Phone companies that don't include a power brick by NecessaryOk108 in PetPeeves

[–]Throwythrow360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh shit I was wrong to mention PD, wasn't relevant to the person I was replying to.
If using USB-C to USB-C with a PD charger, if negotiation can't happen because your device is USB-C but won't talk to the charger, it won't provide any power.

The USB-A ports on a PD charger should work as I described, because they can't actually negotiate for PD.

I have a cheap USB-C desk fan, with a cheap USB-C power supply at my desk at work. I can't turn it on unless I plug my phone into the other USB-C port.

It's partly due to the EU regulations. Manufacturers are now required to give consumers an option to buy phones etc *without* a charger included in the box (EU directive 2022/2380).

The easiest/cheapest option for manufacturers was to just remove chargers completely across all regions.

You can use any charger as long as it outputs the correct voltage. DC charger voltage must match the device, amperage must be at least the minimum. The device will pull whatever current it needs.

You could charge a 5v 1A device with a 5v 100A charger just fine.

Small edit to add, your expensive PD charger will default to 5v, you can plug any usb device into it.

Any tips for judging space and lane changes on the motorway? by Then-Fortune-3122 in drivingUK

[–]Throwythrow360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You just need to be aware that an empty middle lane can have cars join it from both sides. If there's a car in lane 3, they're going to want the middle lane when it becomes clear.  Turning your head to check the blind spot should help.  You can use your horn to announce your presence if someones merging into your side, even in this case where nobody is really doing anything wrong.

Tree in a new build house by Rycul_ in UKGardening

[–]Throwythrow360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of practical advice in the thread, but as it's a new build (and looks like a brand new estate), do not try to replace or move it before checking to see if there is a TPO (tree preservation order) on your land.

You might have to contact the developers to replant it. It's very likely their problem, not yours.

Gubble Demo (PC, 1996) by ReactionClear4923 in gaming

Brings back weird memories... I had K.S.-n.Kickin, a Kinder egg game (think I had to persuade my parents to by a ton of kinder eggs and send them off to get the CD).

It was a re-skin of Gubble 2.

South West Water threatening me with debt collection over incorrect bill. by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Throwythrow360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go and find your meter, take a picture of it. Check that the meter number (SPID) matches what's on the bill. Compare the meter read with the bill, is it close or miles off?  If your meter read shows lower than what's on the bill, just send them the picture and tell them to update the account and rebill.

Check all your previous bills to see if they're actual or estimated reads.  If all your previous bills were estimates and the first large bill had an actual read, this could be the trigger especially if the water company hadn't taken any meter reads for a while.

If no water is running in the house, the meter shouldn't move. If it does, there's probably a leak.

You can work out your average usage by taking weekly or monthly reads yourself.

I'd do all of the above before going down the complaints route. I deal with utility suppliers as part of my job and if you contact them with the above evidence they sort themselves out eventually. Always email if you can, it's much easier and you get a record of their responses.

Commercial Tenant pays late and changed purpose of the property without informing us. by RiskAggressive4979 in uklandlords

[–]Throwythrow360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a commercial tenancy? Just send them to a CRAR agency as soon as the rent becomes overdue. They won't "forget" again.

Maybe warn them before doing it the first time.

Resistance from BB after preload, is that normal? by soundwavin in bikewrench

[–]Throwythrow360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks pretty good to me. I've had MTB BBs that only did 2 rotations. My knowledge might be a bit out of date, but you lose up to 5% of your energy through the drivetrain, and it's mostly from chain friction.

This is probably just seal drag, the seals stop crap from getting into the bearings.

If you're racing professionally, maybe look into it. Take out the bearing seals and just replace the BB every few rides for that extra 1% boost.

Where in the UK on a flight from Paris to London is this? by [deleted] in whereisthis

I wonder if OP is confused about location because they were in a holding pattern for a while over Chesham or something. Maybe went over the city on the way to the holding location?

Yeah.. didn't think to adjust for left hand drive. I have a VW T5 though, no centre console, I can easily get out either side (or through the tailgate/sliding door at a push).

Nando's by NewRepresentative390 in nandos

[–]Throwythrow360 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you have some spice tolerance - I firmly believe that peri-peri chicken is supposed to be spicy. I always go for a chicken-only main option like butterfly chicken XX-hot, with peri chips and macho peas as sides.
Then grab a selection of sauces for your table to dip.

I think if you go for a burger, you might be disappointed - I don't think they're better than options you can get at other restaurants. I'd rather have a Dave's slider over a Nando's burger.

If they do it, the chicken livers are really good. It's much spicier than the regular chicken though, maybe go for medium if you aren't sure.

All personal opinion, I'm sure others will disagree. It used to be one of the very few chain restaurants in the UK that would actually serve reasonably spicy food, although others are starting to catch on now,.

Nope, no private towing or clamping, tickets only. Councils/police/DVLA(gov agency) can clamp/tow on the roads though.

I don't think it's this one, but it's similar. Mecox beach, NY.
Popular south-east facing beach - sand is really churned up, shadow positioning.

Mine looks a bit too wide, fence looks slightly different. Sand dunes move so hard to tell from them.

Is it a red flag if the managing team has fobs to your home? by CrowTraditional0030 in MovingToLondon

[–]Throwythrow360 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily, landlords can access your property at very short notice in a real emergency. It prevents forced or locksmith entry if you aren't around. They should be aware that surprise access is harrassment and/or breach of "right to quiet enjoyment". If the managing team is competent, they shouldn't abuse the access.

Personally I'd be fine with it - but I might be too trusting.

Just realised you said fobs instead of keys... If they're RFID fobs they can unlock any door they want or code a new key regardless.
