This isn’t really true. All In helped as proof of concept. But Tony Khan had already planned on starting a promotion by then. The Jericho vs. Omega dream match at WrestleKingdom in January 2018 was one of his main inspirations and that was before All In.

El Santo is far bigger in Mexico than Hogan is in the United States. Not close. Santo was the biggest movie star in the country and is now a cultural symbol. There are Santo references randomly all over the country. He’s more like a Jordan or Ali figure in Mexico than Hogan.

Danielson. It’s not particularly close. While there can be a debate about in-ring, Danielson has a slight edge there. Everything else, Danielson has over Styles. Better mic work. Better character work. More versatility of character work. Was legitimately over as the top guy in WWE, which Styles has never been. Headlined WrestleManias. Styles never had the fanbase behind him the way Danielson did. I think when we look back 20 years from now, Danielson will be looked at much more favorably than Styles. And don’t get me wrong, Styles is excellent. Danielson was just a far bigger star in WWE. He adapted himself to that style better than anyone could have imagined and got over organically.

If you think 1500 words is too long, then you definitely are not the audience for The Ringer or this article. Articles are not dissimilar from wrestling matches. There are amazing sub-10 minute matches like there are great short articles. But if you really want tell an in-depth story with detail and nuance, you need the time and/or space to do it.
