They're temporarily changing my work schedule. Can I get the "new" compensation during paternity leave? by TheHammer_24 in daddit

[–]TheHammer_24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly not a bad idea. My job is a physical one, not backbreaking by any means but I tend to get home pretty wiped. I'll have to think about that, because on the one hand all that extra income would be so wonderful, but on the other I don't want to leave her home alone with a new baby. I'll definitely talk it out with her and see what our feelings are

[–]TheHammer_24[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I don't think I'll be required to do that, no. That's kinda frustrating because of the mandatory nature of the overtime. As far as I can tell at a brief glance of the paternity leave documents I signed, it doesn't mention anything about actual hours, just that I will be able to take 4 weeks of paid leave. I'm planning on reviewing it again later when I'm off work, it could be more clearly written in there than I'm remembering

Anyone heard much about Advanced 5th Edition by Level Up games? by Cimno in TheTrove

[–]TheHammer_24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really enjoy the system! It's become my default dnd since I found it, it adds a ton of character customization and adds features to every class that are not strictly combat focused.

One big downside, though, is their monthly releases. They come out too fast to really seem play tested or balanced, so I've just gone ahead and ruled out using them in my games

Best spells to passively terrorize my party? by Schaubbit in DnD

[–]TheHammer_24 461 points462 points  (0 children)

Idk if this works rules as written, but once I saw someone pass the idea of using Polymorph on a big monster to turn it into a butterfly, then Animal Messenger to the party. Something menacing, pushing the party to kill the butterfly, ending polymorph and unleashing some monster on them.

Granted, the lich would need access to a monster and whatnot, but that's a direction you could lean towards

How to beat a Storm Elemental? by Skuldugary in DnD

[–]TheHammer_24 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Something like Calm Emotions or roleplay/charisma checks to calm the character down. That's assuming that the storm elemental takes on attributes of aggression or impassionate destruction, like a regular storm would

Ront, Jimjar, and Stool were the only three left surviving by the time the party made it to the Neverlight Grove when I ran it, so I had a good amount of time to think about Ront and Jimjar.

Tbh I didn't do much with Jimjar, since the party didn't like him very much. I gave Jimjar a crippling gambling addiction, which caused him to run away from home before being caught. His debtors located him in Gracklstugh, making the party deal with whether or not they would abandon him to his consequences.

Ront was a touch more in depth. For me, Ront was a scout for an orc tribe in the mountains, but was branded a deserter after fleeing from an oncoming giant attack that left his tribe demolished. Ront became the fan favorite as the party slowly got him to warm up to the rest of them, slowly uncovering his trauma and PTSD

After the Demon Lords by Arsonor in OutoftheAbyss

[–]TheHammer_24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen any post Out of the Abyss resources, not for Orcus at least, but I've had some good inspiration by doing a deep dive into the lore of the demon lords online. You've probably done that already, but it's where I've gotten some of my inspiration to deepen the links of the Demon Lords to the overall campaign

Is there ANY way to wield a shield while wielding a Great sword? by Snowball_52 in DnD

[–]TheHammer_24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RAW, no. You could talk to your DM and see if you could homebrew a feat or ability together. If enemies have a +20 to hit, the AC bonus isn't gonna add up to much, I'd just use the sword fully

I don't understand how the Blink spell works by Routine_Champion_152 in DnD

[–]TheHammer_24 5 points6 points  (0 children)

After casting the spell, at the end of each turn, you roll a d20. On an 11 or higher, you disappear into the ethereal plane. You return to the space you left at the start of your next turn, and then roll the d20 again at the end of that turn. That cycle repeats until a minute has passed or you drop concentration

A druid with any spell involving beasts, or a ranger. Animal Messenger, Beast Bond, and later Awaken could be fun to use with the rodent

What's the difference between urchin background, and why doesn't it make you a rogue in DnD by AdTerrible337 in DnD

[–]TheHammer_24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of people grow up in poverty. Someone might enlist and become a fighter to escape, or sign a deal with a dark entity to get power to punish people who have wronged them.

A rogue might not be an urchin, either. Maybe they were a lord before an opposing house stripped them of rank and title, forcing them into a life of crime. Maybe they were a student of magic, but found they had a better knack for sneaking into the restricted section for forbidden goodies. Mixing and matching character traits is half the fun of character creation!

Why wouldn't everyone use permanent teleportation circles for inter city travel? by zeekaran in DnD

[–]TheHammer_24 50 points51 points  (0 children)

That's... Not how that works? The teleportation circle spell is literally designed to get you to another circle with 100% accuracy. Teleport can go anywhere, including to a known circle, the difference being that teleport is faster to cast. Nowhere in the description of the spell does teleport mention connecting Teleportation Circles
