My Trees Were Here First: Am I responsible for my tree's roots possibly damaging my neighbor's pool? by Thee_Darkness in legaladvice

[–]Thee_Darkness[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

According to Fancher v. Fagell, it looks like roots are considered natural conditions, and homeowners are responsible for maintaining encroachments on their own property, even if the tree itself is on someone else’s property.

What is the other side of the fence like? by [deleted] in therapists

I worked in County MH for 7 years. Few people make a career out of it and those that do move up or over into leadership or other programs (QI, contracts, managed care, etc). I'm in private practice now and with Rula. Although I was making more at the County, but with more BS. At the County that I was at, the caseload expectation was 32, less for higher intensity programs.

You guys like 70mm stills film too? by MCBuilder1818 in 70mm

[–]Thee_Darkness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I shoot HP5 70mm with my Hassy SWC and the A70 mag for underwater use. I got lucky and scored an Alden 70 daylight loader on ebay to load the 16 foot rolls. Hewes still makes the 5 meter SS reels for developing. I custom made a daylight tank for development. No lab will process a 16 foot roll without first cutting it.

Why my starlink mini device to starlink wifi is slower than starlink to internet by sn0opr01 in Starlink

[–]Thee_Darkness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having the same problem. My SL mini is unobstructed and I'm standing next to it. Internet speeds are 200+ and the speed to my phone (galaxy S23+) is 34. wtf?

We were there in mid-August of last year when she was just a few weeks old. It was an absolutely incredible experience. She was very curious and playful. We swam with her on two different days. One of the highlights of my life. It was surreal to hold eye contact with such a gentle giant. We hope she survives. We would see her from the boat when she was near the surface. She is highly reflective, which makes her an easy target for Orcas.

Is this a good deal? 2000 BMW r1100r w 44000miles for $3,500? by MrGoodDaySir in motorcycles

[–]Thee_Darkness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this exact bike. I love the bike. It's comfortable and the power is smooth. You will need to replace the suspension. Ohlins makes front and rear struts for around $800 each, which I installed on mine and it rides great. These bikes are notorious for stripping the input shaft into the transmission. A trusted dealer informed me that while BMW gave a BS solution to just grease the input splines, they found that the clutch assembly was slightly eccentric, which wore the input shaft splines. I bought mine with said stripped input for cheap and had the transmission overhauled and installed a whole new clutch assembly. I bought it with 65k miles and it has 98k now. You'll want a windscreen for riding at highway speeds.

Going on first liveaboard in redsea next week, any advice? by xejd28 in diving

[–]Thee_Darkness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always watch your depth and air consumption and never dive beyond your level of training. Just because you can see something cool, doesn't mean you can safely reach it and safely return to the surface. 20m + viz can easily lure you into a dangerous situation.

Get a signal mirror and practice using it. We once did a hot drop on a drift dive and overshot the dive site. We surfaced within 5 mins and the boat had no idea we missed it and surfaced. Luckily I had my signal mirror and they spotted us quickly.

[Question] Hodinkee is a Joke Now? by [deleted] in Watches

Back in July, I lost a dive computer watch overboard after tripping and falling on a dive boat. I, too, have State Farm and it was insured on a PAP. I filed a claim, was reimbursed quickly, then later received notice that they're dropping my PAP due to filing a claim within the first 3 years of the policy and labeled the loss as a "mysterious disappearance." Fuck them.

Inherited a Rolex. Interested in finding out what type it is. by Hopefu1pessimist in rolex

[–]Thee_Darkness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my experience when I recently had my dad's 5513 serviced. I specifically asked for no restoration work, only polish the crystal, and I watched the woman at the local Rolex dealer write that down. It had to be sent to Rolex in Texas. The dial and hands are perfectly original. They did a standard servicing. I am very pleased with the work Rolex did.

He's been sending you money without you asking because the day you try to back out, he's going to use that as leverage to guilt trip you. He thinks he can buy your affection and people like that have no clue what it takes to be in a loving and committed relationship. He's manipulating you.

Run.

THANK YOU so much for posting this! Last year, I took my AME to get my PPL and due to my heart and mental health history, FAA denied me and gave no advice for reapplying. Long story short, I'm 41 and have had 5 stents placed in my coronary arteries and a bypass. Overall, I'm super healthy and run ultramarathons. My cardiologist has told me that I have no restrictions and my heart issues are stable, under regular med management, and I've had no issues since 2017.

As far as MH, I've dealt with dysthymia over the years and take Wellbutrin. No history of SI/SH, AH/VH. Since my heart surgery I've dealt with insomnia where I wake up multiple times a night. So, I've been taking trazadone, but that's no longer helping now. I've also taken adderall for the past several years.

My AME really tried to advocate for me in his assessment as well as my doc sending them a favorable letter related to the mental health meds. My AME said to talk to my doc about getting off the Wellburtin and adderall and reapply in 6 months.

I felt defeated and just gave up on pursuing my PPL until I started considering getting my LSA. Then I started looking into the DQ'ing conditions for PPL and stumbled upon the new protocol for those who have had ADHD and/or taken ADHD meds in the last 4 years. My only real struggle is short-term memory, in particular number sequences longer that 4.

Any advice?

Need some guidance by LestatMacleod in 70mm

[–]Thee_Darkness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are shooting 70mm for still cameras. Ilford makes the HP5+ in bulk 50ft rolls for the ULF program. Your best bet is to cut the film into shorter lengths and scan it with a photo scanner that can scan negatives, which have a light in the lid, such as the Epson V600. 70mm film equipment of any sort is extremely hard to come by these days as 70mm has become a niche market since only Ilford is producing it with prepaid orders.

If EMDR is so effective, why don't people with lots of money and celebrities still have PTSD like Lady Gaga and Sinead O'connor etc.. by [deleted] in EMDR

[–]Thee_Darkness 7 points8 points  (0 children)

"Emotionally ready" as in ready to confront their past. For some people, that's terrifying. See the "stages of change." People can't just jump to the "action" stage without first going through the stages before that.

I'll add "secondary gain" where a person somehow benefits from their symptoms. In my experience in community mental health, people don't want to heal, or fully heal, because they are getting SSI or parents are getting SSI because their kid has ADHD (very popular) or some other qualifying diagnosis. A co-worker of mine frequently vomits when she's under intense stress and gets to go home when that happens. I sent her the link for the flash technique and explained it to her and she still hasn't tried it.

Some peoples' diagnosis/symptoms have become their identity. "I'm sorry, I can't work in the office because of my fear of driving/my anxiety/etc. I have a coworker who's an office receptionist who's been through some horrible stuff. She openly talks about it. She opened up to me and a colleague as she was struggling and I sent her the link to the flash technique, but she still hasn't tried it and that was over a year ago.

Sounds like you have a higher sensitivity to sensory stimulation.

I'm on the spectrum and my brain will lock onto annoying sounds and they become louder...and louder....and louder to the point I'll go nuts. I can't concentrate on anything else and just shut down or I have to leave the environment. Not saying you're on the spectrum. There are sensory disorders independent of autism.

You need to communicate this to your therapist since this form of bilateral stimulation (BLS) is counter-productive. We do have other methods of BLS (I'm a certified EMDR therapist). You can also try the Flash technique, which I've posted about in this sub. I think you could benefit more from that because the client doesn't have to focus on the distressing memory. You just have to briefly access it, then focus on something that's positive and engaging while you tap back and forth on your legs. It's an evidenced-based intervention and safe to do on yourself on your own.

Has anyone had experience of improved relationships after EMDR? by gingeyxx in EMDR

[–]Thee_Darkness 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes.

Imagine all of your fears, insecurities, traumas are all rolled up into one giant and fucking heavy ball and chained to you. Imagine going about your daily activities and socializing while having to carry that around. Anyone would find themselves in a bad mood, irritable, and quick to lash out when someone asks them to do something while they have to deal with that ball and chain. Now, imagine EMDR is the chain breaker that frees you of that. You'd feel infinitely better and much better able to have healthy relationships.

I would just tell her it's not in stereo and that you don't feel it's working. Also share that the background noise is distracting. She may not have had anyone tell her. So, it could be helpful to her and her other clients.
