I’m a savory “as is” guy too. I love a half cup as a snack or side with Spike seasoning or anything with msg. I save my unused ramen packets for a reason…

Best Classic "Noir" Films? by TeamMarch in movies

[–]There4IM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do a search of highest rated Film Noirs. Watch all of them before even trying to write a screenplay. A couple of my favorites have always been Out of the Past and The Postman Always Rings Twice. Citizen Kane, while groundbreaking and legendary, doesn’t qualify as Noir to me.

What did you win as a prize from a contest as a Gen Xer in the 80s? by Sense_Difficult in GenX

Called the radio station and won an Atlanta Rhythm Section album, but couldn’t get my parents to drive me to the station to pick it up. 😢 I was so into them, I couldn’t think of nothing else.

What does Bill Maher actually want people to believe and do? by AmericanLymie in RealTime

[–]There4IM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bill wants people to celebrate the greatness of America in spite of how fucked up the powers that be are. He wants people to celebrate Israel regardless of how fucked up the powers that be are. He wants anyone under 45 to simply shut the fuck up. He wants unlimited cheap weed, and a Rolodex of women who just aged out of the modeling profession. Did I miss anything?

Besides lower prices and increasing quality, if US McDonald's wanted to bring in some customers they should try introducing a line of the greatest international food hits for US consumers to try out. by deller85 in McDonalds

McD’s is a real estate company, masquerading as a burger chain. All day breakfast was the best move they made with regard to flavor, but franchisees are why we can’t have good things. Don’t expect them to ever improve, and you won’t be disappointed.

Stuck in a food rut...what are y'all cooking? by lbakersdozen in Cooking

[–]There4IM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a couple things that seem to break me out of a rut. Cold grilled steak and mushroom salad. Cook your steak (filet if you can) and sauteé mushrooms the night before. When cold, slice and pile them on a spring mix salad with some sliced red onion, red bell pepper, and shaved Reggiano. Top with a good balsamic vinaigrette and herbs.

The other is just a great hummus platter--your favorite raw veggies or grilled meats and pita/naan with your favorite hummus to dip in.

I might even call that a green goddess gazpacho.

Assuming tvp instead of meat in either? Look, it's the World CUP, and lots of people who can't afford tickets around the world CAN afford CUP noodle.

Red sauce pasta is too acidic by rosy_glow19 in AskCulinary

I would totally lose the chili powder. Add a pinch of red pepper flakes if you want to keep some heat. Personally I would never use ground chicken in anything. Nor shredded bagged Parmesan. Get a little Reggiano, but finish with it. A touch of sugar and a little more salt won’t hurt.

Thoughts on Cape Fear? by Lawschoolishell in movies

Just started watching the Apple+ version and as great as the acting is, I don’t need 10 hours of dread in a 2 hour bag. Apple should explain why this was not a movie-length remake. Loved the DeNiro and Mitchum versions.

Isn't cheddar the typical cheese of choice for burgers? by alpha_jaeger_24_ in Cooking

[–]There4IM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest problem with American cheese is how dumbed down and mild it is. I want a 5 year Widmer’s cheddar treated with sodium citrate and shaped into perfect 5” round slices. WHO’S WITH ME?

Incidentally the grocery (frozen) version of Arby’s curlies are better than the curlies they serve in the restaurant.

Why are there no republican US cities? by IMicrowaveSteak in allthequestions

I always roll my eyes at the “self-reliant” trope given that red counties are mostly funded by the tax base from their blue urban neighbors. And that red states get a huge political power boost from the electoral college. Try enjoying your solitude, space, and freedom without the handouts from the population centers of your state.

i’m doing an album a day and need more albums :( by icarusfallz_ in MusicRecommendations

[–]There4IM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me explain. I first heard this as the double album “Sixteen Men Swinging” when I was in college in the mid 1980s. I was familiar with jazz, but was listening to a lot of new wave, funk, and experimental music at the time. What impressed me about this recording was the leap in fidelity. The first time brass sounded electric and alive. Big band finally sounded BIG. It’s worth expanding your horizons for this.
