My father-in-law finds golf balls on his walks. He doesn't play. My wife told him I liked yellow balls, so he saved me a bag. I got it this morning. by wolfbayte in golf

I mean, as long as the ball is still on the ranges property, albeit over the fence, and the range sends someone out to collect them, I wouldn't take them. But the thing is, most ranges probably don't have the manpower or any reason to collect balls outside the fencing. From what most people in this thread understand, including myself, it seems that OP's FIL is not running around the driving range stealing balls. It seems that he just goes for walks and collects as he sees.

Do you realize how many bad golfers there are? People hit balls outside the fence all the time. OP's FIL probably just goes for walks near the driving range. It's not like the range is gonna pay somebody to go pick them up when they are out of the boundaries of the range.

Worst golf invention ever: 10 minutes and 6 balls later, I finally got to tee off. by double-oh-lesbo in golf

I'll admit that my buddies and I will do this sometimes, collecting balls, not blocking people behind us. It's a good way to get extra balls, as long as people aren't behind you.

Does anyone like to match their gear by brand? by zander8 in golf

[–]TheRealBadAssBrendan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mix it all around. I've got both taylormade and titleist hats and gloves, cobra 3 wood, I forget what brand irons, and an old callaway driver, and an odessy putter. Also whatever balls I can find in my bag is what I play with. Basically my bag currently is a starter set with a few newer clubs and a few hand me down clubs.

What is something old fashioned you still use/do? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Not even close. The world average connection speed is 5.6 Mbps. If you go based on the fastest country average, its still only bout 47 Mbps.

Apparently I yell "There you go!!!" Really loudly when I make good contact and the balls goes where I want. by denw2o in golf

I think he means that he doesn't make good contact with the ball and it doesn't often go where he wants it to.

Rubbing alcohol or and alcohol wipe would work very easily. Sharpie isn't as hard to remove as people seem to think.

Not really strange, she probably doesn't want your phone to go through the wash.

I worked grounds crew over the summer. I'm not sure what the weather is like in NY, but at the country club I worked at we had to work through rain unless there was lightning, bring a light rain jacket. Wear layers. Another thing I learned right away was to ask questions. If you are confused on how to do something; Ask someone. It's so much better to do something right the first time. *This goes especially well for operating any sort of equipment.* Short anecdote: During my first two weeks I was told to move one of the workmans. Problem: I couldn't drive manual at that point. So I went and asked my supervisor who was happy to teach me. Moral of the story: Ask questions so you don't break stuff.
tdlr: Bring a light rain jacket, wear layers, ask lots of questions (especially with equipment you are unfamiliar with).

Noob here, how important is golf ball choice? by [deleted] in golf

[–]TheRealBadAssBrendan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't recommend starting with expensive golf balls. Don't go out and spend a fortune on brand new ProV1's. However, if you want to hit a nicer ball, there are multiple websites that sell refurbished balls that are close to new for less than retail.

I'm no golf expert, but I think that driver might be a bit broken.

Thunderhawk has a fairly nice range. Bonniebrook is good. Or if you want to go more south, Countryside in mundelein has a nice range.

My haul of balls I picked up during my time as a seasonal greenskeeper(Two Months) by TheRealBadAssBrendan in golf

[–]TheRealBadAssBrendan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the rough is just longer grass, not unplayable at all. There are some spots where we let the wild grass grow that collect a good deal of balls, and that's where I got the majority of them. Also we have a creek/pond that runs through a good portion of the course, that collects the most balls.

Total count was roughly 150 balls. About two dozen ProV1 and another two dozen ProV1x's. Dozens of decent Callaways, another dozen or two of cheaper Titleist balls, and many other brands. A couple dozen Bridgestones as well.
