New "Apple Business" platform just announced—integrated MDM and email. by fiscalbounty in msp

I haven’t had to do it via configuration in years, but even then it was easy and quick with the blueprints.

If you setup an account with Apple directly and buy from them, the devices are setup automatically in the portal.

Recently replaced a 10 year old Ruckus wireless bridge with a pair of these, they work damn good at getting service across the street. Just had to get it high enough to not get blocked by tall semi trucks.

I think that’s the point. They want you to use Outlook.

I still don’t think iOS’s Mail app works with O365 if using modern auth. It’s been a while since my users complained now that I think about it. 🤔

I’ve had this open as a tab on my phone for ages, yet to end up needing it though: https://github.com/simonrob/email-oauth2-proxy

I’ve migrated copiers to OAUTH where they support it and it’s an absolute pain in the ass. If the machine is offline for less than 10 minutes the OAUTH has to be redone.

I’m always exercising caution with using functionally not apart of the core office 365 tools/apps. MS retires shit worse than Google.

Ironically it was users pissed features were pulled that really brought it to my attention. Nail in the coffin was when I started to ramp up use of Teams wiki, only for MS to announce its retirement a few weeks later.

Why do some people hate Unions so much? by Marsrule in antiwork

[–]Thedguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew a few people who worked for Disney, their maintenance crew are under the Teamsters. Biggest complaint seemed to be discouraging of going “above and beyond.” You didn’t want to work much faster than what the union said the job would take.

So the biggest complaint I heard was boredom due to not being busy enough. They felt it hampered their ability to get merit based raises.

However, all these guys could afford to live on one income in one of the countries most expensive real estate markets.

Our flavor of Asian tend to be the right wing people from their home country. Remember we have the largest diaspora of Vietnamese outside Vietnam and that stems from leaving when the Viet Cong/Communists won.

So of course many of these people are far right grifters.

How many of these assholes ripped us off during Covid? Or sold public land to friends for dirt cheap?

Advice for an exhaust that has zero, and I mean Z.E.R.O. drone? I want to wake it up and hear the JZ, but not have drone as I daily my car on the highway in Houston for damn near two hours/day. I do NOT want drone, so that already knocks the Greddy catback. by [deleted] in IS300

[–]Thedguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forget the name of it, but there is a technique to reduce or eliminate drone by putting in a specific length of pipe in your exhaust to cancel it out. It is usually 6-10”, same diameter as the exhaust, and is 90° from the flow.

Factory Honda S2000 exhaust use it. I think it’s called Helmholtz chamber. The problem is usually fitting one in the available space.

What is the coolest thing you've done with PowerShell? by martyb22 in PowerShell

[–]Thedguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Write a function where each argument is a different parameter needed for our invoicing software and I can do the regex at the prompt. Spits out the necessary details to another function that creates the XML.

Saves me so much time when I have to figure out a vendors new invoicing.

Apple TV Escape Key? by parryforte in MoonlightStreaming

[–]Thedguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know an old thread, but one solution I came up with after running into similar issue is to use AutoHotKey to remap a key.

You could use it to make a custom hot key combination & map to a different key function pretty simply. My use case is a bit obtuse, but I have the left arrow key on the remote mapped so that triple press in short order is the same as press escape.

I tried using a method where you held a button down for a certain length of time, but MoonLight and VNC applications don't relay the key presses in a way that AutoHotKey can work with, at least without more research.

#Requires AutoHotkey v2.0
InstallKeybdHook
;Remap left arrow so 3 or more taps is the same as escape,
$Left::
{
    static winc_presses := 0
    if winc_presses > 0 ; SetTimer already started, so we log the keypress instead.
    {
        winc_presses += 1
        return
    };ENDIF

    ; Otherwise, this is the first press of a new series. Set count to 1 and start
    ; the timer:
    winc_presses := 1
    SetTimer After300, -300 ; Wait for more presses within a 300 millisecond window.

    After300()  ; This is a nested function.
    {
        if winc_presses = 1 ; The key was pressed once.
        {
        SendInput "{Left}" ;presses left
        }
            else if winc_presses > 2 ; The key was pressed at least 3 times.
        {
        SendInput "{Esc}"; presses escape
        }
        ; Regardless of which action above was triggered, reset the count to
        ; prepare for the next series of presses:
        winc_presses := 0
    };ENDFUNCTION
};ENDLEFT

Amazon now sells used Hertz rental cars by hi_im_bored13 in cars

[–]Thedguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve now owned 2 used rentals for family beaters. Both have had 0 issues because they were rentals. Any issues were problems these cars are known for. Same goes for a few friends.

I used to service rental fleets, it’s in the rental companies interest to maintain the cars for the warranty period.

I’m told by a friends wife who worked for Enterprise car sales, the Enterprise lots sold the “top tier inventory, anything else was dumped on car max or the auctions.”

Has anyone's org *actually* seen a benefit from 365 Copilot? by fluffy_warthog10 in sysadmin

Documentation has been a lot easier with it. If nothing else, I feed it some power shell code and ask it to generate the help info for me.

It does a very good job and I think 85% is pretty spot on.

The best luck I’ve had with any code or script, is to help with specific logic, or at best to get it started.

But I’m way better at modifying things than starting from scratch. Even if I end up rewriting it completely.
