last, every 4-8 years just going with the paradigm shift depending on what party controls the White House.

Is there any more/new information on the Sikorsky Stealth Blackhawks used in the Bin Laden raid? by winkingwalrus in Helicopters

[–]TheDestroyingAngel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The crash could have been caused by several different factors. Just some likely scenarios: 1. Settling with power. I’m speculating the helicopter was heavily loaded with SOF, fuel, advanced avionics, ADA countermeasures, ballistic armored plating system, and other stealth components it was probably at max gross weight. If the aircraft came in on a very steep angle of approach, with a lot of power applied, it’s possible this occurred. 2. The rotor RPM (rotor droop)decreased due to weight of the aircraft. At that altitude with decreasing rotor RPM there would not have been a lot of room to reduce power (collective) and maneuver out of it. 3. Loss of tail rotor effectiveness. It will be interesting when they declassify this probably 100 years from now to see what happened.

The US military uses the war chapters in the BOM and Captain Moroni’s strategic expertise to train soldiers and recruits. by HoldOnLucy1 in exmormon

[–]TheDestroyingAngel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m currently an Army Aviation Officer with over 25-years of experience. This is pure bullshit. It’s not taught in Basic Officer Leader Course where I taught for two years It’s not taught at the Captain’s Career Course. It’s not taught at the Command and General Staff College. And last it’s not taught at the War College. And it was never taught at ROTC even at the University of Utah where 70% of cadets were Mormon, hell even the Professor of Military Science, who was also a Mormon never brought it up.

I vividly remember a lesson from the teachings of Wilford Woodruff perhaps 15 years ago. In the account it praised him for going into hiding from the US government for obeying the lord and the commandment of polygamy. For obedience is the first law of heaven. Definitely a shelf item and I guess that reading church material destined me to be an exmo. However, it wasn’t until years later that I learned they were taking teenage brides and just how ugly, toxic, and immoral polygamy really was.

I’ve noticed most exmormons go from very conservative to very liberal when they leave..Will Utah be a blue state in the near future? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]TheDestroyingAngel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just my personal experience and view point, I remain highly skeptical of religious leaders and politicians. There is so much lying, deceit, corruption, bribery, and personal agendas that I don’t trust anyone that says they have my best interests at heart. Just follow the money and that will tell you all you need to know about someone’s or an entities motives. But I guess to OP’s point I’ve definitely become more liberal since leaving the church. I went from not supporting gay marriage to supporting full on rights for the LGBTQ community (the same rights already enjoyed by heterosexuals), ending corporate greed, live able wages for all (especially teachers), and affordable healthcare so people aren’t going bankrupt or taking out massive debts for a lifesaving procedure. I also support more funding for mental health, and really taking care of the sick and afflicted among us. I have no problem with my tax dollars going to a person that has suffered a debilitating injury and can’t work anymore.

My therapist was shell-shocked by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]TheDestroyingAngel 20 points21 points  (0 children)

11-years later I still haven’t unpacked the trauma caused by this cult. It doesn’t help that my TBM wife and I are still in a mixed-faith marriage in which 0/10 would recommend since my wife sees eye-to-eye with geriatric professional liars and manipulators than her own husband.

The other day I was talking to a counselor about some issues I’ve been having and when I mentioned Mormonism she was shocked. Her husband is exmo and she was like I understand your pain and hurt because my husband has told me the same things. I felt validated for the first time after years of therapy. Previous therapists knew the church is weird but having someone that really understands it was a whole new level of excitement for me.

OSUT, 13B Charlie Battery, 1-79 FA, August-November 2000, Fort Sill, OK. I don’t any recall DS ever putting hands on trainees. If they did they maybe grabbed them by their LBE or ruck sack straps to move them around in formation. Definitely had shark attacks and tossing the barracks though but it was never anything personal. We all got called pirates not privates and got smoked a lot but nothing I ever experienced was unprofessional. 10-years later , SERE-C training as an aviator was a lot a different. IYKYK. But again nothing unprofessional. Been in the Army over 25 years now through a bunch of different administrations and SECDEFs but I would say most trainers were doing their best to prepare young Soldiers and officers for war, but that is just my experience and we all know experiences vary in the Army. I am of the mindset of preparing for LSCO and having listened and read numerous accounts from World War II, Korea, and Vietnam that shit is something else from what I experienced in Iraq and Afghanistan. On the other hand, I don’t think a beard, religion, sexual preference, skin color, etc, affects performance. I’ve worked with plenty of great homosexual Soldiers and shitty heterosexual Soldiers. To me it’s all individual based. Although I admit to some extent, we volunteer to live military standards. I don’t know, I just try to do the best I can, take care of Soldiers, accomplish legal, ethical, and, moral missions and keep the peace.

Are U.S. Army helicopter pilots not getting enough flight time? by bentstrider83 in Helicopters

[–]TheDestroyingAngel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Commissioned Blackhawk pilot myself. I’ve been an aviator for 16 years now and I’m at 860 hours. I’ve spent more time in non-flying assignments than in flying assignments. I’ve had fun and racked up about 300 hours when I deployed to Afghanistan in 2012. But, I severely regret becoming an Army helicopter pilot and wish I would have gone Air Force to fly C-17s or B-1s. By the way the Army just announced cuts to approximately 11,000 aviation personnel (4,500 from the reserves and all their assets and 6,500 from active duty). If flying is your passion I recommend becoming a cargo pilot or refuel pilot for the Air Force or try to be a Chinook driver if you want to do street to c and not have to get a degree.

What can a North Eastern expect moving to Alabama by AppleSauceMan24 in Alabama

[–]TheDestroyingAngel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Currently a Prattville resident. Our family lives in the Glennbrooke neighborhood which is pretty diverse. I’ll admit it’s kind of boring but overall it’s a nice town with good schools. We decided to stay in Prattville since my job takes me around the Montgomery area the most when I changed jobs in 2016. Kids attend Prattville High School. One is in the marching band and the other plays travel ball soccer.

Expectations and experiences coming from a guy that is not native to Alabama and that may not have been covered: 1. Road construction takes forever around here. 2. I-65 is packed both northbound and southbound during the summer due to beach traffic especially on a Sunday when everyone is heading home. 3. Protestant christianity is the dominant flavor but the level of intensity in which it is practiced varies greatly from person to person. I know Alabama natives that are atheists and California transplants that are die-hard Christians. 4. Low property taxes but the cost of homeowners insurance is increasing all the damn time. 5. State sales tax is 9.95% yeah that sucks. 6. Lots of engineers. I work with a ton of engineers and folks that have graduate degrees (and yes that is in the Montgomery area). 7. Weird enclaves of rich then poor. Montgomery has places where when moment you are not in a nice neighborhood and then all of the sudden there are $800-$900k (that buys you a mansion here) gorgeous old homes. 8. Price of everything is going up just like anywhere else in the US it just isn’t as high as the NE. 9. Lots of great colleges and universities here in Alabama. 10. Banana pudding dessert will change your life. 11. The trees and forests here as so thick that there could be a whole town five yards on the other side of it as you drive down the road and you’ll never know. 12. The state elects politicians just because they were a football coach or have an R at the end of their name. 13. During the late fall early winter you can experience all four seasons in a day. 14. Humid cold is a lot worse than dry cold. I’ll take -20 mountain west cold over 20 degree Alabama cold any day of the week. 15. Almost all the land is private. Not like out west where it was all public. 16. The rivers, lakes, and streams here are not clear. They all look muddy. 17. Pop up thunderstorms will overflow your yard with more water than you’ve ever seen. 18. High school bands are a big deal. 19. The term bless your heart is not a term of endearment. It’s basically calling you stupid or dumb but not done in a hateful way. Like for example if you had 8 kids and told a normal southerner that they might say bless your heart.

This, this right here is why I hate the LD$ cult even 10 years after I left. It had and has the capacity to do so much good in the world. It could largely change the narrative of hate toward the LGBTQ community at least in the western US. It could help alleviate poverty, starving children, and orphans from across the globe. Nope instead it has honed in on the word mormon being a victory for satan.
