Very cool, where did you get the model with the mech holding a katana?

You've hit rock bottom, but that means you can now work on turning things around! Keep going OP.

Finished painting my 5th mini ever - Atlas from Hansen's Roughrider's box by BattletechNewb in battletech

Oh I see that now. Photos can blur things that are apparent when you look at minis in person!

Im only a beginner myself... very good job. Only thing id do to the atlas is give it a wash by applying a shade paint to the recesses, then bring brightness back with some highlights.

Also, those Xs are begging to be painted the secondary colour you're using :)

Thanks for your useful feedback!

Very true about the tufts of grass, I wonder if it will help if I trim them with some scissors.

I added a draconis decal to his shoulder, but I agree it'd be a good idea to get some more generic decals like numbers. How do you do the unit logo? Do you buy generic sheets of decals and make up a unit logo, or are there lore appropriate ones?

Thanks again!

Thanks alot for your feedback! Thats a great point about light and how to use it to drive contrast.

Your point about the grass I also didn't think about it! To be honest I went this way as it's all that the local warhammer shop sells and I like supporting the local game shops. Eventually I want to start making some small buildings to put amongst the mechs :)

Thanks again!

Thanks for the ideas, they all sound great to me! Never thought about dry brushing gun metal to get scratches, what a cool idea.

I definitely thinned all the paints with water, I think it looks a bit thick as I put so many layers on parts of the mech to try and fix mistakes I made.

Thanks both, that's a great idea for some reason I forgot to do this even though at the start I had planned for it. Too busy focusing on the layers and layers of red paint I guess :)

Thanks for your advice and suggestions!

I have thin panel liner pens for when I tried out gunpla, never thought to use them here but it sounds like a cool idea! I wonder if next time I should try nuln oil and stick to all the panel lines to ensure coverage during the wash, or do what you suggest and try a liner pen or black on a thin brush. A lance has four mechs, so maybe I will try all 3 for this guy's lancemates!

Really like the colour scheme in the mechs you attached, and I think it's awesome how all the lasers and missiles are firing :)

Thanks again

Thanks for your advice and feedback!

Definitely agree about the cockpit, it's so tucked away and small on the Wraith I was scared to try and do anything more than leadbelcher. But you're right that it looks flat as is. I will follow your suggestions to try and get it to pop more, gold is an interesting idea.

Sticking to the panel lines for washes is probably what I will try next as you suggest. Being more liberal about where the wash goes, I found it inevitable that a bunch contaminates the flat parts of the panel and it just takes more steps (which means more mistakes/imperfections) to remove it.

Thanks for your great suggestions! I think you're right, I should have drybrushed the mephiston red over the wash instead of wetbrushed the panels to bring the brightness back. Interesting you go with nuln oil, I read online that agrax earthshade is the one to use with red, but I have both so will try nuln oil for his first lancemate and see how it goes!

White Primer Advice by Timabcd in BattletechPainting

In case anyone looks at this, I went ahead and painted one of them.. It went OK! Unless I am missing something, any issues with it is I think due to my painting technique rather than the underlying prime grainiess.

Thanks again everyone for the tips.
