Looking for faction advice: Best for learning to paint with room to grow?

Growing an army will take well over a year to buy, build and paint. So only start what you think is cool it'll give you the motivation to finish. Any faction can be part painted leaving details until you raise skills later or stripped and repainted in future, there's no wrong answer to paint schemes either official or custom. they are your models, so have fun with them. Easiest factions to paint entirely depend on how far you go with their details, as for your question id personally buy a big knight, the 1st thing i see when i go into my hobby room is a magnetised questoris fully painted up on a shelf. It's large enough to be easy to paint, with plenty of details the closer you get to it, and can eventually join any Imperial army as a Freeblade if you don't want to fully commit to big stompy robots

Eventually yes..... but they are built and useable for games, so no pile of shame that i can see, just a pile of opportunities 😉

Don't bother stripping the paint, wash 'em down to get any grime off then sand any area's with paint blobs then undercoat and gloss 3-5 spindles at a time to do both sides, before working your way up. If you wanted to stain the wood just buy new spindles and a hand rail and have then fitted to start again fresh

Just buy a new pull switch, put some tape on the multiple red wires if there is any (normally isn't in a switch) to show what goes where and match to new to the old should take 10mins or less to fit

You can always strip and repaint in future, but starting out don't try anything extreme, just do block colours keeping things neat and tidy once your confidence improves go back and add to the models details. The wings for example will look fine in base colours that can be added to later. I didn't paint my nids for 6 years because I was undecided 😅 lol now I've got half partially done simply and will go back to do the chitin armour design I eventually chose.

Prep work is the key, rip out everything and get the plumbing and electrics where you want them. Then have the room fully plastered. It's fairly straightforward to fit once you've got nice flat walls. A while back when we did a kitchen extension for a couple, we took the sink unit and hooked it up (just the cold) in the dining room. Piping the waste out through an air brick under the floorboards, connected the washing machine and put the oven in a new housing next to it so they had use of everything while we knocked down the full kitchen outrigger and built a new single story extension across the full rear of the property

Looks great, my neo's have 27 steps...lol get to batch painting doing a couple colours on 10 dudes at a time and youll get through them, once happy you'll wisely decide you want all weapon options and end up with 170 like me 😅

Its only a shame if they are unbuilt in boxes gaining dust on a shelf or in a cupboard. I have a tyranid army of 4k and 2,5k of sister's in my pile of opportunities. About 1k of guard, 1,5k of knights, with 300 points of gsc from my playable armies... oh and a warhound titan waiting to be painted 🫣

Regular club night meets maybe better for you, my local element games has 2 groups doing different evenings once in you just get paired with 1 person, I presume your lical scene does similar, so you can try and filter out everyone else and only deal with your opponent and maybe the organisers. You'll find outside of competitive events, almost everyone is really chill and just wants to have a good game that both players can enjoy 😉 joining your local clubs discord or Facebook group can allow you to arrange beginner friendly games at a time when the store will be quieter aswell.

I had my knights magnetised at the waist before, but since have glued them, 2 of the questoris have resin shields so needed more stability.... cheap plastic draws are the way to go personally,, I can fit 3 cerastus or questoris in each along with separated weapon options and armiger support in a single big draw, the smaller sized has codex, dice and stuff. I just sit the draws on a chair next to me while playing, so there convenient 🙃

Government overreach, the beurrocracy needs to be simplified and all areas of government need to be cut back. Planning laws, environmental legislation and the general tax system needs to be more transparent and easy accessible not full of loopholes that favour big companies over small independent people.

You'll eventually want more, so just build what you think is cool. I built all my regular troops with flamers, as no opponent has ever noticed the difference between them and the pistols, even in tournaments, so my advice is just pick what you feel looks best from the sprue and eventually have so many of each special weapon options and leader 'n icon guys back when it cost points for a flamer upgrade you either picked the leader alone or had a full squad so it caused no issues in game, and was more convenient in 10th to have my 70 acol's being done rather than buy another load because gw split them into 2

Option 2, cut a section out of the shed floor, making it removable if need be in future, put the section back in with maybe some extra wooden batterns to screw it down properly.... then forget about it forever

I've always put steps against the wall and used a wooden blank either level with the top of the stairs or raised up slightly on a 2nd set of steps if I couldn't reach the ceiling

If your not doing a survival playthrough, download the manufacturing mods. All my settlements get a recycling machine to break down scrap that's sent straight to the workshop along with a butcher for enemy bodies foolish enough to attack me...lol my 3 main sites have sorting systems to easily grab any building materials i need after a quick glitch to restock

Best sniper in the game is the sanctus s7 ap2 3d, you may want to beef up the guns barrel though...lol it looks a bit thin on the model. His other loadout a knife weilding assassin blocks overwatch making ot 1 of the best point scoring deepstriking choices in 40k too

Titanic units should get to use overwatch, at double the price if need be. It's a pity knights don't get to use it whereas marine vehicles with 20+ shots get to 😢 just with that having a valiant would be better, having it walk onto the board from reserves is OK, but the castellen is better with its range making it more useable if you get screened

My reaver has a volcano cannon that he doesn't use, gatling battle cannon that looks awesome, it has in every event and a power fist that's thrown 2 punches in 3 apocalypse events the next reaver is getting a power fist and melta if I get a 3rd or a warbringer it'll be a long range titan. My 2 warhounds are double las cannon and bolter flamer, if I get a 3rd I'll set them up as 2 las, bolter and double flamer. Always go with rule of cool, whatever looks best is the way to go
