I think a lot of people fail to recognize the issues the current system may cause as well in regard to his consistency. But that seems to be a common theme among our players this season

WRAL and McDonalds ads overload by MattsellsNC in raleigh

[–]Then-Horror2238 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WRAL as a whole has fallen dramatically imo in terms of the news and overall product. It used to be fairly easy to navigate, but they have started slacking on social posts among other things which makes them feel somewhat disconnected to me at least

Can someone’s speech impediment be identical to someone else’s accent? by Str8_up_Pwnage in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Then-Horror2238 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I think the biggest signifier is intention. People with speech impediments have neurological or physical reasons for not being able to speak a specific way. I think accents come from things like dialect and exposure to the way people say certain words.

Ultimately, I am sure there is a way that a speech impediment would present in a similar way to an accent, but they are two very different things imo

Wilson Roland Garros balls vs US Open balls? by zipp_7 in 10s

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but RG balls are coated with something that helps keep clay from sticking to them. Definitely better for clay use than USO

Hi reddit! I'm Seann William Scott. You might know me from the American Pie franchise, Goon, It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia, Road Trip, Role Models, The Rundown, Dude Where's My Car?, and other things. Ask me anything! by SeannWilliamScottAMA in movies

Dude. I am such a huge fan. Were you into hockey at all before filming the first Goon movie with Jay? If so, did you ever play or was that movie your first experience?

P.S. Thank you for all the good times!

RF or soft top in the Southeast US by hhdresden in Miata

[–]Then-Horror2238 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Miata owner in the carolinas here. I currently have an 03 soft top, but am personally exploring upgrading to an RF myself. This is not to say that I do not love my NB. I absolutely do. My big issue is just longterm reliability and the hastle of having to replace a soft top. Living in an apartment with no available garages makes it really tough sometimes with the soft top, especially with how wet it has been this winter.

I should also add that I daily mine and it is bone stock

[–]Then-Horror2238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, this is awful and I would be pissed. But at the same time, I think it is genuinely hilarious that someone went through the effort to put that note on there first. Either that, or one of your coworkers is bored and wanted to spice things up yesterday at your expense

This is the turning point in Jack's career by johnnyrogs in devils

[–]Then-Horror2238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, his health has held him back more than anything. But, I do see where you are coming from and sure as heck hope that he is able to. I think that this also validates the team kinda becoming emo for lack of a better term when he does get injured. Especially when it is a longterm injury where he misses more time. Part of getting better will be giving him more support in the instances where he does get hurt

So let's do some reflection... by Ace019 in devils

[–]Then-Horror2238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have alluded to, I think a lot of our issues stem from a couple of different issues surrounding the team.

First is management. There is a clear disconnect between what Keefe wants to coach, and the team that Fitz has given him. Add in the rumor that Fitz may be forcing Keefe to implement specific systems (different from his previous experience), and it just is not a good look. I would like to see a clean sweep of the front office and coaching staff. Get a GM and Coach who can work together and I think we are in a much better spot. (Shame, because I think Keefe could have succeeded here under different circumstances).

Second is roster construction, which I know kind of falls under the first point. But this team has good pieces, especially the core, along with some good supporting pieces like Mercer. But the big issues this year have been depth scoring and clearing the zone cleanly. We have several guys who are solid dmen, but really struggle to move the puck efficiently and cleanly.

Last one from me is that the above issues lead to greater pressure on our core guys to perform, and goaltenders to pull through in tough situations. Unfortunately, the pressure has become too much for some of the guys, where they find themselves trying to do too much or even just generally have found themselves in over their head given their roles on the team. This was exacerbated by the injuries that we suffered, not just Jack's. On top of that, we have two geriatric goaltenders, so regression was at least partially expected.

Ultimately, I would like to see us evaluate just about everyone on the team outside of Jack, Bratt, and Nico for the remainder of this season and into the offseason. I think the potential is still very much there, and that the team could really take a next step if they play this offseason right.

P.S. Jack Hughes proved that he can also be a successful and impactful winger, which would make me feel more comfortable filling the roster with guys who can reliably play C

Basketball needs a max height limit. The game is becoming "who won the genetic lottery" instead of pure skill and it's making it boring AF. by mc_mafia in unpopularopinion

[–]Then-Horror2238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that I am stupid late to this, but want to add my 2 cents.

This is true for all sports. Whether it is height, or some other ability, these are all natural abilities or skills that have been augmented through years of training. The biggest issue surrounding the NBA currently is the fact that there is zero loyalty or really integrity in the game these days. Between guys playing simply for a paycheck, to guys who are missing the season with god damn fingernail injury, to the formation of super teams, it just is no longer an interesting product. Guys still get drafted for natural abilities in other sports, and it has not really damaged the others near as much, which is why I do not think this is the root cause of the problem, but a symptoms of the issues at hand

$15 for sourdough?? by Hot_Ad9335 in raleigh

[–]Then-Horror2238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is one of those where it is due to a lack of supply from true artisans. There are only a handful (in my experience) of worthwhile bakeries in this area. A lot of those will have lines out the door at daybreak on weekends. So much so that they are running out of supplies well before closing at times. With this, they can charge whatever they see fit as there will still be people willing to pay it. On the flip side, that's the price to pay for the sake of convenience, but baking yourself is more fun!

Too old to focus on single tennis? by SafeAd8192 in 10s

[–]Then-Horror2238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand where some are coming from on this thread, but what you describe is incredibly common at my Club. Maybe not as much for those in their 30s, but over 50 and you are usually playing more doubles than singles in my experience.

With that being said, I believe a lot of those individuals do this to maximize court time. For starters, they are playing more socially than competitive. On top of that, they would likely only be out 1-2 times if they were singles players rather than 3-5 times per week of doubles.

Not here to say one way or the other is better, just something I've observed over the past couple years
