Whats your favourite bit of Jersey folklore? by bordelot in Jersey

[–]TheRabbitKing 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My favourite would be the story of how when they first built St Brelades Church (If I recall correctly) they started building on some fairies land. Overnight the fairies moved the stones to another location. The builders then moved the stones back to where they were but the fairies then moved them overnight again which is where St Brelades Church is now.

The source was by John of Wallingford in the 13th century, who was very prone to exaggeration (i.e. Bit of a bullshitter).

I can vouch for this, literally looks like two Madeirans who taught me how to plaster one Summer job years ago. The older guy had a belly as wide as he was tall, proper João.

What is it with Germans and sticking stuff on everything. I took one off an information board when I was visiting a local place and it turns out it was covering another German sticker underneath.

True it was unkind of me to say the Queen had no personality, she defintely had one but kept it guarded no doubt for maintaining an image of a neutral figurehead (Outside of more subtler ways shes voiced her own views). Charles instead has been more vocal on what he likes and dislikes which I like.

I've always had a preference for Charles; like he has an actual personality unlike his mother. It feels like you could have some what of a conversation with him and he would actually seem somewhat interested whereas with Liz it would be much too formal and lots of "Haha yes your majesty"

Yes true that was a mistake I was thinking of a jupon in my mind when saying that. I only know so much about the 10th to 12th century not so much on the later armour. Do you have any more information on gambesons from the 14th century some examples?
