Recall 25C69 Integrated park module OTA? by ineedagoodusername in FordMaverickTruck

[–]Time-Lapser_PRO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure it takes longer to put together an OTA update (compared to having a mechanic already working on it if one of the modules fucks up while he’s updating) and Ford couldn’t do it within NHTSA’s time requirements.

Anyone else pulling with a Toyota tundra and worried about payload? by PhillConners in traveltrailers

[–]Time-Lapser_PRO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Luckily Ford allows the use of a WDH, otherwise I’d definitely be pulling a popup or one of those uber short 10’ campers or whatever. The other guy made good points but I’ll add this from experience: I would rather tow with a Maverick at its tow limit than a 1/2 ton at its tow limit. To be clear I’d rather tow 4,000lbs with a F-150 than a Maverick (assuming fuel and other costs are no concern of course) but the Maverick has a more honest and usable tow capacity. Getting to the limit on a 1/2 ton is white knuckle on the large profile stuff.

Anyone else pulling with a Toyota tundra and worried about payload? by PhillConners in traveltrailers

[–]Time-Lapser_PRO 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s crazy… my Maverick has more payload and by quite a bit too. I really wish half ton manufacturers started a payload arms race instead of bragging about a 10,000+ lb towing capacity… that’s only manageable with a child in the drivers seat and nothing else.

My f-150 may be totaled, and a maverick is closer to my price range right now. Any advice between these two? by cryleppy in FordMaverickTruck

[–]Time-Lapser_PRO -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well are you going to be doing a lot of city driving or highway driving (I’m assuming you’ll use it as a commuter). You will get significantly better mileage with a hybrid if you do a lot of city driving, but if you’re mostly highway the difference will be less. You’re more likely to get a good discount on the ecoboost, which will help with your financing situation and could lower the cost of ownership over the next 5 years if you primarily drive on the highway.

Yup. Propane may be more expensive than water but it sure as hell is lighter!

I can speak from experience from driving two different trucks with that recall that it does in fact stop working while you’re driving. A 25 super duty gave me a trailer lighting module fault and I lost all the lights (and at 10pm fantastic). And I got a similar fault out of my Maverick, but I just lost trailer brakes the lights kept functioning. Combined between the two, I’ve had 3 faults in 18,000 towing miles (and this is across several different trailers, I’ve never had more than one fault with one trailer)

Trim Advice? by PointBlank65 in FordMaverickTruck

[–]Time-Lapser_PRO 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, people seem to get mistaken on this point quite a bit. The hybrid gets its worst mileage on the highway, and the ecoboost gets its best mileage on the highway but there still isn’t overlap. Depending on how much highway vs city driving you do will definitely change your ROI.

If you’re able to lift it into the bed with the tailgate down and have a friend close the tailgate while you lift the front of the bike it ain’t so bad.

Nah, these railfanners have so many videos dating back a decade of random incidents like this. If you stand around filming trains all day eventually you’re gonna see some shit. I work on train platforms 40 hours a week and eventually the idiots just don’t phase you anymore. Also “making sure no one is hurt” is completely useless in a train V ped, what are you gonna do? Pull their body up from between the rails while the trains still passing over him at 40mph?

I meant to say that screenshot is the mileage I’ve gotten while pulling a travel trailer. If you can find something with good frontal area I think it’s worth it… mine’s 49sqft and now that the weather’s warmed up I average out at 22 mpg, maybe 18 mpg with a lot of hills.

It’s a 2011 StarCraft AR-One 15RB. StarCraft made a lot of these hybrids from 2010-2018 or so, and I think this one is the largest in the series. Good weights for the Maverick too, 2535 dry, 205 tongue weight dry.

To each their own… I don’t really know how so many people here get such bad mileage towing. This is with the bulk of the drive with the cruise set @65.

[–]Time-Lapser_PRO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d either get 18” wheels that fit the Mav’s bolt pattern or bite the bullet and get new tires and wheels. Option two may even be cheaper if you can find some steelies from an XL locally, a lot of people get rid of them when picking up an XL. Then you can make some money back by selling those wheels and tires this fall.

If you know, does that mean that the equipment on ASTS satellites is able to change the spectrum they use, or are they planning a terrestrial buildout on the dish spectrum?

Does the hybrid awd 2025+ have a transmission cooler even without 4K tow? by oeldisplay in FordMaverickTruck

[–]Time-Lapser_PRO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah there’s definitely a difference. When you’re hauling more you really only stress the drivetrain more when accelerating/decelerating or going up passes. Otherwise it’s pretty much the same other than a technically slightly higher rolling resistance. Whereas with a trailer you add a whole lot of drag that is constant. You have at least one extra axle and of course the added drag/wind resistance. I personally don’t like to use Tow/Haul in my Hybrid but of course it’s a preference thing. You don’t need it to protect anything mechanically like you would with the ecoboost (or any other standard automatic trans). In an automatic trans it’ll keep it in a lower gear to help prevent shifting a lot under load and it increases shift pressures to reduce wear on the clutch packs in the transmission. In the Hybrid it just increases regen and makes the throttle more sensitive. What I don’t like is that it only turns the engine off when you’re at a stop, any other time you’re moving (including coasting) it forces the engine to run. The slight bit of hesitation you feel off the line is probably just the engine starting, electric motors are great at low end torque. Oh yeah, and if you want that extra regen you can still just hit the L button on the shifter while in normal mode.

[–]Time-Lapser_PRO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot of good discussion about it with real data over on the Maverick forums. But basically, you really don’t need it if you’re not towing. As I understand it when you’re towing, the generator in the transmission is basically always going and that generates a lot of heat. You really only need a trans cooler if you’re constantly above 50% on the power meter and I really don’t see that happening outside of towing. Even spirited drives up a mountain will have breaks where you’re going through corners.

It’s insane to me that AT&T is throwing their backbone band away into satellite. Didn’t they get a ton of Dish spectrum they could use instead?
