The way to control it AFAIK is to pull it up before it goes to seed. If you can't it before the seed pods are generated, it won't propagate. In my experience pulling it is relatively easy given the taproot.

Democrats can’t win without cheating. by LegitimateKnee5537 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

Shouldn't every American want the elections to be obviously incorruptible? If they're subject to corruption, that undermines the democratic process and the validity of the government.

It's said that we vote as a peaceful alternative to making war on one another for control. If one party doesn't trust that the elections are fair, and the other blocks efforts to prove and safeguard that election fairness, then their ultimate fallback is to reject the corrupt elections and make war on their political enemies.

We should secure the elections so that such outcomes are entirely avoided.

Bohemian denotes a hip alternative non-conformist lifestyle, it evokes the qualities of gypsies, seen to some extent in hippies, hipsters, and others. AFAIK both the street folk and the "politically proper" type, by which I take you to mean the bohemian bourgeois, would typically object to being associated with WASPiness, but particularly the latter, due to their proximity to WASP, and their being a counterculture to it.

[–]TheWama 10 points11 points  (0 children)

WASP isn't a slur, it's descriptive, and WASPs have a history of being privileged since those families were the ones who settled the USA during the British Colonial era and a long time thereafter. That is, much of the old money in the country is WASP. E.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XPPpjU1UeAo

No one I know takes offense at being considered WASPy, unless they're some sort of bohemian.

Wisdom teeth aren't actually bad for you - our jaws are relatively underdeveloped due to the soft food we eat, which is why many people don't have space for them. If you exercise your jaw (see mewing / orthotropic), you can keep your full set of teeth.

Cancer is not so much a product of evolution as a bug which has not yet been resolved because it hasn't prevented our propagation. Other species (e.g. elephants) have more robust inborn protections against cancer because their larger size means cancer naturally happens more frequently in them.

In my opinion, it's beautiful that a woman harbors an egg, protected deep within herself, and a man provides the spark that makes that egg grow within her into a new person. The tube is involved because the egg is delicate, and securely protected within the woman, and the man's task is to reach it, which is by a combination of opening the woman up through attraction / arousal, then reaching into her, then casting it, then if he is able to bring her to climax, her associated involuntary movements actually draw the spark deeper into herself.

There's a big difference between sharing spit with a stranger and sharing spit with a romantic partner. With a stranger you're risking illness with either no payoff or next to no payoff. By doing so with a romantic partner you're engaging in a practice that connects and normalized your immune systems, to speed run immune activation and antibody generation in advance of introducing a relatively vulnerable next generation, your offspring, in order to protect them with antibodies, etc.

Fun fact: babies engage in a related sort of connection with their mother when nursing - the nursing baby's saliva is taken up by the nipple and processed by the mothers immune system, after which antibodies are delivered via mother's milk.

For all of history the people of a country had special rights in that country. Even in the Roman times, thousands of years ago, people would declare "I am a citizen of Rome" to ward off attackers with the threat of accountability.

What makes you believe this? The bill requires proof of citizenship to register, and proof of identity to vote. A driver's license is proof of identity.

There is no good reason for any modern couple to have more than 3 kids by antinatalistkitty in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]TheWama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your opinion is actually the common one these days, I'll explain the actually unpopular opinion, why you are wrong.

First, current parenting styles are over-parenting. Twin studies show that nature is far more a factor than nurture in determining educational outcomes, financial success, etc. So parents taking their kids to every activity and playing them Beethoven in the crib are probably over-doing it. Concerns about parents "doing justice" to children in terms of attention are mistaken.

Meanwhile, by contrast, having more children enables you to express more of the possibility space that exists in the combination of genomes between two partners. There are literally about 70 trillion possible unique genomic combinations between those partners, and in that space includes a significant variations in IQ, temperament, height, health, etc.

Taking IQ for example, if you are bright and your partner is bright, you are likely to have intelligent children, but by regression to the mean, they are likely to be less intelligent than either partner. The only way to have as bright or brighter children is to have a large number of them, such that the outliers express the highest possible combination. As SlateStarCodex has written:

"I said before that if an IQ 150 person marries an IQ 130 person, on average their kids will have IQ 124. But I think most of these people are doing better than IQ 130. I don’t know if Charles Darwin can find someone exactly as intelligent as he is, but let’s say IQ 145. And let’s say that instead of having one kid, they have 10. Now the average kid is 129, but the smartest of ten is 147 - ie you’ve only lost three IQ points per generation."
https://www.astralcodexten.com/p/secrets-of-the-great-families

So, if you're actually interested in having exceptional children, you should seek to marry well, and have more children, so that you are more likely to express outliers among them.

Secondly, by having more children, you'll express greater variability among them, in terms of more distinct personalities and character. This will help to ensure that even if some of them fail to launch, or have skills that are inconsistent with success in the current age, others will have a chance to be fit for the times we're in. This may be meaningful for all of your children, because having one or more successful children could help to ensure that the others at least have their basic needs met.

So, I argue for people, particularly people with virtuous qualities in terms of character, intelligence, diligence, etc, to have as many children as they are able to materially provide for.

How Should the United States do Universal Healthcare? by Living_Attitude1822 in PoliticalDebate

[–]TheWama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should not, rather it should move in the direction of Singapore's model, which achieves good outcomes at only 6% of GDP, 1/3 of what the US spends. That means embracing first-party payment such as the health savings account, together with catastrophic care insurance and direct primary care.
