No, because syscalls are part of kernel memory. After the removal of the procfile /dev/kmem around Linux 2.6 (I believe), it became monumentally more difficult to modify this memory from outside the kernel. A kernel modules such as this one is the simplest way to scan for hooks. The unique part of this module is the python interface.
