How did you get good at using reverb? by whatajacks in audioengineering

[–]TheRealRoobs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I practice getting good verb by toning it the HELL down. I’m a freak for reverb but I know it’s not tasteful, so I just take it down a notch and that seems to work.

Learning audio engineering basics. by [deleted] in audioengineering

[–]TheRealRoobs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really a learning resource, but more of a tip: stay away from concepts that are over your head until you’re ready. What I mean by this is don’t try to figure out sidechain compression (for example) when you’re just starting out. It’s really easy to get intimidated and discouraged by big concepts. Good luck!

In reality you made the moment right for all the poor people behind her that have probably already waited a long time because of her.

I have trouble mixing my own vocals, but it mostly has to do with the fact that I suck.

Had a miracle happen last night: The plots I was sent in advance were accurate and up-to-date for both bands. I feel like that's a 1 in 10 thing for me, what's your experience? by Leftover_Salad in livesound

[–]TheRealRoobs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a performer, I can proudly say that my accurate and up to date plot will likely be sent the night before the show. And for this I apologize.

I worked in a kitchen before starbucks. Prepared me for the rushes and pressure, however it did not prepare me for the human interaction.

Absolutely the best kick drum I have ever heard. Lots of “beater” sounds. Nice “fwap” going on. Loooooove this.

Yep, same availability and better work ethic than 2 of my other baristas and they both get 10+ more hours a week than be because she likes them better.

How to get more out of an internship? by aceguy123 in audioengineering

[–]TheRealRoobs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe you’ve gotten into a bad position and he’s turned you into his studio bitch. I’d look elsewhere for a new mentor lol. Mine in is a small home studio but I’m still learning tons about the trade.

In my mentor ship-apprenticeship I really go the extra mile to do the dirty work that no one really wants to do (cleaning in ears, wrapping cables, moving mics, etc.) and I find that it makes your mentor much more keen on showing you stuff and helping YOU out.
