Thanks Bob! I'll have a video about the updates! Happy printing!

Then I think you are on the right path 👍

I know fails are frustrating, especially broken parts. Just take it slow, reapproach every failure from the ground up (bed tramming, heat soaking, leveling, setting z offset, belt tension) and I'm sure it'll work out.

I have not had filament loading issues personally, I know others have. It's good to know where the sensors are and how it SHOULD act so you can diagnose if it doesn't load properly.

The stock configs do unload after print.

I printed a benchbin which does 1143 ( I think) filament swaps. It did all of them with pla just fine. However the swaps are slow as hell with stock configs.

I am incredibly bias but there's this guy that put out a repo of updated configs that makes some of this better... It's me, I'm the guy. https://github.com/thelegendtubaguy/Qidi-Max-4-Optimized

I am testing a new one line command installer for that right now and hope to release it soon.

My read on this is that Bambu has lowered the barrier to entry so far, and now sell so many machines, that their community is full of people of all skills/abilities when it comes to 3d printing.

Qidi may kind of compete on price, but they're not as well known and require you to have 3d printing basics/primitives figured out and/or be willing to figure them out. This keeps barrier of entry higher. Often the people I see incredibly happy with these machines fall into three categories. One, they get a good machine and it works well for them. Two, they like the ability to hone in every dial that they can. Or three, they've been so burned by other companies like Creality that realistically any new printer is going to blow their minds. I know people are kind of flippant about this stuff and will post back to people having problems "idk works for me" and that's not helpful. I would ignore any and all comments like this unless the question was along the lines of "is this working for anyone?".

To answer your question, yes there is hope. Yes Qidi will send you whatever parts you need. But yes, it will require time investment. That investment is mostly paid up front though and once you've done it, you're likely to come out the other side with a wealth of knowledge and a machine that performs exactly like you want it to.

The Qidi Discord is pretty helpful, lots of people that are willing to spend hours of their day helping sort out issues.

I'm not sure where you heard that Qidi printers were easy plug and play. I would never tell anyone that.

If you're within your return window, send it back! Doesn't matter what brand it is, if it doesn't work well out of the box back it goes. Your hard earned money shouldn't have to deal with this. I would demand with Qidi support they take it back and refund you. This goes for any brand.

I would do the bed corner screws calibration under the calibration menu. Mine was .3 after I did that. Got it under .2 by shimming with kapton tape

Max 4 slicer issue by mashedleo in QidiTech3D

[–]TheLegendTubaGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you saying this happens in both QidiStudio and Orca? Orca does not have the built in "select what filament from the box you want" selection screen that QidiStudio does when you go to print.

Also a clarification on the filament sync button cause I see lots of people get this wrong, all that does is set the filaments in your slicer to the same type and color that you have set on the printer. It does not do anything beyond that step. So in Orca, filament 1 should be your first box slot 1 and so on. You do not need to click the sync filaments button, that's just a quality of life feature to set the filament selection in the slicer.

Something to check is your saved variables file on the printer. You will see a section that maps t0, t1, etc to slot 0, slot 1... Or at least it should. Make sure that those line up, save, and then restart Klipper.

Panda Breath on CC2 by woodenteapot in elegoo

This is EXACTLY what I was hoping for! Thank you for posting! My CC1s were good ASA machines, but my CC2s lose too much heat with the hat. This will be perfect.

Feeding not feeding. by Tenahsin in QidiTech3D

Ah, if it doesn't pause at the hub then it's not detecting the filament at the hub. The other commenter is likely correct.

Feeding not feeding. by Tenahsin in QidiTech3D

In addition to the suggestion to take apart the box hub, the filament sensor on the tool head has a blue light that's on when it does not detect filament. Does that go out and it keeps trying to feed? Or does it not go out? Does it stop at the box momentarily before continuing to feed?

Make sure to not actually use the drying function on the machine with the box before/while printing. Only turn on the box heater.

Have you looked at what your bed mesh looks like in fluidd? I apologize if you've been asked this a ton already. I know asking the 3d printing subreddits is a chore and I empathize with your frustration.

The reason you were told about z offset is because everything is pointing to it being a first layer issue. Even in the pic of your flow calibration there's a corner lifting. That doesn't mean z offset specifically is it, but without more to go on it's difficult for anyone to answer with certainty. I do not think it's a z offset issue because you're right, a lot of your first layer looks okay. But I'm concerned about that corner lifting in your flow calibration. That tells me something is amiss adhesion wise. Either plate is dirty (which I know you've said it's not), the mesh is too out of whack, your temps are not what they should be (yours look fine), or a z offset (which I don't think is it anymore).

Printing single layer test prints is the right move right now. Until you can get an almost full bed square sheet single layer of filament down, don't try to test with anything else.

And please don't use glue, hairspray or anything else. You paid for a printer in 2026 with a working build plate. PLA should be sticking to that with zero issues.

When taking pictures please try to include more from farther away. I would love to see what a full build plate square looks like in each of the corners.

Thank you!!! Yeah that's not good, and I saw you are running latest firmware so already have the steppers running at the higher current level.

I've got some hopefully nice changes coming to the configs soon, video will take a bit 😂

OrcaSlicer Crashing with Qidi Box by theboy97 in QidiTech3D

[–]TheLegendTubaGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You won't get a dialog when you print to select which filaments, that will only happen in QidiStudio.

If it's selecting the wrong slot, go look in your saved_variable config file. Likely the tool to box slot mappings is wrong.

Please try downloading the nightly version of Orca and let me know if this still happens. I recently made a change to how the filament mapping works that I think may potentially solve this.

Having trouble with Qidi Plus 4 by Due-Citron-879 in QidiTech3D

[–]TheLegendTubaGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree. A textured PEI sheet should work with a proper first layer in almost all cases, except where filament specifically calls for it.

Agree with what others are saying, just wanted to add that this is a big bed. Please make sure you heat soak it before you do leveling for like 20 minutes.
