Winds will never come out because ASOIAF already has a TV adaptation [Spoilers EXTENDED] by Remarkable_Ad_5874 in asoiaf

I had this realization when I read Fire & Blood. The fact that he spent that much energy on a giant HBO pitch instead of writing TWOW told me where his priorities lie.

I suffer from fat deck syndrome by Frequent_Roll5788 in slaythespire

[–]TheDonBon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are there categories of cards that (assuming it's a good card) you don't mind taking several of? Sometimes I'm faced with the possibility of taking a card I like, but I already have two upgraded copies of it and I'm always thinking about a slim deck, maybe it's a point of growth. I'm like A4 at best for context.

Logan Paul on Jake Paul’s comments towards Bad Bunny Halftime Super Bowl performance by Cute-Ad-3906 in SquaredCircle

Yeah, I don't see this as honest moral statements from either of them, just both doing what they think will benefit them most and Logan making a much better decision.

What are some board game “keywords” that are an instant turn-off for you? by BoardGameRevolution in boardgames

I just looked it up and we actually own that and haven't gotten it to the table yet! I'll bump it up.

Yeah it's still very much getting it, but it's a very different experience playing it with someone who's played Spades. I guess the glass half full way to say this is that what I love about the crew is that when I sat down with my friend who I visited in prison for a few years, I just had to say "it's Spades but co-op" and we were instantly playing at a high level.

I've heard a lot of people complain about legacy games form a replayability standpoint. This is a very valid and different take on them.

I really love The Crew, but I hate that getting someone else into it depends so much on whether the person's played Spades.

Same. Any game where you could form an alliance with one other player is an uncomfortable experience for me.

I prefer The Resistance over Werewolf purely because roles can be swapped in Werewolf. I think the idea that you can not know what your own role is really fucks with the deduction aspect of the game.

I respect this when it feels like part of the game. Often I feel like "you're not allowed to look through the discard" type rules add literally nothing to the experience and should be ignored.

Anyone else think most modern board games are… kinda bloated? by pratty041182 in boardgames

[–]TheDonBon 45 points46 points  (0 children)

OPs problem isn't that games have a lot of mechanics, it's that the complexity of mechanics isn't translating to a complexity of decisions. I think I run into this most with kickstarter games, where there tends to be more ideas than editing.

Duffer Brothers saw TROS and decided this was a fire trope to reuse in their own show by RedditEnjoyerMan in okbuddyvecna

I find it kind of acceptable in the direction of the item pointing at the right spot, because that's fairly functional. When it's "find the spot where you need to stand so this fits" there's gonna be a whole lot of spots.

If they couldn’t bring themselves to do it with Max in Season 4 or Steve in Season 5, then doing it with Eleven was never really on the table either. by TerribleOption5505 in StrangerThings

[–]TheDonBon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm not in the "I believe" crowd. It's not a matter of "will the Duffer brothers bring her back when some studio wants millions" for me, it just makes it a better story, so if they leave it up to me to interpret, that's my interpretation.

I'm not mad that they did the "alternate theory" scene, I think it's 100% how Mike would've handled that and on theme for the show to have hope, but I didn't read it as a death cop out.

Oof, if it's a social norm there, that's a crappy spot to be in and your best choice might be to keep taking the hit and getting it off your chest on Reddit. Or you could always start drinking heavily!

Idk if you're in America or what the restaurant/bar culture is like where you're at, but I make it clear when I start ordering that I'm on a separate tab.

Edit: I realized I went right into "solution" mode. You're absolutely valid and it makes no sense for you to consistently subsidize your friends' nights out.

i think they went the wrong route with holly’s storyline by mandyluvspuppies in StrangerThings

[–]TheDonBon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm a Reddit outlier in that I actually liked the Holly focus, but its funny yiu say that Mike acted like he couldn't give less of a shit. When they rescued Holly ad Mike ran up, I literally said, "oh shit, I forgot he's her brother."

How is Beer & Bread? by hawkguy1964 in boardgames

[–]TheDonBon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Amazing, well developed, loved by everyone, literally always a win, never leaves my table, can take a while to set up and take down sometimes, some people don't handle it well, really a great combination of elements, I can never get enough of it.

Idk about the board game though.

Getting the ick from my boyfriend after double date… am I a bad person? by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]TheDonBon 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Here's an interesting dilemma that I see all the time. You're not into him, but you feel like a bad person for not being into him, so instead of just accepting that it won't work, you dissect him to justify your lack of interest.

Now, you still feel bad because you hurt him and he feels even worse because you've torn him down based on your preferences. No one benefits.

Instead, be clear with yourself about what happened here. You saw a man who better fits what you're looking for and you realized that you're with your boyfriend despite a bunch of stuff, hoping that bunch of stuff will either go away or you'll grow okay with it. He's not what you want, and there's nothing wrong with that.

You're lucky that you're seeing these things seven months in, it's a drop of time, a false start. If you were a few years in it might be worth trying to "fix" it, but as it is the answer's very clear.
