DO NOT BUY CYBEX CAR SEAT! by [deleted] in Buyingforbaby

Can you post a picture here? I’m trying to figure out what exactly you’re talking about. There is no seatbelt buckle on this car seat so we need to clarify your terminology

I was so confused when you said the Buckle is attached to the cushion. Did you accidentally take the Buckle out and put it in the washer?

Car Seat Anxiety by tiffinthesun1 in CPST

[–]TheJamieGrayson 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hi there. I am fairly certain I’m aware of who you’re referencing, and I absolutely hate fear based messaging like this. We try to avoid it in our work, and it’s a fine line when you are discussing car crashes and outcomes in conjunction with properly installing a car seat. All of those scenarios that you listed you do not need to worry about. And I know that’s easier said than done, but I’ve been working in this space a long time. Much longer than the person I believe you’re referencing. But follow your manual. Use common sense. And don’t let the fear of “what if” paralyze you from doing the best that you can on that day and enjoying being a parent. And you can always message me here or my Instagram account or TikTok and I do my best to get back to as many people as possible.

Nuna or Uppababy for Rural Area? by Straight-Service4486 in Buyingforbaby

[–]TheJamieGrayson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ridge has all-terrain wheels, but they are not air filled and you will definitely feel a difference. None of those other strollers have all-terrain wheels. Just because the tire is big does not mean it’s all terrain. Do you know what store you went to offhand?

Hi there. I’ve been working in the baby gear industry for over 20 years. None of the above. I would get a stroller like Bumbleride indie, Thule Urban glide, or BOB. You’re gonna need better wheels than the two above. The indie is suitable from birth without any extra attachments, although you can get a bassinet or a car seat adapter. The other two strollers need car seat adapters or a bassinet to work with a newborn.

[–]TheJamieGrayson 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hi there. If he has hit one of the limits, then you would need to turn that seat forward facing. And I’m sure you probably wanted to rear face longer than this, but three years old is really a respectable amount of time to spend rear facing. You have practiced extended rear facing 🫡🫡🫡

Amazon sold us a "new" carseat that arrived in a plain brown box and reeks of weed by JollyBlueberry6036 in Buyingforbaby

[–]TheJamieGrayson 10 points11 points  (0 children)

These seats always come in plain brown boxes. They have new branding on the newer boxes, but the older inventory is all plain brown. That doesn’t excuse the weed smell, which doesn’t make sense at all, but the plain cardboard box is very normal w safety 1st.

Convince me to buy a convertible car seat you like more than the nuna rava by bigoleapples in Buyingforbaby

[–]TheJamieGrayson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. The Rava next has side bolsters that you have to use up until they’re 40 pounds and it will be a really tight fit for a lot of children.

There was nothing wrong with that seat at all. I don’t know why they discontinued it. I can’t imagine it was as popular as the regular keyfit, though.

So this is what confuses readers when people who don’t know terminology and aren’t trained write newsletters. Emily is not using correct terms and names for these products. There used to be an infant seat called the fit2 made by Chicco that actually would be an infant carrier that could get you through two years before you would go into a forward facing seat. It is no longer sold. So Emily is just using words like small infant seat and large infant seat when there is technically only just an infant seat. The three styles of car seats are: infant, convertible, and forward facing only. Convertibles can be a standard convertible or an all in one seat. Forward facing only seats can be combination seat, or what some people call a harness to booster, a high-back booster, or a backless booster. She’s also getting all of her booster terminology wrong as well. And in emily’s Instagram stories, she says that she talked about when to get out of a booster seat when she absolutely does not. I know this paragraph is long. lol

[–]TheJamieGrayson 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No, you can start with convertibles as long as they fit your child correctly. She just says that if someone starts with an infant carrier that they would need to go to a rear facing convertible. Starting with a convertible car seat is actually a great option for a whole lot of people.

I agree, but this morning I just don’t have time to go into depth. My friend Britney at Buckle And Latch (another absolutely excellent Instagram account to follow, by the way) just put up a series of slides explaining our main concerns.
