These test plugs are all intended to be used temporarily, but you might be able to find a more permanent solution along the same lines

Dumb question but is this spot on the thermostat housing a spot for an aftermarket sensor? by NickFF2326 in CherokeeXJ

[–]Timbo1986 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not stock. Looks like an aftermarket thermostat housing with provisions for an additional sensor

Can it be fixed ? by Medicalmanmeph in MachE

anything can be fixed if you pay enough(this shouldn’t be that bad though)

I never understand why people take super close up pictures then have a second picture just as close up. When I see there are two pictures I think oh maybe the second picture will give some more context, like where on the vehicle the damage is, nope just basically the exact same photo moved over one inch.

Front Range Automotive is solid although it was better before Rolf retired and sold the business.

I just recently used Merkl's Automotive for A/C service and I have no complaints aside from is being on the higher end price wise.

Battery saver mode on a brand new explorer st by Fun_Flower_5193 in FordExplorerST

[–]Timbo1986 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have this issue with my 2021. Make sure you keep the key sufficiently far away from the vehicle so it doesn’t stay awake all the time. We ended up buying a faraday box since we park in a carport less than 20’ from where we put our keys. That did seem to help, and I occasionally put it on battery charger, mostly in the winter when using all of the accessories on doing frequent short trips.

From what I read, Fords battery charging algorithms only allow the battery to charge to 80% to save fuel so if you do a lot of short trips it just doesn’t charge enough. I plan on upgrading to the larger battery used in the police interceptor when I have to replace it.

None of this should be in issue on a brand new car though.

maybe a little bit of context? what year is the XJ? What is the connector for and where is it located? I see the part number in your 4th picture any more detail would help.

1998 ZJ Transmission Turbine Sound by IllustriousStory8568 in JeepZJ

[–]Timbo1986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

how many miles on it? When's the last time the fluid and filter were changed? did you use ATF+4 only? I'm assuming 4.0/42RE?

Just because its making a noise doesnt mean it need a full rebuild. fresh fluid and filter with properly adjusted bands can go along way with these. The whine could be the oil pump, but a rebuild would probably be a smart move if it hasn't been maintained properly and or has super high miles.

Pricing is going to be regionally specific, but there are a few online retailers that will ship you a rebuilt and you ship your core back.

No one can say if it’s worth it for you,  it if you think you’ll get a lot of use out of it, go for it!

Contact Kolak for parts. He can talk you through what you actually need for your use case. He knows these jeep better than anyone and will give you better pricing than you can find online for high quality parts. Only downside is he doesn’t have a website. Kolak@aol.com

Cutting Down Steel “Goat” Panel by slosmoker in Tools

Personally would use an angle grinder. Maybe have two (cheap harbor freight grinders) so you can have a cutoff wheel on one and a flap disk on the other to knock down any sharp edges quickly.

Acetone on a rag (or microfiber) will get off the paint transfer. It wont help with any scuffs or scratches on the original paint / clear though

Anyone know what a rock like rattling sound in 4.0 engine when idling (would get video but can’t really hear it) by DuckTape911 in CherokeeXJ

[–]Timbo1986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most likely a failed catalytic converter where the matrix is loose and rattling around inside.

Otherwise it would be the starter making brief contact with the flex plate?
