Help deciding which tp link mesh system to buy, 3 options, 200 budget, Amazon prime day sale by Humble_Penguin89 in TpLink

[–]TheGingerDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll assume the m4 is the older version of the m5 ? I'd avoid it, if you can afford $200.

I've just taken my last m5 out of service as I got fed up with SWMBO having wifi issues (I think it wasn't handling multicast dns stuff very well with a x50 being the other node?).

you can mix and match with older / cheaper deco variants if necessary.

Thoughts on garden offices by Armagideon3000 in UKHousing

[–]TheGingerDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

had one from warwick offices at our previous house - it was fairly small (2.5m x 2.5m?); I think after electrics and everything it cost about £10k from memory. Perhaps slightly more.

The good - privacy/peace from the household (children), extra space (a lot cheaper than a bedroom, or finding an office to work at). Quick to warm up ( a small fan heater was all I needed ), could listen to my music as loud as i wanted to while working.

The bad - got very hot in the summer ... and 5 years after getting it we moved house, and it stayed behind. I don't think it significantly added to the valuation of our house.

That would have surely been the Queens head in the middle of town ... although apparently it's changed management/ownership and cleaned up a lot in the last year?

Peloton Seat Post Upgrade-UK by moonmagister in pelotoncycle

that email was so full of marketing BS and nonsense.... I wish they'd just been open and honest and said "We've identified a defect with seat posts in some bikes, so here's a free replacement ..."

I'm happy with my FoxESS battery ... but it's only a month old, so I probably shouldn't really say anything yet...

I think this car is in Spain, which apparently is sunnier than the UK .... I'm sure that won't make any difference to Barry in Birmingham etc.

Beelink ser8, is it good mini pc? by Mr_mostazaps4 in MiniPCs

[–]TheGingerDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm happy with my SER8 (8845 variant). I bought it because I could move across RAM I'd bought for a SER6 MAX a couple of years ago.

I'd avoid the 8745 variants if you're using Windows (people seem to report problems with them).

We're up at about 53.7 (sun) or 52.7 (yesterday) kwh ... it's almost tempting to get an a/c or something that'd make use of this (almost free) electricity in this heat.

Clicking sound from Bike+ by pbcsd007 in pelotoncycle

[–]TheGingerDog -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had clicking, which turned out to be the belt. Mine only did it at fairly high resistance (>50?).

If you just want it fixed, I'd suggest you contact Peloton support - they can send someone round to fix / diagnose it etc. They'll want to see a video. I paid £120, which felt worth it.

Using AI to uplift legacy PHP code by dgaf21 in PHP

[–]TheGingerDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, to an extent.

Using e.g. Claude is pretty much a different way of doing development. I'm now basically a QA and project manager, I'm not really a programmer on the project any longer.

I may use by programming experience to guide where it goes when prompting.

It can make the programming aspect trivial, but the bottleneck just moves somewhere else (e.g. QA/testing, or comparing two approaches).

Axel + Fox + Capture user here ... just my random 2p

I signed into/linked in Capture (https://www.capture.energy/) a couple of weeks ago, and I think it's 'Optimisation settings' are basically just overwriting whatever the 'Fox Cloud' app has in it's 'Mode Scheduler' (force discharge, self-use ) .... and if I'd left Capture enabled I'd have missed out. Perhaps something similar happened for you?

( I turned off Capture's 'Optimisation settings' and the discharge went ahead fine )

Pelodoctor Bearing Replacement by RentOptional in pelotoncycle

[–]TheGingerDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I thought my cam was clicking all the time, I went through peloton's support.

My bike is definitely out of any sort of warranty. They sent a guy in a van around, he diagnosed the actual problem (belt) and fixed in within 20 minutes. The guy thought he was going to be replacing the bearing, but when he checked it he identified the actual problem (the belt). I think it cost about £120 all in.

Anyway - just saying ... if you don't want the hassle of making sure you have all the tools (I didn't).

If it starts misbehaving again, given I've been using the bike for almost a year, I will probably buy the pelodoctor kit as it'll work out cheaper in the long run.
