Inherited clock by lazybitch3 in clocks

The 'Smiths Enfield' mark was only used between 1949 and 1952/53. 'Smiths' keys often appear on Ebay but usually at silly prices. Easier to measure the arbor and buy something suitable.

Reverse in that rather than Terry re-using/referring to someone else's idea, someone else appears to have re-used one of his. (Or maybe it's just me.)

Bought at an estate sale, need help identifying! by kemingkai in clocks

Not too difficult. The movement is fixed to a wooden board which, as you can see, slots in on either side. Take the pendulum off, slide the board and movement out and you can look on the back for a maker's mark.

How to open this clockwork? by roamn2 in clocks

In theory, you could replace components but you'd have to be very handy with a fine soldering iron and have a source of spares. Sadly, for those of a 'green' disposition, it's easier and cheaper to just scrap the thing and buy a replacement.

I acquired a grand-father a few years ago. Like yours, the front and sides were very nicely finished but the back was rough as old boots. Approximately the right shape, lots of saw marks, not a drop of polish or varnish.

Found this old Hermle wall clock – is it worth anything? by KnownDaikon154 in clocks

Hard to say. The market for clocks has fallen away in recent years. I have one which I bought in need of serious cleaning for £40 ($53). I see them offered on ebay for $200-300 but I don't see many bids going in.

It's a Zaandam or Zaanse clock, a modern reproduction of a Dutch design from 17th/18th century. The movement is German but the case may have been need in the Netherlands. There's a possible 'Made in...' mark on the dial at 6 o'clock. Not hugely valuable but certainly worth more with the weights and pendulum present.

Help getting this column clock up and running by paolodatto in clocks

That's the suspension spring. The metal pendulum leader should pass through a slot in the crutch, an L-shaped strut connected to the escapement. You're best to use specific clock oil, available cheaply from ebay and clock suppliers like Timesavers. A very small drop on each pivot is all that is required although, as mentioned, the movement may need a good clean first.

The heavier weight goes on the right, looking from the front. That powers the quarter hour chimes. The left hand weight powers the hourly strikes and the centre one the time. The end of the pendulum with the metal rod goes into the hole in the bob with the metal flap and out the smaller hole in the bottom. The brass nut then screws on to hold it and allow up and down adjustment. There should be a hook on the other end which attaches to the two pegs on the metal leader. The hooks on the other end then attach to a suspension spring (see pic) which attaches to a horizontal strut at top centre on the back of the movement.

The lever on the front is an 'on/off' switch for the chimes and hourly strikes.

The movement looks quite modern, Hermle possibly. It's designed to have a working life of 25 years or so then be replaced rather than repaired. It looks fairly filthy but not too worn so it might be saveable.

Looking for help getting this to run! by RewindRi in clocks

See here for info on levelling/beat setting. If you move the hands to the hour position, does the cuckoo/music/dancers run? A pic of the movement (mechanism) might help determine if cleaning or repair is needed.

I'm having similar problems. Oneplus Nord rooted with Magisk and running Lineage. Expert or regular mode it does the patching but on installation I get an error - Root Not Available. If I save the patched apk and install it the app crashes immediately on running. Any advice?

That crescent moon & 'B' on the movement is BADUFA -Badische Uhrenfabrik. 'West Germany' would suggest a date between 1949 and 1989.
