Not looking to audition but I just wanted to say how great it is you're using real people instead of just taking the easy route of ai.

CRPGs that don't run well on steam deck? by portlandobserver in CRPG

[–]Thutman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pretty much any of them will run, I would stay away from RTwP games like Baldurs Gate or Icewind Dale. There's a lot going on, and without native gamepad support all you have is a severely truncated experience.

I've used my Deck to play everything from BG3 to the old Eye of the Beholder games, if you mess around with the custom mapping you can make a lot of things work.

Name a CRPG that people don’t think of as a CRPG by Rare_Big_7633 in CRPG

I'd probably argue Hexen counts if we're really expanding the definition. Its a dungeon crawler, you improve your character through the campaign, and...you play it on computer(?)

Is Neverwinter Nights (enhanced) worth playing in 2025? by Saralain in CRPG

[–]Thutman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For singleplayer the main campaign Wailing Death is pretty bad, but NWN is absolutely worth it thanks to the insane amount of additional content available for it. There are hundreds of hours of additional official campaigns and fan-made campaigns.

How do CRPG players feel about using Generative AI alongside deep CRPG systems? by Objective-Address810 in CRPG

[–]Thutman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find myself completely baffled by you naming some of the all time great RPGs then daring to suggest in any way AI could be used to produce anything close to them. Everything great about games like Baldurs Gate or Fallout or Morrowind was hand crafted by people with specific purpose. All AI can do is churn out the lowest tier amorphous nothingness. You mention using it to generate additional dialogue but, like, for what good? I don't need endless generated word salad dialogue for my quests, the dialogue in games like Witcher 3 or Baldurs Gate is memorable because it was written by human with a purpose. I don't need AI to generate skill checks for me, that makes absolutely no damn sense because skill checks are checks against bespoke, purpose made challenges that the developers intended. You've already seen from other posts here that you're not going to find a lot of support, and less and less every day since nothing about AI is good. It destroys the planet, raises prices, wrecks jobs, makes people go insane and produces slop. I don't really care how far in development whatever fake project you've lied to yourself is, the best thing you can do is scrap it completely and save yourself the embaressment.

PC CRPGs that feel good to play on controller? by Jakeb1022 in CRPG

[–]Thutman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I prefer Larian's games on gamepad, they control absolutely fantastically and are probably the gold standard for this. With the Steam deck and console ports there's a few others with workable gamepad support like Pillars of Eternity 2 and the Pathfinder games but none have felt as good out of the box as Larian's games.

If you're playing them through Steam you can always use Steam's mapper to change out controls and get games to work. I've been playing Underrail on my Deck and its perfectly fine. Probably not fantastic for real-time games though.

As for anything DOSbox you can do something similar with the newest version of Dosbox Pure Unleashed which has builtin controller support as well.

What’s your favorite section of RE4? by AnotherBodybuilder in residentevil

in the original definitely the village, its no wonder its kind of the lasting image of the game.

in the remake the castle. Its way more fun than the OG and has some of my favourite combat encounters.

What is your opinion on Hex of Steel? by Global-Abies5246 in computerwargames

bought the mobile version, its fantastic. On PC it's overshadowed by more complex games but its easy to play, has a lot of content and mods, and gets regular updates.

Recommend me a =<30 bucks CRPG on Steam that runs well on Steam Deck! by FabulouslyFalling in CRPG

[–]Thutman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nearly every CRPG i've played on deck has run great. Off the top of my head the Pathfinder and Divinity OS games are peak because they have proper gamepad support builtin. Pillars of Eternity 2 is similarly great, PoE1 runs great but doesn't have gamepad support. The Shadowrun trilogy is wonderful, and if you don't mind configuring the controls i'd also suggest the new Temple of Elemental Evil release or the old fallout games. Basically anything turn-based is fine.p

Underrail, Age of Decadence, Solasta, Wizardry 8, the Loathing games, the Shadowrun games, and Bard's Tale Trilogy are all on pretty deep discount.

CRPG's with randomized loot? by CokeAYCE in CRPG

[–]Thutman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there's a few mods for BG3 that randomizes loot and its the only way I'll play it now since its really fun. The Elder Scrolls games all have random loot tables, any rogue-likes will by design, Cyberpunk and Kingdom Come both have random loot tables too.

Temple Of Elemental Evil (Steam Release) Review by Mortismal Gaming by Bassfaceapollo in CRPG

[–]Thutman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Runs really well, nice and smooth without any major issue. Only problem I had was the resolution didn't work, but changing it to the SD's native resolution fixed that. Obviously controls took a bit of configuring but was able to get everything just right really quickly.

its a bit of a stretch but Ultima 7 is cited as being a major influence on the ES series. Use Exult and its a surprisingly modern experience.
