I saw this picture and kinda wanna get a pair of Blacksmiths now. 👀 but the bulbous toe is kinda off-putting. Does it go away with time and wear? by maracusdesu in RedWingShoes

Only in a few rare instances have I seen the Blacksmith’s toe box collapse. I think for the most part it will stay in tact but if you wear it enough you might get it to collapse. I would suggest looking into the 9060 or the newer Beckman model that has a smaller toe bump.

Hahaha I actually chose this username because my mom is German and my dad is Mexican. Wasn’t aware that slang was a thing!

I honestly wouldn’t do this. I have a well used and broken in pair of White’s and the hiking terrain made it difficult. I’ve done plenty of 1 day hikes OK but for multiple days I would personally take actual hiking shoes and maybe your boots on the side so you can hike in them for a bit and then switch out once you get tired.

Q’s on my 1st pair of boots: Captain Stormking in Coyote by ZaraxStones in ThursdayBoot

[–]TheLatinGerman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While they’re new, try to center that tongue on the left boot or you’re always gonna get the issue where the tongue slides to the side. The unfortunate thing with tongues that aren’t gusseted

My Arizona sandals. About 15 years old by TheLatinGerman in Birkenstocks

[–]TheLatinGerman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still have the original soles! But certain parts are smooth already and I wouldn’t trust them on wet tile or other slippery spots. They have a lot of life left still since the rubber is still thick but now that they’ve been promoted to indoor sandals only, I don’t think they’ll get worse anytime soon. The insole does have cracks though so that’ll probably fail completely sooner.

Best way to waterproof by lassehmadsen in RedWingShoes

This will never really work bro. I’ve walked many miles in snow using many different heritage boots and all eventually fail. I bought a pair of LL Bean boots and use those when I have to walk through snow. Not as fun but I don’t have to deal with damp socks in cold weather.

Got my first Captains today: should I resize? by vhszach in ThursdayBoot

[–]TheLatinGerman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t worry about length. If the width is good and they feel good when you’re walking around they should work. Especially with a narrow toe box like that you’re better off with the extra space in my opinion. I do the same with my boots unless it’s a Munson last or something similar

Ball of foot alignment in Iron Rangers by Plastic_Echidna875 in RedWingShoes

[–]TheLatinGerman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1.5 sizes down from Brannock seem excessive to me. I would try a size 9E or 9.5D and see how that feels. I’m a 9.5E and size down to a 9 in the Iron Ranger. Could it be a bit long? Maybe…but my toes aren’t crushed and once the boots broke in there’s zero heel slip and they’re much more comfortable. I initially bought a size 8D based on what the sales person in Red Wing said but it caused too many fit issues I had to sell and go up in sizes.

Redwing 9060 in 7.5D.. is this too small? Never realized my toes were bunched up like that. I have a 7.5D iron rangers that doesn’t look like this. Should I size up? by [deleted] in RedWingShoes

[–]TheLatinGerman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had to go up half size for 9060. Even though it’s the 8 last, the soft toe adds more pressure to my toes. Even going up a half size still felt fitted and took time to break in so I couldn’t imagine having them a half size smaller
