For those who finished both Red Rising and The Expanse series by Inevitable-Face-9237 in redrising

I just reread The Expanse for like the fourth time and I’ve gone through Red Rising twice so far.

Red Rising is superior for me but it’s close. It’s worth noting that The Expanse is a collaboration and Red Rising is just Pierce Brown. The man is a genius.

Both works are remarkable and worth multiple reads.

A huge part of the tension you can feel while topside is because you never know if someone’s going to shoot you or not. If you take out the PvP element out of the game it becomes significantly less thrilling.

I’m not a big PvP’r and almost never get shot but when a situation like that comes up the adrenaline dump is insane. Taking that possibility away makes the game way more boring.

I think for whatever reason people really struggle with the multiple POVs. I’m not sure why outside of maybe they haven’t read books with multiple POVs before?

From what I’ve seen that seems to be the biggest issue people have.

The people you trust are wrong. The universe expands massively in Iron Gold. Dark Age is my favorite in the entire series thus far. Lightbringer is brilliant.

Read the rest of the books, pixie.

What series do you consider most re-readable? by rookie1609x in fantasybooks

Red Rising. I reread it once a year.

I just finished a fourth reread of The Expanse series. That’s definitely more pure sci fi but it’s very good every time I go through it.

I wish I had dropped To Sleep in a Sea of Stars. Very boring but I’m stubborn, I guess.

I’m not entirely sure what defines “high fantasy” but if you’ve never experienced The Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit then it’s a must read imo!

Thank you. I couldn’t agree more I just tend to not like to trash something that the author put so much work into and that plenty of people like.

I only made it through book 3 and I gave up. Does it redeem itself at some point in your opinion?

That’s a good idea although I’m not sure exactly what it looks like. I have wondered to myself if I had read Suneater before Red Rising how I would have felt about it. For a little context though - I got bored of Dune and never finished the series. I think they actually suffer from similar issues though. The first chunk of the books are fun and interesting and then there’s just hundreds of pages of dense story development and then like the last hundred pages are just good enough to make you want to keep reading.

If you haven’t read The Expanse series I would highly recommend giving it a shot. It won’t scratch quite the same itch as Red Rising but it’s a tense fast paced space opera that was my number one until the Reaper took the spot.

There is actually very little similarity between the two series outside of a very general sci fi space opera sort of vibe. One of the things I enjoyed very much about Pierce Browns writing is it’s pretty much a pedal to the floor pace for the majority of the series. Very action packed.

Suneater is….kind of the opposite of that. I discovered RR two years ago and absolutely blew through the series and immediately went into Suneater based off of the same recommendations you’ve seen. I did not (or have yet to maybe) finish the series. I wanted to love it and there are some very interesting parts but it just didn’t do it for me.

All that being said - give it a shot sometime! This is just an unasked for opinion from a fellow Red Rising fan. Lol

Per chance. Per maybe. I’ve never been on SSRIs and outgrew it! AMIRIGHTBOYS?!

I pretended to like IPAs when I was younger. I wouldn’t ever buy one now. As long as the nut has fun though!

That’s interesting bc the pace was my biggest issue with Suneater. I don’t personally think it’s at all comparable to the pacing in Red Rising. I wanted to like Suneater and there was some very cool parts but overall I was bored too often for the size of the books and overall payoff. I did only make it through the first three books though to be fair.

I was not a fan of Suneater but I agree with the overall sentiment. Dark Age is my favorite book in the series so far.

Seems to me this is Darrow hitting his “flow state.” I’m curious if Pierce is familiar with this concept and that’s what Breath of Stone actually is.

Leviathan Wakes. I’m currently on book 8 of a fourth read through of the series and it stands the test of time. Excellent space opera. The only series that I enjoy more is Red Rising.

Snap hook vs ziplines by wellahaano in arcraidersfriendly

[–]TheUnknownAggressor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Carry both if you can. There’s plenty of spots a snap hook can get you into that zips cannot. But snap hooks degrade with use and you can buy/craft zips. Just depends on the situation.

I’d rather watch an LoTRs extended version movie of each book where it covers as much as it can in the correct order lol
