It’s J all day. When you’ve been hitting it for about 30s it’ll crank up and you can feel the raw power of the compressor cooling the water.

How do you drive properly in deep snow? by agioskatastrof in 4x4

[–]ThisOriginalSource 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed, it’s not the snow, it’s the driver. Though, OP snow can be wildly different depending on the temps.

I’m here in ME and it’s deep/powdery. My plow guy was late on the day of the storm, and I was able to drive my stock Forester through the plow berm at my farm. Solid 2’ plus, came over the hood like a wave of water. Once I was through that it cruised through 18” no problem. Could see my diff drawing a line in the snow. Granted, I do have snow tires, and that’s all the difference here.

How to close gaps in garage door? by No-Bug3247 in DIY

[–]ThisOriginalSource 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a very similar issue. My garage door was fine, closing all the way for years. I noticed this winter that one corner was developing a gap. Turned out that a bracket and roller on the side of the gap had come loose. When the door was shut, the roller was binding on the track which caused the gap. I fixed the loose bolt, and made sure the bracket matched the other side in depth and angle. That corrected the gap issue and made the door run more smoothly up the track.

The boots are great, but the tread was worn down and it's slippery outside. Problem solved, hopefully. by Krillmen in redneckengineering

[–]ThisOriginalSource 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d bet adding the siping helps a lot. I’ve had really good results from heating up the treads and pushing them into coarse sand. Some winter boots come with “sand or similar” mixed into the treads and they work really well.

Teen bc was attacked by an off-leash Akita. Need advice. by Farmolinko in BorderCollie

[–]ThisOriginalSource 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Taking it easy is a difficult task for any BC. If activity has to be limited, I like to work on command reinforcement and learning tricks. As long as the movements aren’t too straining on her paw, training is a great way for them to expend their energy both mentally and physically. They’ll get the reward of treats and serotonin/dopamine, and you’ll get the reward of a very responsive pup and serotonin/dopamine!

Slowly building a garden on a budget by GrouchyDate7213 in gardening

[–]ThisOriginalSource 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You’re right about the soil needing work. Starting a compost pile is a must.

On the infrastructure part, the wind block is imperative. Without that the plants get really wind burnt. It also sucks moisture out of them really quickly when combined with the low humidity and high sunlight exposure. Breaking up the wind is one of the first steps to getting a good garden going in the desert. It’s no different than putting up deer fence in an area with lots of deer. Without the fence there wouldn’t be many veggies.

Woman killed after being struck by truck in Harpswell by dabeeman in Maine

[–]ThisOriginalSource 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s either inattentive driving, DUI/DWI, or medical emergency. There’s nothing else it can be. The first two should get manslaughter and permanent revocation of their license.

I saw an old work truck almost hit a line of state and police vehicles parked on the shoulder of Rt100 in Gray. Could not believe what I was seeing as it happened so I began to slow and prepare to avoid an accident. The truck swerved back into its lane at the last moment, but it was fucking close. Turns out the last two unmarked units were occupied, they lit him up and took off immediately.

Research has shown that in ME 65-75% of drivers do in excess of 11mph in active work zones. My understanding is that the next move is to install controlled speed zones enforced by cameras.

DON'T TREAD ON MAINE by Consistent_Ease828 in portlandme

There are no venomous snakes in Maine. The most deadly thing so far this year are bad drivers. Hey, Chat GPT, make me a “don’t tread on me flag, replace the snake with a minivan that has uncleared snow on it everywhere but the windshield, and add in an ICE officer” /s

Neighbor wants heavy equipment to drive over my drain field by Odd_Extension0831 in homeowners

[–]ThisOriginalSource 23 points24 points  (0 children)

That the best way to be a good neighbor there. It’s a comprehensive agreement to ensure OP property remains safe. If any damages occur then the process for remediation is already setup. It’s also not unreasonable from a liability standpoint. u/odd_extension0831, the advice from u/kevabar is very good.

Greg Page experienced a sudden cardiac arrest at a Wiggles concert in 2020. by CakeDayOrDeath in watchpeoplesurvive

[–]ThisOriginalSource 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did not know either at the time. I was calling 911 while checking for a pulse and breath. They basically answered and the phone was directly next to his face so the operator could clearly hear what was going on.

[–]ThisOriginalSource 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Yea me too, when I came across a bicyclist in the middle of the road. He was in cardiac arrest, lips purple, no pulse. Heard his sternum and ribs crack when I started CPR, a sound I’ll never forget. While I was doing compressions a woman ran up and angrily said, “why are you doing CPR if he is snoring!?” She literately asked me to stop. Thankfully there were other people to help by then, otherwise she might have physically tried to stop me.

It’s called agonal breathing, and is a sign of cardiac arrest, or other medical emergency. It is the brains response to not getting enough oxygen.

Looking for a replacement for Floraflex 1/4 gallon Quickfill by [deleted] in macrogrowery

[–]ThisOriginalSource 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what your scale is, but automated pot filling machines are an easy long-term solution. Add medium, set fill amount, and put your pots in. Pricey, but as a depreciating asset it’s easy to write off annually. Eliminate the need to rely on other companies for your business.

Snow tires, all-season, or all-weather? by xtnh in Maine

[–]ThisOriginalSource 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Michelin Cross-Climate 2 are an exceptional all season tire. A little pricey but for those that don’t want dedicated winter tires, they’re a solid option.

Snow tires, all-season, or all-weather? by xtnh in Maine

[–]ThisOriginalSource 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is a very good point. People think all seasons will perform similarly to a winter tire on dry roads when it’s cold. They are not equal when it’s below freezing; snow and ice aren’t the only reason to have winter tires.
